Anyone using Ross pistons in their xr6t?

Howdy guys,

Just curious if anyone here is using ross forgies in their xr6t?

After first hand experience with noise etc?

Due to them being a 2168 type forging and requiring more ptw clearance then 4032 pistons.. curious if there is any cold noise and if they get a little better once up to temp?

Was listening to a mates built barra with Ross slugs and u could hear them.

Rattly Ross's.
Yeah they rattle quite bad when cold. Once warm there fine.

Yeah very loud.. do you know what you recommended piston clearance was with them? I inquired with Ross and the recommended. 006" for small bore turbo applications....  sweet jesus that's some clearance.

Sorry to bring this thread up again but I've searched and searched. Currently in the middle of a build and have the STD size Ross Racing pistons. Skirt clearance is good and in spec but the crown clearance looks to be almost 1mm in the bore.. Is this normal?

talk to you the piston manufacturer to check on the spec, but 1mm seems way too big.

I tried and basically got a generic response saying they don't know about barra engines as they are an american based company

Yes the crown clearance is normal.

 

You don't measure a piston there.

Thanks Puff just double checking.. I know they expand but wow they are gonna be noisy when cold with that type of slop in the bore

Yeah they'll be noisy at start up.

 

When you're flogging the crap out of it, they'll be a perfect fit. That's what they're made for.

 

Just take it easy until operating temp so they don't scuff the bore.
