I was quite despondent late in the second half. All the hooha about "We made the World Cup!" I thought , what a waste. The chance for Soccer to shine in Australia, and they once again, like many years ago, would fail to get a single point on the board. How many shots at goal were wide and half-hearted. Bresciano, Viduka, Kewel.... It just looked like we were simply not up to the grade. then on comes Cahill...... not a pretty goal; slammed between 2 dozen legs... But it got through. Then the Japs had a good attack run, and I thought it would get through to give them back the lead. The Ausies held on, and that second goal of Cahill's was an absolute gem. Reminded me of the old pinball machines, hitting the inside edge of the left upright, veering across behind the keeper hitting the right upright, before going over the line. Goal of the cup series so far. And Aloisi's intent with that 3rd goal was encouraging. That's how we should have attacked from the start. Guus is a legend. He took South Korea to the semi finals last time.... Can he do the the same for us? Bring it on. I liked what I saw in those final 6 minutes. C'mon Ausie C'mon, C'mon! C'mon Ausie C'mon!

Eagles (1st) vs Carlton (15th) Another "Come from BEHIND" win. I'm telling ya, don't bend over in front of them.... They like it like that.... They're GAY!
  3. Hard... That's what you want.. Don't want it limp, after all!
  4. There will always be a few diehards who want a V8. Heck, I was a loyal GM fanatic, looked at an SS ute, and jumped ship to a Ford 6 cylinder, It was a decision based on the the effective performance. Now if Ford brought out a supercharged (or turboed) 5.4 litre which put out 650Nm of factory grunt from 2000 to 5500, with a peak power of 400kW and outperformed supercars costing 3 times the price.... Then yes, I think a lot of people would consider it. My next vehicle WILL be a forced induction 8.... I would prefer it to be a factory installation (with a few mods) tom
  5. Can this switch thing be done for a manual to check the gearbox oil temp? ← Manual trans doesn't suffer the same oil temp increases as does an auto. Staging at the strip, holding 2800 rpm with a stall converter really brings the auto trans fluid to the boil if prolonged. Dumping the clutch in a manual does not have the same effect on trans oil temp. If you were circuit racing the manual boxed car, then maybe trans temp is desirable to monitor. At least to establish whether temps get excessive and there is a need for a trans cooler. I guess you'd have to drill and tap a suitable spot to fit a temp sensor...... Don't know whether its worth worrying about for a manual.... tom
  6. when you find out, let us all know. sorry, that's a bit harsh on a newbie.... AFR gauges are useful to provide feedback on how lean/rich your fuel mixture is. Power can be substantially increased by leaning the mixture off, up to a point, before excessive heat causes detonation and eventual engine failure. Running richer mixtures, safeguards against that possibility, but saps peak power and also consumes more fuel. When the car is dyno tuned, the tuner uses a good quality wide bandwidth lambda (AFR) sensor in the exhaust pipe, which provides accurate indication of the ratio of air to fuel in the mixture. The problem is, the AFR gauges sold to fit into the gauge pods for a cost-effective price, have narrow bandwidth sensors, and so provide very little useful info. When you floor it, it will show rich, when you back off, it will show lean. Just leds flashing on and off as the sensor signal output crosses the thresholds set for indicating rich or lean. These gauges don't have the resolution to provide the useful info of exactly what the ratio is.... just my opinion. tom
  7. tis true twas quite a while ago that a poet's words were planted as seed to sow... There was a short period of gestation, as germination of responses came from across this nation. But much has happened, over the past year.... New names come aboard... sadly others disappear. But there are many old crew, still around this site Who pray that they can still sling a bit of sh!te.. 