  1. I'm all for it. I did some sort of driver's defensive course and while it was a bit of a "shock tactic" strategy I still came away with a lot. In regards to your other comments I don't see why we shouldn't be peeved when the buck is constantly passed back onto the motorists, that was my only point, and not an unreasonable one considering the picture the stats paint. These are people's lives were talking about. Putting up cameras that penalise bad behaviour after the fact is not the answer. By their own admission it's the condition/layout of the roads. A recent article on theage.com.au ]]http://news.theage.com.au/breaking-news-national/raise-highway-spend-from-fuel-tax-nrma-20100103-lmq2.html] "
  2. Right... So your opinion overrides the findings of Government research now?? LOL In the time it took you to write that BRILLIANT comment you could've read the conclusions of the National Road Safety Strategy and seen in plain english that it states 50% of the deaths on our roads are directly attributable to the conditions of the roads.
  3. It's from the National Road Safety Strategy, an initiative started by the Howard Government with the support of the State Governments. It's a 10 year strategy aimed at reducing Australia's road tolls by 40%. A goal which cannot be achieved because the Government refuses to address the main killer on our roads... The roads themselves. National Road Safety Strategy Road Safety - Australian Automobile Association And from this link: How to Save Lives " By comparison with driver behaviour and vehicle safety, which are well understood, motorists’ concept of a safe road is barely developed. Motorists tend to think in terms of surface condition, pot holes and upkeep, and certainly not in terms of other features of a road, such as duplication (where opposing traffic flows are separated), sealed shoulders (as distinct from gravel shoulders) or trees too close to the road, all of which are shown by research to affect the safety of a road. Research underpinning Australia’s National Road Safety Strategy shows that nearly half of Australia's targeted improvement in road trauma can be achieved by upgrading Australia’s roads. Roads are more important in road safety than most people think." Actually I was comparing California with NSW. The roads of these two states are in different leagues. I guess it helps when America put 100% of their fuel tax straight back into road maintenance while our Government only puts back 25%. I got in a cab yesterday and the cabbie reckons he saw that Habberfield camera go off about 2-3 weeks ago. He didnt know why it went off since the light was green. God I hope he's wrong. *Sorry for multi-posting*
  4. Personally I want to but I dont know where to look. Ive done a drivers defensive course but that was more of a shock approach rather than learning skills.
  5. The Coles in Oately (Sydney) has some sort of electronic thing attached to all the trolleys so once you reach a certain point the wheels lock up completely.

The flash is usually 2 quick ones isnt it?? No way u could confuse it with a camera flash, its about 50 times brighter
  7. Nothing changes the fact that the Government themselves state that 50% of deaths are due to the roads. Its the media that's got us thinking we're always to blame. Just saw an article saying that only 25% of fuel tax goes back into road upkeep whereas in the States its 100% American roads sh*t on ours in everyway imaginable
  8. Either way most people dont usually get booked for doing under 10, at least in nsw.
  9. But you're WRONG. End of story. What little credibility YOU had in my eyes just got flushed down the toilet with that comment..
  10. Which is why 3 highly visible signs makes more sense than 1 small sign. Fear of losing one's licence is your best hope of slowing lunatics like that down. Happy new year everyone
  11. You're fine dont worry. I went past it a couple of days later, sat on the speed limit, and the guy next to me was doing at least 15 over, nothing.
  12. I heard they cant get them into the country?? sorry to hijack but you gotta check this out..
  13. Understood. Dont appreciate the insinuation that I'm liar that's all. Even if it is just a forum.
  14. Oh please what??? Yeah I come online and make stuff up to get a reaction from gronks like you!
  15. No it's not. 50% of national roads tolls are due to POOR ROADS. This is not a "theory" it's based on Government Research. As already mentioned the vast majority of roads deaths in Australia are due to the poor conditions of the roads. Why shouldn't we feel pissed off when the buck is always passed back onto us, the motorists??? Oh and by the way, we know the state Government install these cameras for money because they admit it! Their new "target" in fine revenue is $329 million which they will now be able to achieve thanks to the new cameras. If it WASN'T about revenue and really about safety, then why not install 3 highly visible signs prior to each intersection? What good is a fine in the mail after you've already run the red light?? Wake up and smell the coffee boys, this isn't Rocket Science..
  16. Yeah I shat my pants last week at the exact same intersection. Dont worry youre safe. But remember it MAY become a "speed" camera at any given time with this new "rotation" thing.
  17. Saw a green one cruising along Spit rd, Mosmon last Saturday night. You can spot the little lights mounted around the number plate, and the 3 different aerials mounted on the back window. Spotted a g6e Turbo in city other day with 2 detectives in it, was pretty surprising.
  18. Yeah the v6 plan got scrapped so the I6 is still on the agenda.. Merry Christmas everyone!
  19. Yes the roads minister tried to introduce mobile speed cameras earlier this year, ones that are hidden and I think rotated? He backed down mainly because of opposition from the NRMA. So they waited for a particularly bad weekend where there were 4-5 deaths in NSW on the roads then quickly introduced these instead. I guess by labeling them as 'Safety' cameras they can bypass the normal speed camera rule of having to have 3 signs shown prior. To make their point, they released graphics images to the media (taken by Red Light Cameras) that showed accidents occurring at intersections (Cars slamming into other cars and bicycles etc). What no one seemed to mention though was these images prove how inept the cameras are, since the vehicle at fault obviously saw the 'RED LIGHT CAMERA AHEAD' sign and still drove through!! I'm all for driver safety and lowering the road toll, which is why this sh*ts me so much. By the Government's own findings the majority of deaths on the roads are NOT due to negligent driving but because of the condition of the roads! This amounts to 50% of road deaths. Red light cameras/Speed cameras = Revenue... Fact! Based on their own conclusions reached in the national road safety strategy.
  20. I dont think it matters if youre under 25 or not does it? The restriction applies to anyone and everyone on their p's?? I know someone who got pulled over by an unmarked car because he was driving an Audi A3 turbo (or something like that), and he was able to get a letter from his work saying it was a company car. I think in his case the car was registered to the company, but he seemed to think the letter was enough. He was told he would have to keep the letter in the car in case he got pulled over in future.
  21. They're not all red light/speed cameras. The majority will be red light cameras only. There will be 4 that double up as speed cameras, these 4 the RTA will disclose. There will be another 5 that are rotated at 25 different interesections so you never know where they are. A lot of the ones that are announced for the CBD area don't exist so I guess they will roll them out over the coming months. It's a matter of time before they convert all of them to speed/red light cameras. Can't wait to vote against labor next election, they're way too concerned with getting our money rather than getting on with their jobs. Melbourne and Perth sh*t all over our roads in terms of quality and safety. They should be focused on providing roads that are on par with the rest of the developed world instead of figuring out ways to get their hands in our pockets.
  22. Is it bad to boot it with less than a quarter of a tank? Far out.. wish I knew that earlier.
  23. Exactly... Doesnt add up.
  24. I thought it was pretty suss too. How convenient that he happened to stop just "half a meter" from another car, avoiding a crash when he couldnt get it to stop at all until that point... please. Wonder if he got a nice discreet deposit in his account from Expensive Daewoo after the incident... Wouldnt put it past them.
