  1. Yeah, it's cause they have that built in cable. On the newer cars that use the USB port, you just plug in the new cable and it works exactly the same as using the 30-pin cable.
  2. I've been reading up more and it looks like on the older cars with the Ford iPod cable, you will lose the 'iPod Out' connectivity with the iPhone 5 when you use the connector adaptor. You'll still get audio but lose the ability to search through playlists, artists, etc. on the screen.
  3. I just saw this. Looks like they've lowered the speed limit then as it used to be 60...
  4. Well, ideally you'd want to go for something like an Aruba Controller and Access Point Super fast and reliable with 48 hour replacement for faulty access points but the controller is worth more than some of the cars on here, lol. I had an :oohwoah: moment when I saw the price for a fully optioned HP 5406 series chasis recently. Damn corporate networking is expensive, haha. On a serious note, there's 5 wireless networking standards, 'a', 'b', 'g', 'n' and most recently 'ac'. Basically each is faster than the last. You're probably familar with the first three, practically everything supports them for years and most things now support 'n' as well. If you want to get one with 'ac' to future proof, you'll pay a premium for it; it's only new and I can't think of a popular laptop/phone/anything off the top of my head that uses it yet. With technology, you basically get what you pay for. Spend $100 and you can't complain if it breaks in 12 months, but at the same time $1000 is overkill (or several tens of thousands if you wanted the Aruba and HP, hehe). This page is a year old, so some of the models have been superseded but it's a good guide to start researching with and has the consumer in mind rather than 'tech heads' who want performance, performance, performance. http://www.cnet.com.au/top-10-wireless-modemrouters-339288569.htm
  5. In relation to hard times financially (which is often a significant factor/influence in depression): I don't know how many of you are into economics and that stuff but I found it interesting to read yesterday that the RBA interest rate movements follow consumer confidence, they don't lead it. So, if people think the economy is crap then the RBA reacts to that and if their confidence improves then they react to that. The RBA is reactive and not proactive. It followed this same pattern for years and years, it's not just in the last few years or anything. When people say "Interest rates should have fallen 6 months ago" the reason they didn't is cause the RBA waits and reacts, they are cautious in their actions. So just because things are bad doesn't mean the RBA will cut, consumers have to actually believe things are bad for them to cut. If consumers think things are fine then the RBA won't move...
  6. In NSW at least, Teachers are quarantined (and have been as long as I can remember) from job losses/financing cuts. Their wages may be capped at 2.5% a year but they're secure in their jobs. However, the NSW government announced that they will cut 800 regional support staff (we haven't yet got info on the exact numbers from departments, we've just got emails saying they are deciding which positions will go from January) in the Department of Education which includes child behavioural/psychological/learning difficulties support staff, curriculm support plus others I don't know of and a small number of state corporate staff. Then there's I think 1200 to go from TAFE but that does include teachers unlike the schools. Obviously it's simply coincidence of course that this was announced only days after the council elections...
  7. What more do people want? It's already got a big sticker saying 'Not Petrol or Diesel' and its got a lock. They can't make it a different nozzle like LPG because it needs to fit the same hole as petrol cars. The woman, as she basically admitted, was just an idiot in a hurry who didn't pay attention.
  8. I've seen an unmarked G6ET. I know cause they'd pulled a guy over in a school zone of all things. Every highway patrol is either an SS or XR6T and I've seen a couple of unmarked F6 and R8 floating around. One I only spotted cause I saw it going in to a Police station and then spotted the antennas, otherwise I'd have never known. Only good thing about the unmarked ones is that they normally are in bright colours, not many people but green, orange or purple cars, lol.
  9. I have an FG MkII. When I plug the iPhone in via USB, it detects that the iPhone is connected and I get sound. The FG MkII comes standard with iPod integration so any cable I need should have been included when I bought the car? On the ICC it will say 'iPod Connected' and I can go through the songs, playlists, etc. only issue is it resets to 'A' every time you go to the list, lol. This is with the Apple Dock Connector to USB. As an aside, if you do need a Ford cable, they'd better be getting the new Lightning to USB fixed up pretty quick or you'll start getting a few antsy customers that their new iPhone/iPod doesn't work... I haven't been able to test the first issue yet as I'm in QLD at the moment. Dad took the car in for me with a letter detailing my issues while I'm away. I'll be testing it when I get back on Sunday so I'll post up the result of course.
