How Long Do These Turbos Last

Currently looking at purchasing a BF MKii Rspec typhoon. Car has done 97000 km. I will be keeping it completly standard for at least a year and then maybe looking to push it to around 300rwkw. My main concern with this car is the KM it has travelled. Although it seems to be around the average ballpark figure for alot of these cars ive looked at im worried that something might go pop? How long will this turbo last...if I drive it for a year and thenn look to do some mods to and achieve around 300rwkw am I expected to have trouble with the turbo down the line?

probably about 250rwkw stock and a tune only will take ya to 300rwkw easily. as for how long they'll last ? look after it and no length to how it'll last ! abuse the sh*t out of it constantly will shorten anythings life expectancy.

Provided it has a good service history and theres no play in the turbo it should last you, many things can cause a turbo to sh*t itself earlier than others.

..................like a blocked oil line to the turbo. My car was 100% perfect health at 165,000ks, then I heard turbo bearing noise, then massive turbo failure, and a 2k bill two weeks later.

I think regular servicing should make the majority of components last a very long time being a Falcon, but then sometimes things just go wrong. So keep money up your sleeve for repairs, rather than just use it all on upgrades which is a common mistake (and the more power you have the more risk there is of failure!!)

Yep, its not just the screen either. My screen was fine, but the pipe itself was blocked at turbo side - something to do with excess heat and maybe incorrect use of oil at my servo (not happy if that contributed)

But for the OP I don't think any of these are major concerns (all cars have issues of some sort), if it has been looked after that T/Typhoon should have many years left!

My mate removed his screen on the weekend and got it just in time (at about 150,000km) and fitted a new braided oil line around the outside of the heat area although the original was still good. I think quality oil is the go but the cheap stuff will burn inside the line above the turbo and clog it up.

Tune only wont get you to 300rwkw. You'll need injectors, and to get a hi-flow cat.

Should last ages mate if the services are done properly and more regularly than the 15,000kms Ford say.. But with any car, sh*t happens no matter how well the cars been looked after..
