If I was you I would go with a single 12 or 10 inch, possibly a slimline if space is that much of an issue. (pioneer make a decent slimline). What sort of budget do you have? Already have any gear? What else do you want? Stock headunit?

I got hertz and they kick ass. I got the 6.5" splits stockxr, and just made spacers out of mdf or you can buy them to convert 5"x7" to 6.5".

Focal would be my pick over the Alpines, but I would pick Hertz over the Focal which I did, sounded better TO ME, I found the Focals tweeters were very harsh and over all lacked midbass. but everyone to their own tastes, try to listen to as many as you can. dont worry about rears...yet, you dont really notice them, their more for rear passangers, and the splits would respond alot better to a bit more power from an amp.

ive had it happen to me 3 times, but im not too sure its the floor mats. but now im alot more cautious and sh!t bricks when I take me foot of the pedal praying to god it doesnt stick.

Just whack one at the bottom like this. Car audio shop can do it for about $150 plus headunit (whatever you want to spend) and fascia (roughly $60-$80) cost, but I did mine myself and was pretty easy.

for general once over I used meguires ultimate quik interior detailer. spray on wipe off, use on any surface including the little screen

I am getting a bf mk11, but no not a turbo unfortunately. damn parents and threat of p plate laws. hahahaha ms700. I spoke to my uncle again today, and the way he knows is because recently they have had bf turbos comming in to be worked on, but the cars computers block them connecting to it. they had to ring ford and they told them to check if their was an extra sticker on the door. the three they have had this happen to, two were ex highway patrol, and one was ex ford exec, which had been used to loan to media when the bf was released. I have also seen another story with a guy who has a bf turbo from the east, whos car also used to be a media release car, who had this same story.

I have an uncle who owns a Expensive Daewoo service center, and another uncle who is dealer principle for a ford dealership. I have asked both of them this question before. holdens are apparently stock engine wise, but with better suspension and wider tyres. with the fords, like said before they have LSD, heavy duty suspension, bigger alternator, but some BF turbos come with a different tune from the factory, which can be identified by an extra sticker on the door. depending on state and department, these tunes are wiped before being sold to public while some are kept. this is usually the same case with the cars they realease to press.

mate that is a frustrating story. we had a star track courier truck reverse into my dads car and they denied it claiming that the job number had been issued to a van, but was bullsh!t because they had delivered 5 pallets of goods. it was quoted $3200 to fix. we had to go through so much crap, contacting police and lawyers, until finaly we managed to get security vision from the company we were parked outside, which shows THEIR TRUCK, reverse into the car, driver get out, look around, shrug his shoulders, and drive off. contacted the company with this info and straight away they accepted responsibility. bastards

ive just been through this whole thing. in the end I got a new headunit. I started off with a jvc four channel from work. I decided I didnt need/want the rears, so ran the high level straight from hu into the amp , running fronts on front channels and a sub off the rear channels. this was ok, but was still lacking, as only a cheaper amp. realiseing then that the four channel amp itself has preouts, I ran the fronts off the four channel bridged to two channels, then from the preouts to a mono. this was actualy quite good, plenty of power, but speakers were still stock so decided to change them with boston splits. this was pretty good. I then came across a 360.2 going for cheap, so bought that, and did it all properly. this at first did not sound as good as having the mono running from 4 channel preouts, but my mate came over and we tuned the 360 with his pocket pc thingy, using the bluetooth. this then sounded the best so far, I was fine with this until I hoped in my mates bf with a new headunit with a 4 channel alpine running the standard speakers, and a mono to the sub. plus it had bluetooth, and full speed ipod. I have been in three or four other cars with the 360, and I wasnt impressed at all. my advice to you. bite the bullet and get the new headunit (for what you pay for the 360 u could get a decent hu), if not, use the preouts on the four channel for the mono. and like Trough Lolly said, the rears are a waste. with the sub in the back, u can bearly notice them, even in a standard system using the menu selector I can bearly hear the difference. in any case I would recommend some decent front splits, these make a massive difference in quality, running them bridged off the four channel, leaving the rears for the hu, faded to the front.

well I am looking to add a sub and upgrade the standard system in my xr6. I have been looking into a few options like the 360, and aftermarket hu, but I like my screen and steering controls, and already have ipod aux so I dont need a new hu. me and my mate from work were looking at the amps out the back and I noticed that the jvc's had high level input, and a pre out. and apparently quite a few amps have preouts now. so what I was thinking was getting a 4 channel and running the speakers and using the preout to run a sub off a mono. I will get a pretty decent 4 channel as I am looking at upgrading speakers, so hopefully about 100+rms which would be good for some new splits. sorry for my noobiness but gotta learn somehow. advice, opinions and experience would be great. cheers
