Help Needed. Ba Mkii Audio Upgrade

Hey guys after your experience and recommendations

Have an 05 ba mk ii xr6t

I have a set of alpine type r 6.5 inch splits to go in the front.

Should I then go 6 or 6.5 inch splits in the rear?? or just 5x7's??

These will be run off a 4 channel jaycar amp giving them 100rms each speaker.

I have a 12inch alpine type r sub in a ported box which I will run off a soundstream monoblock amp.

Should I have this system running off an aftermarket head unit or the standard premium sound unit?

Screw the passengers mate and just leave the standard sh*t in the rear, it is only rear fill after all! The 12in sub will have them deaf anyway so who cares...lol

I am serious though, leave the rears as is.

As far as the HU goes an aftermarket is always prefered but it depends on a number of things but one being do you have the dollars for the actual HU! The effort of both is probably equal and the standard HU's can be modified to output RCA's but I have never heard one with them fitted, either way it would be better than tapping line convertors!!!

My preference is Aftermarket HU but I would use one of those thingy's that JB HiFi sell so I could use the steering wheel controls still as I dont and it is just a pain in the ass... These "thingy's" though have to be wired in and programmed to work so maybe someone else can shed some light on the hardness of this task?

I'd go HU, leave the rears but amp them, I have an alpine HU, 2 type r subs, alpine 1000wrms mono block and alpine 4ch. The std speakers amped sound fairly good IMO, I wouldn't mind getting some splits in the front though..

I put Nakamichi splits in front of my MKII. a Kicker 10" sub and kicker 6x9 300w in the rear parcel shelf. I made MDF spacer rings. Used the parcel shelf holes to mount the MDF rings and then mounted the 6x9's to the underside of the MDF rings.

If you paint the MDF matte black you cant see it and it sounds epic.

I wouldnt use more powerful speakers in the back, than you have in the front.

someone used the term 'rear fill'. that is correct.

you only need something so there is no 'hole' in the rear sound.

why?

go to a (good) venue to hear a band- close your eyes. where is the sound coming from?

that's the goal of a good sq (sound quality). to have a natural 'live' sound.

not to be cofused with a spl (sound pressure level) systems which just need to be as loud as possible.

get a good quality set of 2 way speakers for the back. good quality doesnt have to be expensive. id go with something like this:

so in the good old days when we used to put 6 x 9's or 7 x 10's in the rear parcel shelf, we impressed our mates because it was loud, but in reality the sq sucked.

if you want a killer loud system, that still sounds great, then put 2 sets of component speakers in the front doors (only use 1 tweeter though), using your 4 channel to power them, or even better, if your amp is 2 ohm stable, then only use 2 channels to power the 4 speakers. ask me how if your not sure of the wiring config to do this.

then use the factory amp to power the rear speakers, or just the heard unit (which should provide 25wrms or to each speaker).

mate that to a good 10 or 12 inch subwoofer in a properly sized box, and your system will rock.

brought my sub to a decent audio place here in melb and they cannot work out what size to make it for my 12inch alpine sub. I want it up in the backspace of the boot not overhanging the wheel wwell. and there saying theres not enough height to get 2 cubic ft in there. I think there using 18mm wood

Fibreglass it! I reckon there's enough room for 2ft³ :/