'Cause there is no malice, not with any real intent... Just a few words of mirth, for entertainment. sixfan in the north, will surely take this bait.... Is he still blowing turbos in the no highway limit state? Lumpy also has his way with the word, but his greenie tendancies make some topics absurd. DBoss is illusional, thinking an XR8 is better... Everyone with sense, knows his logo is missing a letter. (T) Gooseman has reconciled his one-eyed rants.... He's now got the edit, and flying by the seat of his pants. Many of us hail, from different states and lands, many work with white shirts, and others in blue with their hands But the choice pick of jobs, that any members have written, would have to be GEEA, as the owner of KITTENs. This site is wealthy, with technical knowledge and data... Where else can you get an immediate response, when " Da T don't-a - start-a" We've also seen more tuners come on board, Sponsors help pay the bills for this website on the best Ausie Ford! From simple mods in the beginning, they've come quite far They've helped shape the T, as the best Ausie car... There's a rumour getting 'round, that we'll soon see new records, Quite a few more mods have been made to several turbo'd Fords So don't let it be said, you had no idea it was to be... Get to BIG VIC WEEKEND 2 and you WILL SEE ! tom
  8. Get an oil temp gauge..... Push your T hard and you'll be surprised how hot that oil gets... especially in summer. It's also a good idea to wait till the oil temp rises before pushing the motor hard. Water temp gauge is NOT indicative of engine oil temp, which is much more important for lubrication. If viscosity is too high (cold oil) then oil does flow properly. Also when oil is cold, and you push the motor hard, the oil pressure rises quite high and can blow oil seals. Certainly is a problem with older cars, anyway. Like I said, get an oil temp gauge, with electric sender unit. Then if you are really keen, get a second sender unit and fit it to your trans oil line to the oil cooler. Use a relay operated by a dash switch to switchover from monitoring engine oil temp and trans oil temp. tom
  9. It's called "Freedom of Choice" Not many people like to have exactly what their neighbour has. Most people I know like have some individuality.... That's why a lot of us here go to the extent of modifying our vehicles. model choice, vehicle colour and option lists go some of the way.... If Ferrari's were cheap, and there was one in every street, do you think they would still be as desirable? Manufacturers will introduce model variants according to what their marketing guru's anticipate will fill demographic groups. The more group overlap, the greater the potential number of sales for a given R&D cost. It's all about making the best return.
  10. Hey envy-t.... room sharings the go... vik351 has a special request to be with you by the way, Where is the Matt Flinders motel?
  11. fair trade, then?
  12. I swore I'd never buy another ford after many issues with a brand new XB GS Falcon..... got rid of it after 2 years. Had a string of the generals vehicles for next 20 years: HZ GTS 4-door, VC Commodore, VL and VR Calais...... Also bought a new '86 Supra which I had till last year... traded it on a Mazda 6 for the missus. 17 years of reliable motoring. Don't think that will happen again. Always flew the flag for the general, and bought my teenage dream car in 1997.... 1968 Corvette convertible. Red small block auto... In 2003, I was keen on Expensive Daewoo one tonner. At the showroom I was taken by the SS utes..... found them cramped in the cabin though, ( and the gen 111 had no low down grunt, not to mention there was a lot of problems with oil consumption issues) By chance I dropped in to check out all the media mag fuss with these XR6 turbos whilst trying to kill half an hour of time..... took a manual sedan for a blast up through Belair hills roads.... woohoo! Bought the XR6T ute within a week of that test drive. funny how you can change your justification parameters quite quickly. Wife said..... "What the did you buy that for!!!" "Cause the colour matched your beautiful eyes, darling!" no complaints after that. tom
  13. add me to the list please..... turbotom <- RACING
  14. Hey! Whadayamean, crappy Mitsubishi galant.... I had mine for several years, when all my mates had v8 monaros and falcons and chargers. I'd ring the living hell outa my mitsi.... On dirt roads and in the hills, they didn't keep up. alas, my mitsi met with a sudden end, as I was T-boned at an intersection by an EH holden. My galant was written off.... the EH didn't have a scratch! Got to agree though.... nothing comes close to the fun and freedom of bush bashing whether its 2 wheels or 4. Great for learning defensive driving/riding.. I gave up my bikes when it became impossible to get to any decent tracks nearby.... bloody greenies! Kuitpo and Kersbrook forrests used to be fantastic... especially in the winter wet ...
