Who Has Problems With Their Car?
It seems that most of the people that I have spoken with in regards to problems have all modified the car in some way. Has anyone out there got a standard (untouched) T and has had problems? Yep. My T is Totally Factory Stock. Had most tof what I consider the common major problems. 1. Loss of power on ovetaking (PCM Reflashed) 2. Juddery power steering at low speeds (not investigated yet) 3. Diff clunk (low speed) (not investigated yet) 4. Diff whine at 95km/h (not investigated yet) 5. Poor shift quality 2-->3 under specific circumstances (Dealer says "normal") 6. Paint peeling off intercooler (been painted twice) 7. Brake Shudder (been skimmmed once) 8. Windscreen noise (Fixed by dealer) That should do. No, problems are NOT caused soley by people modifying ther T's!!

Dealer Modifies Intake Snorkel?
OK, thanks. I didn't think that the opening was quite that wide before and can see the seration marks from short strokes on the vertical surface of the edge. Maybe just shows how (un)observant I am.

Dealer Modifies Intake Snorkel?
Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere before, but I recently had the 15,000 km service done (3 weeks back). Noticed today that the standard snorkel intake appears to have been trimmed back (fairly crudely) with a knife. WTF?? can someone either point me to the right thread or inform we what the hell??

P Platers: Ford Doesn't Want You In A T
Whoa!! By the time a pilot has transitioned to fast jets, ie F-111's or F/A-18's they have years of flying behind them, have flown with QFI's (Qualified Flying Instructors) in Dual seats, flown PC-9 turbo-props, flown Hawk lead-in trainers, and spent many hours in advanced flight simulators, debriefing ad nauseaum every liitle error in their performance. They have been trough ground school to understand the physiological problems of flying, understand the physical limitations of their aircraft and its handling envelope. Even then the for the first 1,000 hours or so solo they are barely hanging on to the aircraft as long as everything goes OK, let alone actuall getting ahead of it. We kill a fighter pilot in Australia about every five years. Considering that there are probably less than 100 front line fighter pilots that are current in the country, expand that to be proportional to the number of P-platers on the road and the P-platers are starting to look pretty competant!! You cannot compare the training a fast jet pilot has to the once around the block, she'll be right, go and buy yourself a 300kw monster that P-platers get Wow, got that off my chest!! Sorry!

SS vs XR6T
Only SS I've been up against was a VY Series II Ute. Rolling start out of a roundabout, and it was line ball. Considering his was a ute and thus lighter, against a stock VY SS Sedan, I'd expect my XR6_T sedan (stock) to nose in front, but there wouldn't be a lot in it.

PETROL FILL
Having voted "1/4 tank". I should amplify that this normally happens about once a week and I try to coincide it wth the "LOW" in fuel prices. Normally works out well.

Outsiders
Hmmmmmmmmm, it was combination of the styling of the BA as well as the Turbo that made me buy . So I haven't voted as I don't think that any of the answers are quite relevant. If they had stayed with the AU styling , even with the Turbo engine, I wouldn't have bought a Falcon.

How good is the premium Sounds anyone?
Again, that's gonna earn a few comments........... For me Premium Sound is good. I'm not an audiophile, but do like to be able to turn it up without distortion and be able to have fairly good bass. For the $900 or whatever they charge its probably over priced, but given the complexities of adding after market systems, may be the easier way to go. Depends on how much trouble you are happy to go to. Again, plenty of threads on this, try a Search.

Standard XR6T brakes

Road Carnage: A Reminder
Forgot to mention that it happened 07:30am 7 April 2004, They were on their way home from a family breakfast at McDonald's!! As to what happened, nobody's really sure, wife can't remember, wasn't looking at road at all before accident. Daughter has no idea either. Miracle that those two survived. Single vehicle crash. I now have funerals to go to. Don't think that it can't happen to you................

Road Carnage: A Reminder
Just for all you guys who are think that they are immortal........ (me included). Just a reminder what can happen when things go wrong at speed. A friend of mine and his 10 year old son were killed in this.... These two aren't just statistics to me... Take care over Easter.

Luxury Interior Package
Anyone know exactly what this pack includes? For example, will I get illuminated window switches? Sorry to butt in in the thread, however I feel I may be missing something here...... Luxury pack on a XR_6T is $4600 ish......... Leather (Standard) is $2,000 (ish) Premium Sound is $900 (ish) These add up to around $3,000 (ish). What are you getting for the extra $1500 (ish)?? Dual Zone Climate control for sure... Analog clock OK, Auto headlights OK, and custom colour "XR" on Seats , but these don't seem to make up the short fall... Hmmmmmmmmmmmm Can someone enlighten me??

B30 WDS Calibration
Teebone, The downshift thump and dodgy upshifts sound similar to my problems, can I just ask you if they're the same or similar to what you had??... The problem I have is predominately with the 2--3 and 3--2 shifts. The 3--2 downshift is definitely sharper than either the 4--3 or 2--1 downshift. And more importantly, the 2--3 upshift when shifting at about 60km/h manually on a partial throttle gives you a surge in the back (nearly a kick, but not as sharp). I have driven one other "T" and definitely does the 2--3 amd 3--2 shift better than mine. Thanks for any input......... :(

Wind Noise
Plenty of threads on this around........ Go see your dealer, they will remove and reseal windscreen, problem solvered. They know about this one

Got my new T!
That is what I thought. I have that, but it doesn't start until 120 km/h or over. I'd agree, I haven't seen anyone complain of windscreen noise less than 100 km/h (mine, b4 it was fixed started at a minimum of 105 km/h), and he's saying he gets the whistle at speeds less than 80km/h. I like the leak theory. :hiwelcome:

Accuracy Of Speedo
Bugger!! I think I just proved my original post wrong, didn't I.................?? Hmmm, back to basic Maths class for me, DOH!! Can we remove my ramblings??
-
Accuracy Of Speedo
It is actually the other way around to my knowledge. The smaller the tyre gets, the more it rotates at the same speed, thus your speedo will read higher as the tyres wear. Gotta disagree.......... However I'm happy to be proven wrong. I agree that as the diameter reduces that for any given speed that the tyres have to rotate more times to cover the same distance, that would be fine if the speed was governed by say a GPS controller that was totally removed from the mechanicals of the vehicle. However, the vehicle has to measure its speed refernce to itself, and the only way that it can do this is to measure something that rotates. Now, the vehicle also has no way of knowing the wear status of the tyres, thus has to ssume some constant. All it knows is that for x rotations or what ever widget is doing the speed sensing that those rotations = y km/h. Thus as the tyre wears, for the same amount of rotations the vehicle covers less distance, thus the speed, whilst indicating the same is actually dropping. Clear as mud??
-
Accuracy Of Speedo
Did a GPS check on my car when nearly new. Speedo over read by 3% at all speeds, considering that as the tyre wears, it will reduce it's rolling circumference by about 3% , I expect that on legal minima tyres that the speedo will be just about spot on.

Phase 1
Out of interest, How are people going regarding insurance on either Phase I or Phase II upgraded cars?? Are we keeping it quiet ??or not bothering with fully comprehensive. If this is covered elsewhere, please point me at it. Thanx

Speedo & Tacho - Falcon XR6 Vs Commodore SS?
You need another couple of options on your Poll: The XR6 instruments look better, but the SS are clearer, so no vote from me.
