I am one if the unfortunate ones to have driven on ramps in a slippery garage only to have one skid away which meant front right of the bumper took the brunt of it all!

I had sleepers that I'd driven into first to get the clearance for the ramps but it went bad so I got the circular saw it and cut a slot in each sleeper to fit into the ramps so I could then drive up on a nice angle without slippage or any other dangerous sh*t! I think they are 85 or 100mm thick sleepers which are dirt cheap!

I want a fcking hoist though now as I can't work in the car generally at all unless I have a great day which is rarely and by the time I've even jacked the fcker up I'm done...

Steve, that is the stuff I put under those yellow ramps that Luke referred to.

That did the trick to hold the ramps in place.

While we are on the subject of jacking off.....Where did you hoist owners get yours from? Any specific brand to go for or just go by load rating?

Ones that have proper tools, not ones they bought at Ikea, and a good garage set up. And painted cars.

I bought it from Clark rubber by the metre.

Just cut two pieces to fit under the ramps and you're away. It gets munted after a couple of uses but it's cheap and I still have some of the two metres I bought a couple of years back.

My wife did manage to spit them out the back of her Mondeo once. Got a bit heavy on the throttle when getting it to climb onto them and next minute, two yellow ramps skidding down the driveway !

Not so much an issue with rwd though.

I know this is an old thread, but it's relevant...

I'm thinking of purchasing a house (maybe building) and installing a hoist in a raised ceiling garage.

Anybody have preferences/experiences/knowledge to share?

I've been doing a fair bit of research on the topic from this thread and the links in it -> http://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/90433-carport-to-double-lockup-garage-reno/
