Wooden jack stands

Hey guys,

 

Crawling under the old car with normal jack stands scares the living daylight out of me even though I know its perfectly safe. 

I came across these wooden jack stands recently that look like jenga blocks online. 

Thinking to myself that they would be a good back for the car too fall onto in the far fetched case there was ever a failure.

Is this a stupid idea?

not stupid, just pointless as wood is definitely weaker but probably strong enough with the load spread out like that.

Stacked like that it'll be properly strong. Held up a shipping container like that a few years back with 6 stacks of them.

Still looks dodgy AF though, do not recommend.

I agree it's on the dodgy side.

It sure would keep the mind at ease when staring death in the face knowing they are there - just in case the normal stands were to fail!

If the pieces have locating pins/dowels in the ends it'd be OK, if not then forget about it

It's not the timber strength in question, it's stopping them from slipping apart/off, particularly the top ones

Looks like untreated softwood/pine etc?

 

Might be strong enough as is, but wouldn't want them getting much moisture in them?
