Only just saw this thread..

I've been a regular blood donor for 8 years now since my mates mum was diagnosed with Lukemia. Unfotunately it took her life back in 2005, and since then have donated whole blood every 3 months! (give or take a few).

Sorry no photo's though when donated on Monday

whats the restrictions Adie?

Haven't got any ink or piercings in a while and I've put on a few kg so that shouldn't be a worry, don't use needles either.

went to thailand a few months back and I have 8ppm lead in my system from work, dunno if they will knock me back for that.

Does that mean 2 per 10ml? how is it counted?

edit: just found its 150,000 to 400,000 per ml.

so your sister has 2000 per ml? sounds bad.

yeh. That low number occurred 2 days after a transfusion. its all just dying.

her bone marrow is dying, so her body is unable to produce any red cells, white cells, or platelets. the meds shes on are designed to jump start her bone marrow, but we wont know if its working for at least 3 months. Until then, shes getting blood and platelet transfusions 2-3 times a week.

If its not, its a bone marrow transfusion. Hence my blood test. I hope im a match if she needs it.

SHP - have a read through this: http://www.donateblood.com.au/faq
