finally someone has caught on.

 

BP sometimes goes on special when I have 230ml left in the tank, which usually means I am running on fumes.

The surge holds the rest. Once BP goes in and fills the tank, odds are that the next time Caltex is on special, is when I have half a tank of BP.

There goes my opportunity to check and see how many km's I get on a tank of BP only fuel. 

It is then that the 50/50 mix of both fuels allowed me to coin the term Caltex ultimate.

Use the fuel your user manual or tune states 

 

factory needs 95, run 95. Running 98 is a waste otherwise

Maybe someone has a log of what the pcm does to timing under full load if 95 is used?

Pretty sure the knock sensors detect the higher resistance to detonation 98 brings and change things (timing?) gradually accordingly over a long period of time.  I think all moderns cars do this to some degree?

Think the FG (MKII at least) has E10 suitable inside the fuel cap cover

The car pulls timing when it detects knock and returns it when it is no longer present.

 

What I meant from my comment is I wonder if it knocks on 95.

There is obviously enough fuel in it up top so that the extra oxygen in the fuel still keeps the afr safe.

Ah I'm with ya - if it's tuned from factory to utilise at most 95 RON then it won't gain anything more from 98...unless your "95" is a bit crappy and not actually 95, so you need to buy "98" to gain back the lost power

 

Not sure how pure most petrol outlets are in this country, are there any definitive tests around?  Probably not worth doing anyway as it varies from site to site and from batch to batch I imagine.
