VCT/OCV questions

G’evening all

 

im just poking around my engine bay looking for vacuum leaks,I had this idea in my head disconnecting the vct solenoids whilst car is idling to see if it makes a difference

 

whilst the car is idling, I disconnected one at a time, and then both at the same time,didn’t make any difference to idle whatsoever

 

so my question is, disconnecting the OCV/VCT solenoids, should it affect timing at idle? Cause at the moment, seems like my VCT solenoids are doing squat (which then tells me it’s pulling timing at idle to about -9.14 deg which in turns causes a stupid misfire )

I'm not 100% sure, but I think that they are only really active when timing makes a difference, e.g. when there's significant load through the engine. Idle is not included in this.

I was under the impression that unless tuned the vct would only activate when the car is going over 100km/h.

This is what Brad at atomic says so I believe it, He reckons there is absolutely no benefit in keeping it in performance application.  Except every performance shop here in NZ swears by keeping it with performance gains to be had

Less than 99.99% of tuned cars fit that description.

Brb deleting my vct and setting my injector slopes the same for equal power
