hmmm... that makes me think it's stuck in between gears or something like that, e.g. a gear selector fork has broken and is stuck between the rotating assembly... so you should have whatever amount of torque is being delivered from a half-selected gear assembly to the tailshaft, which may or may not be enough to move the vehicle... :idunno:

well that throws that hypothesis out of the water... lol

anyway... got any hypotheses on how a tailshaft could be spinning but you can't select gears and you get a crunching in park?

Cause its a half shaft.

 

Jack car up and check the two shafts that come out of the diff.

how does a half shaft explain gearbox crunching on park selection and lack of ability to select gears? It explains lack of drive and rear end crunching... :idunno:
