Why Does Ford Have Different Versions

Featured Replies

Just a thought, why does Ford have different versions of their cars?

ie XR6 Turbo, XR6 N/A, Territory RWD, Territory AWD, Territory turbo...

I am assuming that they believe it would sell more cars that way... but...

if the XR6 only come out as a Turbo or as a N/A would people not buy it?

I think people would buy it anyways... same as the Territory AWD or RWD...

if it only come out as RWD the same amount of cars would still be sold wouldnt it?

absolutely not.

xr6s are bought as practical, reasonably economical sedans - lots of company cars. XR6Ts use heaps more fuel, and are more expensive to ensure. Companies would buy SV6s if all XR6s were turboed.

Similar for Territory - if they were RWD some people would buy Toyotas or Mitsubishi 4wds as they want a 'safer vehicle'.

There's a few reasons, and simply the answer is no, people wouldn't just buy it. Apart from the price difference, there's also some big insurance differences especially for people of different ages.

The difference between Territorys, well that's simply a matter of preference... not everyone wants an AWD to go offroad, and whats the point of selling an SUV without an AWD option?

Another reason is fuel consumption, safety etc etc. If the choice was reduced their overall sales would drop dramatically. Even the humble volkswagen had different models!

Maybe, just maybe...

Its to cater for as many people as possible, that have variety of budgets, needs versus wants etc etc. Pretty common sense question isn't it?

Ps - East Germany tried having all Trabants, and Russia - Ladas. They seem to have moved away from that idea.

Well that's what the Falcon, Futura, GHIA versions do.. that's fine... different budgets different needs...

But an XR6 is an XR6... If it only come out as T , people would still buy it...

agree with above

plus for some people want

with XR6's - the looks without the GO-GO...

terris - the room without the need for 4wding

like ktford for example needs the xploder since he his reproducing at a rapid rate :stirthepot:

I would not have bought an XR6T if it was not turbo just like a lot of people would not have bought an XR6 if it was just turbo.

The more models you have in your line up the greater chance you have of making a sale.

There is a massive difference in what people want in terms of luxury, performance and looks and ford cater for all of this.

I bit of a weird question really IMHO