  15. first set of wheels..... A malvern star 3 speed (hand grip shift) bicycle which had optional mirrors (left and right) installed. I remember saving my shillings and pence to buy a battery operated horn. Had that bike for ages. As I progressed it had further mods, most to make it lighter. Lost the mirrors, the mudguards the lights etc ... In high school it was further modified to accomodate the school bag and sports bag.... tennis racquet/ hockey stick and other crap. I had a carrier installed on both the front and rear. (a two wheeled utility vehicle ) Then later on, with the psychodelic period of the later 60's and the movie Easy Rider.... I flicked the carriers, bought a candy apple red banana seat with a high profile "sissy" bar at the rear. I painted the bike gloss purple, the sissy bar was flurescent red/orange. The front forks were elongated, and I even traded my 3-sp handgrip shifter for "3-on-the-bar" stick shifter. WOO-HOO! Doing monos was a breeze by shifting weight at the rear of the seat, but sharp turning was impossible. At this stage I was also doing donuts out on the farm in the family EH wagon. Learning the art of "oppy" lock power slides on dirt roads. My first personal vehicle was a 1958 1.5 ton Morris Commercial truck. It had served its time on the farm, and dad had long since upgraded to a Nissan 1-tonner. It wasn't worth trading, so I secured it as my very own. It was originally a PMG service vehicle (That's pre telstra days) modified with steel tray and sides. Painted fire engine red, with big black guards. Had a p!ssy 4 cylinder petrol engine with 4 speed non-synchro box. It was so gutless, I would get overtaken by fully laden MTT buses of the time. I went to an eastern suburbs private school for my senior years, and used to cop no end of crap for being a wog, and living in the western suburbs. I'd park it in students car park, alongside beemers, jags, austin healys and MG's. All the rich kids had daddy's cars to take to school. I reckon I got more attention from the chicks in my Morrie, though .... I've got plenty of good stories about that morrie..... If I get p!ssed enough at big vic weekend 2, I can rant a bit more. Occasionally (when the Morrie was sick) I'd take the family HQ Kingswood (trusty 173 ci, with 3 on the tree). I bought a foam aircleaner for it, and would stick it on when I had the car. The induction drone made it sound like a race car... funny how little things make a huge difference to the perception of speed..... Later vehicles were Mitsubishi Galant (1500 4sp) XB GS Falcon (302 4sp) HZ GTS Monaro (308 auto) Suzuki TS250 trail Suzuki PE250 enduro Kawasaki KLX 250 enduro Honda XR500 enduro 1980 Honda Civic (1100?? 4sp (no first gear)) Mazda 323 sedan (1500 4sp) 86 Toyota Supra (3l 5sp) VL Calais (3l auto) VR Calais (3.8l auto) current vehicles.. 68 Corvette Convertible XR6T Ute (4.0l T auto) Mazda 6 luxo sport (2.3l 5sp) VC Late model camira Vacationer Oh, and a few road bikes..... (bicycles) Custom classic Moser red-framed racer (Campagnolo 12sp) Avanti Corsa Elite road bike (Shimano Ultegra 20 sp) Gees, that expended a bit of mental energy remembering that lot! tom
  16. All I'll say is that the auxillary lights (fog/driving) on the XR's are pretty useless. They are just cosmetic, in my opinion. Try driving with them on at night time ...without headlights.... the parking lights provide more illumination! Thought about replacing them with 100w spotties..., but the stock high beam penetration is good enough.
  17. 30000 km service is classified as Type A service, just like the 15000km service. It's a simple oil change and safety check. You guys should consider driving over to Adelaide for your service work.... You'll save hundreds! Even after paying for the fuel. $650 ??? Like I've said before.... SA was settled by free (honest) men, NOT convicts! (criminals)
  18. color wars ! PFFT! all you guys are BLUEPRINT wannabe's .....

