went for a run this arvo and heard a bit of an interesting noise, spooled up fine first couple of times I put my foot into it and then gave it a good squirt and as it hit full boost made a sort of wierd noise and for half a second wondered if it had overboosted... now every time it gets real high on boost it seems to make the same sound :newrussian:??? goes fine if it doesn't spool too hard but still pretty concerning. heard about people warping the actuator plate or something? apparently costs about $300 bucks to replace? either that or tune it back to standard, take it back to the dealers and hope for the best ... FFS!

only other thing I can think of is I had the tune done when I had 98 in the tank, but got a bit stingy today and just put general unleaded for the first time since the tune... wouldn't have thought the tune would play much havoc on stock parts, or that I'd see much diff from 98ron to standard unleaded! might have to ask bruce about it...

If it has a custom tune for 98 then 98 it must be 91 will make it run lean and that sound u are hearing might be pinging = very bad!!!

#5344

that's what I'm not sure about, I had 98 in it when I took it for the tune but didn't tell bruce (didn't realise it would make a difference at the time). as far as I know he just did a standard tune, I never specified 98 or anything... would he have tuned it for 98 anyway if he suspected that was what was in the tank?

I must admit I'm a little naive when it comes to the different tunes available, I just asked for a flash tune!! :senile:

#5345

It would be tuned to 98, allways use bp ultimate or p100 I would put my money on pinging but ring Bruce n ask but he will slap u for using 91 lol dose it sound like a marbles in a can sound?

#5346

Always use premium unleaded mate. It's as simple as that. High performance car = 98octane. Shell V-Power, BP Ultimate or Vortex and nothing else.

#5347

Looking at new car Fg Xr6 turbo ute or bf tornado? What's better

#5348

Bruce told me the caltex vortex is sh*t lol n get the FG :)

#5349

Caltex is not a true 98. BP is prob the best u can get.

And who knows if p100 is really 100 coming from a united. It's prob 98 or 99

cheers fellas reckon that's the problem... yeh I kinda slapped myself when I filled it! I'll ask bruce, but surely I should be able to up the octane with an additive? still got a brimming full tank... =(