  10. How do you reset the ECU? Or is it just unplug the battery for 10 mins?
  11. Thanks for your help in here Bionic. I have two issues. Firstly, there's the issue with caller ID not displaying (I think it's explained above) which you indicated would hopefully be fixed with a software update. They said they reflashed the firmware so hopefully that's resolved. The second issue is to do with the music playing through the ICC and changing to Bluetooth. This is the written description I gave them:
  12. I'm definitely in. I'll probably already be in Bathurst on Saturday morning though so I'll meet up when you get closer to Bathurst.
  13. Sounds good, but a weekend would be better. I don't work anywhere near The Hills. I travel to the Shire or north as far as the Harbour Bridge via M4 cause of the M2 roadworks and all the tolls. I've been to North Sydney maybe once in the last 12 months.
  14. Well, it's the genuine Apple one. I told him it should work with that one, there's an issue if it doesn't.
  15. Yeah. It seems weird that the iPhone 4 would work but it broke with the iPhone 4S and iOS 5. When I asked about the ICC issues, the service bloke said I must be using an aftermarket cable. I told him nope it's genuine and he got a bit stuck then. I guess the default "your a cheapskate its your Chinese cable's fault" is what they try off first go.
  16. I agree about the menu and the buttons. I think the duplication is there because they've slowly been changing from old fashioned buttons to touch interfaces. I imagine the next model will put more of the interaction on the touch screen and remove some of the buttons. I'm guessing that's actually cheaper having to do less cutting on the ICC plastic. What phone do you have? I have an iPhone 4 with iOS 5 and it has been playing up.
  17. Well, I was just told this morning that the iPhone 4 with iOS 5 does not display the caller ID due to a software incompatibility... Supposedly the iPhone 4S doesn't do the caller ID either. Hmmm....
  18. Happy Birthday PookeyMaster!

  19. I reckon we need to see some more of your cooking proficiency freeze. FF missus must be a lawyer or something, so uptight and everything.
  20. Saw that on Monday night. It was a pretty good movie, although some people might find it boring. So funny, "they will get bigger" when he puts his hand on her chest, lol.
  21. I always figured the two of you lived together FF.
  22. Lightning, surely you don't leave your key in the ignition when you fill up? So how will someone take off with the car? You're standing with the key, no different to someone stealing the key while the car is locked really.
  23. Either the Bosch injectors are the same brand as stock and easy to tune or they're a pain in the arse but I can't remember which, lol. Have you thought about going to Sydney and getting it all done at once? There's more competition so it's a bit cheaper and there's plenty of well known tuners
  24. I idle mine for 30sec to several minutes depending on how cold it is but I honestly don't see the point. On one colder morning recently, I got to the Homebush Bay Dr exit at the M4, a bit over 13km from my suburb Northmead and the temp gauge still hasn't hit its normal spot of just under half way. I keep below 2000 and normally aim for 1500rpm until it reaches that proper temp level but to idle the car long enough for it to reach that point would likely take an hour or more. Jet, which oils are semi synthetic? I take it Royal Purple and ULX, but which others? Is the oil Ford uses a full synthetic Bionic?
  25. I haven't found the menu confusing although I never used the previous models, it was all new to me. The timeout can be frustrating if you're trying to change things while driving, its not a problem when stopped though. As for the Reverse Camera, it seems fine to me but again, I never used the previous models. I also have the ICC issues, firstly that contact details don't show on the screen and second the iPod has issues if its left plugged in and you turn the car off and on again, it chucks a hissy and reverts to Bluetooth for the music. I haven't had any problems with the alarm, its working fine. What's the speed check for the cruise control? I find the font is fine, but again I never saw the old font. With the boot unlock button, you do know you need to press it twice to unlock the boot seperate to the doors? I'm yet to get HID's as well but I will be getting some in the future.