Taxation Vexation At the end of the tax year the Tax Office sent an inspector to audit the books of a Synagogue. While he was checking the books he turned to the Rabbi and said "I notice you buy a lot of candles. What do you do with the candle drippings?" "Good question" noted the Rabbi." We save them up and send them back to the candle makers, and every now and then they send us a free box of candles." "Oh" replied the auditor, somewhat disappointed that his unusual question had a practical answer. But on he went, in his obnoxious way: "What about all these bread-wafer purchases? What do you do with the crumbs?" "Ah, yes" replied the Rabbi, realising that the inspector was trying to trap him with an unanswerable question. "We collect them and send them back to the manufactures, and every now and then they send us a free box of bread wafers." "I see" replied the auditor, thinking hard about how he could fluster the know-it-all Rabbi. "Well, Rabbi" he went on, "what do you do with all the leftover foreskins from the circumcisions you perform?" "Here, too, we do not waste" answered the Rabbi. "What we do is save all the foreskins and send them to the Tax Office, and about once a year they send us a complete pr1ck."
  22. you've missed my point. In these large barge arsed BA's (utes in particular) the hardest part is getting them going off the line. They are heavy. I have been led to believe, from many sources, that the BOSS V8 is an exceptionally good hi-tech motor, but it does NOT have the low-down grunt in the tradition of the muscle car era V8s. They rev well, but provide all their real thrills at higher rpm. The Chev LS1 is the same. It is the main reason I bought the XR6T, because it had the grunt I was looking for from down low. I modded to get more power, with the APS Ph 2 + APS IC. But it still did not deliver the low down grunt I wanted. The addition of the edit tune changed the character of the car completely.... not that it provided any more peak power, but it developed heaps more power earlier in the rev band. Torque increase was phenomenal! Now, DBoss states he got 12 rwkw more with the edit. My point is, it may only be 12 rwkw more in peak power, but if the edit tune has provided a greater amount of torque at the bottom end, through fuel and timing strategies, then the BOSS v8 will perform much better than the token 12 rwkw gain might indicate. Like I said.... let's not be caught up so much on peak rwkw..... As more feedback gets distributed from the guys who are getting the good times at the track, we'll get a better picture of what is ideal in the power/torque curve for best performance.... note: too much too early is not ideal either! Getting back on topic.... Edit for a V8... yes, its available. As always, it will depend on the experience of the tuner as to how much real benefit you will achieve. tom
  23. But your car has some other mods as well doesnt it? How much would an edit only XR8, or edit only GT produce at the wheels. For that matter what is a standard XR8 and GT at the wheels? I guess what I am getting at - the average XR6T gets between 50 and 50 rwkw from an edit. As Dboss said - he got 12. ← Aghhh! more debates about rwkw... Guys.... peak rwkw is one thing, increased torque spread over a wider rev band is another. Lots of guys are now running in excess of 300 rwkw. The biggest advances we'll see in ET's at the strip from now on will come (apart from driver ability and traction) in the way the torque is spread and delivered. Give me a car with a constant 700 nM from 2000 to 5000 rpm, rather than a car with a narrow power band of 5000 ~ 6000 rpm (even if it does have more peak power!) tom

woo hoo.... gotta love that duel between the 57 chevy and mustang fastback ... gees, how technology has advanced. I used to hang out at several "slot car" centres as a lad. There were quite a lot of centres set up in the suburbs.... usually a simple 8 lane figure 8 track for beginners, and a larger 8 laner with more twisty's and hairpins for the die-hards. Learnt very quickly about centre of gravity, weight loss and weight distribution, and the advantages of downforce. The quickest cars were low profiled wedge shaped blocks with sponge tyres going from one rear wheel arch to the other. They defied belief on how well they hung on to the track surface... That was awesome back then.... BUT these rc drifters.... they are in a totally different class. Looks like a lot of fun. Interesting to note that there are electronic aids to maintain stable control in drifting..... and there I was, thinking you young kids are really talented! tom
