Have You Driven A Ba V8?
I don't mind what the resale value is, as long as it is above 45%... because that's what my lease residual is... so I suppose 45% + GST = 49.5%... so if it stays 50% after 3 year, then I'll still come out of my lease happy. Mind you, the way it's going I can jack out of my lease in about 3 months and not lose anything... because the cars are still selling like crazy!!! NOT that I want to... I love my car...

Xr6t Convoy
mercturbo - that sucks bigtime. All I can say is everyone - go and listen to a new song by Two Up, called "Why Do I Try So Hard"... Triple J sort of thing... On the convoy thing - I've had three BA XR's lined up at the lights in Belconnen... Me in my Narooma XR6T, a friend in his Phantom NA XR6, and another guy in a Mercury XR6T... Funny thing was... there was a VT Clubsport sitting behind us.... needless to say he STAYED behind us, try as he might... I think that the NA XR6 would have beaten that clubbie to be honest... But we got some looks from people when all three of us nailed it from the lights...

Auto Gearbox
My friend's V8 Fairmont Ghia auto lost 1st, 2nd, and 4th the other day, completely. It has 12,000km on the clock, and had been getting worse over about 2 weeks. First it lost 4th gear, then it lost 2nd. Then when it couldn't pull itself outta bed in 1st he cracked the sh!ts and dropped it off to the dealer on the back of a towtruck...

Novated Lease.
I leased mine new, I do more than 25,000km a year. Best decision, because driving a new XR6T costs me the same in lease, running costs and insurance as my partner's 2 door 2000 Lancer.... *grin* God I love comparing the amounts and seeing her face when she realises that her 20k car costs pretty well the same as my 47k car... lol. Basically in a Novated lease you don't pay tax on the running costs, you ONLY pay the remnant FBT on the cost of the car, variable by # km you do a year. Highly recommended.

Driveline Shunt & Diff Clunks
If you seriously love manual, drive the manual. It's a little different to get used to, but it smooths out and if you drive smoothly then it's brilliant. On the other hand, however... the auto is also excellent for the turbo - it just goes and goes, and you still have a modicum of control. It's just not as involved... I mean, dancing through gears in a sequential-auto is just NOT THE SAME as playing hookey with a clutch pedal... Recently I'm finding myself driving 1-3-5 in my 6t manual...

*blinks in amazement* whoah dude... that is pretty darn quick! So tell us... what mods have you done to it? What was the ambient temp? humidity? Auto or manual?

Standard Brakes
Yep. My friend's BA Fairmont Ghia V8 has discs that are warped beyond repair, at 9500km.

Canberra XR Cruise & BBQ
I think a BBQ at the lake followed by a cruise SOMEWHERE (even if it's just up to Mt Ainslie for photos over canberra or something... You're right - the Bay is a fair drive there and back, and probably a bit much for some.

Canberra XR Cruise & BBQ
Falchoon - my turbo badge is definitely still there... Let's do an ACT and surrounds XR-T day! Perhaps do a Bay cruise and bbq or just photo shoots down by lake burley griffin... And BlueXR6T - Amen to that. When I first went up the clyde in my xr6t... my gawd. Out handled my celica, out grunted my friends VS clubbie... Only one word. YUM.

Noticed Plug Disconnected In Boot..
Just had a guy put a towbar on for me. One of the connectors is for the trailer-light connector (the straight line thing with the middle pin raised higher than the others, if you've got a trailer you'll know what I mean) The other is apparently for the (optional) reverse sensors, needs to be disconnected to take the bumper off etc. HTH.

Ecu Updates
Guys, Over on the right hand side at the top of that piccie you can see a white connector - this is an OBD-2 (On-Board-Diagnostics, Version 2) compliant D-connector... HOWEVER: When I try using any of the standard OBD-2 compliant protocols (go to www.obd2.com to find out more), it DOESN'T WORK! I have an adapter and software that interfaces fine with Lexus', BMW's, Merc's, Volvos, Mitsubishi, and some other Toyota's as well. But it doesn't work, and has never worked, on an Australian Holden, HSV, or ANY of the Falcon range... Supposedly OBD-2 is a "standard" in use since 1997, but I couldn't get an AU, (I, II, or III) working, now the BA doesn't work either. Anyone know anything about this? Anyone have some technical contacts who can find out for me just WHAT these cars talk? Also - in the EL I remember there was a "diagnostics mode" for the odometer - gives engine, trip etc info. Is there a similar function for the BA? cheers

Shuddering Engine?
Yesterday morning, driving to work at the speed limit. All of a sudden car starts shuddering, loses power, and when I pull over to the side of the road, it was idling at about 1600rpm - sounding like an old torrie XU1 with triple carbs and a wild cam... *whomp-whump-whomp-whump* I'm thinking... Petrol smell out the exhaust, means unburnt fuel, got to be either fuel system or ignition system... either way I'm boned, I'm in my suit 'n tie so roadside mechanics is outta the question... Called Ford Roadside and got a guy out there (mind you, he just turned up with a jerrycan of fuel, thinking from what the woman on the phone told him that I'd ran dry... ) within 20 minutes. He took one listen to the car, and said yep - it was the VCT actuator solenoid. he'd already picked up three BAs with exactly that problem, including 2 police cruisers. Indeed, getting it to the shop, the mechanic pulled the rockercover off and sure enough... a bit of grit had caused something to lock the cam timing to wide open... hence the "wild cam" sound! So they're cleaning it out, changing oil and filter etc for me, gave me a loan car for the evening, and I'll have it back this morning. BUT... still... it's a new car. I buy new cars so I don't have to get them fixed real often... but this is the 2nd time in 2 months I've had it pulled apart in the shop... Ahh well. Other than that... 6,000km on the clock, car is beautiful! I had to be without my car last week because some d*ckless pr*ck backed into the drivers door of my car, and I had to get it fixed... :( All I'll say about the experience is I _HATE_ AUIII hire cars... Although when it starts pissing rain, the whole concept of "hire car" and "exemption from tire damage" becomes a WHOLE lot more fun!!!

Exhaust
I want to change it so it sounds louder... but my "friendly" neighborhood Ford dealer has refused to honor the drivetrain warranty if I change the exhaust in any way. Yes, in ANY way. According to them I can't even change the freakin TIP without it being a "modification"... grr... Time to get another dealer I think...

Bluetooth Handsfree Car Kit
Just like betamax was a standard? or 802.11g? or CDWORM? Advisory only... companies try to jump the gun to get something out there, and end up having a hell of a lot of compatibility issues. Moral of story: Test the kit with your phone BEFORE you get it installed....

BA XR Seat Covers
Yeah, I want seat covers for my XR6T, that are good quality and have the same patterns as the normal seat (plexis blue in my case). I don't have side airbags, I just want some that look good!!!

Turbo Badges
Dagabond - is that photoshopped or have you actually debadge the thing? I was thinking of debadging mine too... except putting the tiny FPV badges under indicators, and nothing else...
