Had the same issue: Headlights/dash lights would go off when in auto mode and turning left indicators on, broken grey wire. No need to pull entire column apart. Separate top column shroud by griping by the two stalk openings and pull up. The concertina material is held on under the instrument cluster by 4 clips, It isn't necessary to release these, just prop the top shroud up with something. If you feel you must, the bottom shroud is held on by three screw from underneath. The back of the indicator stalk pops off with a little effort. Look behind and in the right angle bend at the base of the stalk there is a 1 x 1 mm "hook" holding the back of the stalk on. Work this until it releases (sorry, no real hints on a nifty way to do it, I just worked it until it released). This will expose the wires in the stalk up to the point they disappear behind the ignition switch. Hopefully your break will be visible somewhere here. Solder in a 2 cm piece of suitable gauge wire, shrink wrap and reassemble. Mine had broken about 2cm from the ignition switch so was a PITA to solder and shrink wrap without burning/melting anything else, but eventually got it done with the help of an ex techie. Hopefully this will help you get yours fixed.

Can a BA Sat Nav system be fitted to a BF (obviously with colour ICC)?? (BF with Climate control premium sound, not originally factory fitted with SatNav) Apart from High series loom which would be supplied, the system box, remote and mounting bracket, what else is needed?? Do you need to fiddle with BCM at all?? Thanks.

Might be high as a number, but consider that a 747 holds 400+ people = 3l/100km/passenger. Compare this to a Falcon around town at a nominal 12l/100km with 4 people on board = 3l/100km/passenger. Oddly enough............the same number!! So equally as efficient!! Or inefficient as you may see it.

Early BA's had a factory installed low speed steering shudder. Ford TSB fix was to bleed system the first time customer complained, and replace hoses with stiffer ones the second time. Don't know how far down the BA I --> BF II line problem existed. My Nov '03 BA T had the issue and eventually had hoses replaced under warranty. My BF I doesn't have the issue.

I believe that the so-called "factory alarm" is a local dealer fit and are in fact after market alarms, and vary from dealer to dealer. I had a problem with my BA XR6-T where the alarm would go off after turning the car off for the first time each day. Local dealer wouldn't cover it under warranty claim and I had to take it back to original dealer as it was a "local fit". I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong. You may need to find out who the original dealer was to find out what brand/type it is and how to possibly fix it,

I don't want to hijack your thread, but was that rego "WYR-636". If so that was my old car... I'd seen it on Carsales again for about 3 months, then it dissappeared just after Xmas. I was wondering what he got for it.

May not be related but.......... Sometime ago I managed to bottom out my BA, and in doing so something caught the bracket that supports the rear of the transmission and pulled it back about a centimeter. Result was similar to what you are mentioning. Lots of vibration, etc which would go away on slight left hand turns. The damage was not easily visible and I had to get right under the car to notice it and even then I had to compare back to back with another Falcon to be sure. Repair cost was $400 for them to drop the bracket, pull the body bracket mounts straight and new transmission cradle/mount and bits. Not saying it's the same, but worth a look.

That BF has been for sale for since around the middle of January, so they are having trouble shifting it. I think they started at $43.5k. There are unfortunately very few BF T's for sale in South OZ at the moment, but I would have thought that in the next few months or so that more should start hitting the 2nd hand market. BA wise the market seems to hover at about 20 ~ 30 for sale at any one time. Just for your comparison I picked up one of the few 2nd hand BF's that I have found back in January for $36k. (Bionic, ZF 6speed, luxury pack, Nov '05, 20,000kms). That was from Jarvis Ford Norwood. I can thoroughly recommend the ZF box over the old 4 speed. And the Twin Climate control Luxury pack is worth trying to get over the Leather/premium/manual aircon combo. Good luck.

Does your copy have all the chapters? I have a BA one that is missing some chapters. I Wouldn't mind getting hold of a complete one that includes any BF differences.

Leather seats are Standard XR Series Leather known as "Warm charcoal, semi perforated". These are the ones that come with the Luxury Pack. Where were you a month ago when I let my identical (minus stripes) one go for $24.5k?? For comparison, it had 44,500kms, and hadn't been resprayed!!

I found that after a while you will get to know the gear that the transmission is in by the engine feel and RPM, but I did have over 3 years to get used to it. On the Highway, cruising at 110 (ish) in Drive, the auto will be in 4th. For overtaking, knocking it to the left (into PERF) will lock out 4th (until you get to "hand your license back speeds"), thus dropping it to 3rd which is more than ample for a rapid overtake in the 80km/h+ region. Around town, I used to cruise in D, and when I wanted a blast, knock it to the left = 3rd, then stab forward = 2nd, now we can play a bit. If I was bored, I'd drive fully manual, and keep a mental note of my gear as it won't change until you ask it, (you'll know if you hit the rev limiter in manual mode) unless you come to a complete stop. I never really used Perf that much in its own right. (The ZF, however, is a complete new ball game!) Give it time, you will come to know what gear your in as instinctively as a manual. The only thing I found with mine was sometimes I would ask it to down shift to 2nd and it wouldn't (dunno why) and would have to ask a second time (no, I wasn't going too fast!) . That I found annoying and disconcerting.

I thought that there was a small insert in the middle of the door trims as well (The bit that's behind the armrest/grab handle). About 15 inches by six (odd shape). Oh yeah & congrats on your purchase!! Let us all know how the mods go!!

BF II 2006 plated Fairmont Ghia's are being run out for under $42k. You can probably do better haggling hard.

All I can say is "you lucky, lucky bastard!!". My Oct 03, always went in for shudder, every service. After the third time I got new rotors under warranty as skimming them had left them under size. When I sold the car it had shudder creeping back in even though I now had the "super brake dust pads" from FORD!! Gotta say that the BF so far is soooooooo much better for brake feel and dust!!

Guess you've gotta ask yourself "Am I feeling lucky?". What's cheaper, a few $'s for a retune or a lot of $'s for an engine rebuild? You might be O.K, but are you going to sleep at nights?? Consider it to be insurance!
