Engine Management Upgrades

I have just purchased an XR6 Turbo sedan. I want to start my mods with the engine management system. I have researched both the Unichip and Chiptorque alternatives but am unsure of the pro's and con's of both.

Does anyone have either system and is it money well spent?

Welcome to the forum

As for your question, search through the Modifications & Workshop section for more info and discussion on this than you could read in an arvo as many here have gone for chips etc.

Chiptorque for me & I'm happy, go meet both companies in your area & decide who you're most comfortable with.

:smilielol: I have a UNICHIP in my T at the moment and it made good power initially, then the car began losing power (not the fault of the UNICHIP in any way), however the dealer who installed it didn't really want to know so I had to find another, and now all is fine.

When I lived in Queensland Chiptorque did work on a VL turbo I owned and did a fantastic job and I never had any problems with the car and it went like an exocet missile. I think both products are good, and both of the manufacturers will give all the tech support that they can. Finding a good and interested installer is the hard part. If I was doing it all again I would be asking for a written guarantee from the installing workshop, if their good at what they do they should have no problem with that

I think the ADR compliance that APS offer with the unichip is a big point, I don't know if Chiptoque do that?

That's why I chose APS, 8 sleeps to go!

Squinlan, here's a link an old topic for more info:

http://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/index.ph...t=0entry58497

It has some general info from dynosteve (RDS) and LOKII on the XEDE.

Also, you can go to the XEDE website for a bit more information, and download some sample software.... ref http://www.xede.com.au/

or check out the autospeed article at

http://www.autospeed.com/cms/A_1965/article.html

or

http://www.autospeed.com/cms/A_1545/article.html

As for Unichip, check out http://www.airpowersystems.com.au/falcon/unichip.htm

and

http://www.airpowersystems.com.au/unichip/...nichip_more.htm

Apart from these I could not find much else on the Unichip, even the home South african website.

As we've said many times stick with reputable tuners, and if you're not happy take it back and get it fixed.

If you want to spend a lot more money, get a MOTEC, and you'll get control over variable valve timing, something all the others don't offer.... for far better tuning.

Be careful, if you just add a chip, then add mods, you'll need a re-tune for more expense.

You're better off buying a properly configured kit from one of the aftermarket suppliers.

The Chiptorque Exede is better than the Unichip product in my opinion. The Chiptorque Exede is programmable by yourself (if you have the inclination) where as the Unichip is only programmable by the workshops that distribute the product, and they charge an arm and leg for it. I know someone who installs the Unichip product who reckons its a money spinner. He reckons it takes bugger all time to install and tune but then they slug ya so much so they make about $500 in a couple of hours when they factor in how much they pay for the Unichip. The Exede is really a new up to date product whereas the Unichip is really old in comparison. I know this site advertises the Unichip, but I reckon your mad if you dont choose the Exede.
