  3. Just want to share an experience with you all. I'm in Sydney and we've had bucket loads of rain over the last few days so literally everything is drenched. Some roads have small lakes and running rivers across them and you can get lost in some of the new pot holes that have appeared. I got home last night and left my car in the driveway while I had dinner. My driveway slopes down towards the garage reasonably steeply. When I went to put it away, it started, I rolled about 2 metres and then it stalled. From this point I couldn't start it again. The engine turned over but no ignition. I figured I would try again in the morning after it dried out a bit. This morning, same thing. No ignition. I checked under the bonnet for any loose leads. I had about 30kms left on the fuel readout so I was low on fuel but not dangerously low. I spoke to my dealer who suggested they tow it to the nearest Ford dealership and I thought .. "You reckon ... I can't see how it will get out of my steep driveway backwards when I can't start the car or steer it for that matter". I was also thinking about what damage that might happen to it because I have heard some Tow Truck horror stories. I had about 2 litres of Unleaded in a can in the shed so I added that just in case and thought, even if it doesn't start, I'll race to the Servo and grab 5 litres of Hi-Octane. Well ...... it started !!! Looks like I had a fuel pickup problem because of the slope on the driveway and not quite enough fuel when it was on the flat surface of the garage. 30kms should be plenty to start a car so I figure the gauge is just too innacurate to rely on. Lesson learnt !!!
  4. Maybe I need to get a life but this is some of the best news I've seen for a while. I've owned my XR6T for almost 6 months now and although I love it, I am getting used to the power AND WANT MORE !!! With regard to poor bottom end, I think a lot has to do with the way you drive it. Can't speak for the auto guys but with the right amount of throttle and good work with the clutch, I really don't feel that it is slow off the mark at all. I will certainly be investigating this mod when it is available.
  5. Harvest Green is on the Ford website and appears lighter than Congo Green.

Over the last few days I have seen about 10 XR6s in my area of all colours ... about half of those were Turbos. No shortage in South Western Sydney.

But nothing a few bags of well placed cement won't fix

Someone suggested the utes didn't have it but I am not certain. Utes tend to get pretty sideways in the wet because of the lack of weight over the rear end.
  9. Hmmm ... interesting. Very clever.

Just on utes .... I reckon EVERYONE needs a ute. I traded my AU XLS ute for my Phantom BA XR6T and I miss not having a ute. If I had the cash, there would be a PHANTOM, probably XR8, ute sitting right beside my XR6T !! B) BTW ... Yesterday it rained in Sydney and on my way to work a guy in a black SS ute was trying to keep up with me everytime we took off from a set of lights or intersection. He was behind me sitting in my lane and with the lack of weight in the back of his ute, he was sideways everytime we took a turn. I pulled out about 10 car lengths everytime with my extra grip and I had a ball watching him fight his oversteer. I had a grin from ear to ear and give him a big thumbs up for his efforts. Good fun mate !!!

Mine hasn't faded but there is no doubt that it will probably never look as good as it did when new, no matter what the colour.

350+ Kilowatts. Serious manual gearbox and drivetrain and plenty of rubber STANDARD !! Also ... Dual exhausts seem to just ooze power.
  13. I usually drive the car out of the driveway and down the road virtually at an idle. This gives me about 60 seconds or so to warm up. Same thing as I get to my destination. I just slow down for a little bit. If I feel I've driven the car a little hard, I give it about 30 seconds on idle before I shut down the engine. I'm not too keen on getting a turbo timer.

The first time I hit the rev limiter, I shat. It felt like I'd jumped on the brakes !! lol

I have owned manuals all my life and really can't see what the problem is with the 5 speed. I believe it all depends on what you are used to and how you are used to driving. I prefer driving a manual car and wouldn't get an auto based on someone telling me the manual was no good. So in the end, you really have to test drive the manual yourself and not rely on someone elses opinion .... IMHO
  16. Handling is brilliant.

I've seen a few in Citric Acid. Saw a Turbo in Greenfield Park today. The colour is growing on me.
  18. I don't know whether it is my mind playing tricks but the car does seem to go better with traction control disabled. Now ... I get in the car, put on my seat belt, turn the ignition .. then disable traction control !! lol
  19. The sports is a few hundred less.
  20. Sorry to hear that Goose. Keep us informed mate !!
  21. This is my 3rd XR6. Had an EF and an EL. Both of them were beautiful cars but the XR6T blitzes them both. It still turns heads even though there are a few more on the road nowadays. Kev, The XR6T may not be as quick as the modded STi but I keep coming back to the beautiful balance you get between power and comfort. Also, I reckon you put 4 adults in an Sti and 4 adults is an XR6T and see which one pulls harder.
  22. This is the age old argument but one thing people don't mention about the manual is the clutch. As far as controlling the car is concerning, there is just as much skill involved with good gear changes as there is with good utilization of the clutch. I've said it before but personally, I don't feel you are driving the car completely unless you are doing manual gear changes no matter how good the auto is. There are numerous occasions when I will go from 4th back to 2nd and miss 3rd altogether. Another reason why it is the manual for me. my 2 cents + GST

My Phantom was a few hundred kms old when my wife took it to the Central Coast to drop the kids off at my mums. She rang me to say that she hit a bottle that fell off a NeverFail truck. You know ... the big water bottles. She said she couldn't avoid it. I had visions of a smashed spoiler but stayed very calm. When I saw it, it was only a mark which I was able to wipe off !! Luckily ... it was empty. Phew !!! Then .. a week later, a cat darted out from some bushes on a median strip !!! Ummmmmmmmm ... Sorry Kitty. He pushed in my spotty which was repaired at the first service.
