Hi Guys,

Today driving along had to boot it to get around a truck and stopped at a set of light about 200m ahead and it felt like it developed a miss, idle went all over the place. Took off next set of lights stopped and it was fine. Is this a case that the valve springs are shot?

Also I was gong to get a tune later this year if I go heavy duty springs (If they are the problem) will I need a tune?

Try THIS first see how you go otherwise yeah the I6 has always had a rough irregular sounding idle compared to Jap engines and the like. The ZF can seem to jump around in the revs slowing down to the lights every now and then but I wouldn't say it's that drastic.

What sort of car do you have?

Hi Dillz,

It only happens when I nail it and get it up around 5000+rpm and then I have to stop. The idle goes off really badly like its running on 4 cylinders the whole car shakes, if I boost it to say 3000rpm it doesnt do it. Its a BA MKII auto and the idle has always been good . I spoke to my mechanic who is a sponsor and he advised me that it is valve springs without looking at it and said I will need to tune it if I put in HD springs.

I did nizpro valve springs in my old manual ba without a tune and had no problems. Is tune really necessary Luke? If so, why?

And why the new username?

sorry wasn't very clear, Right about the springs being the issue. As for the tune I'd be inclined to get a health check/retune to be sure everythings a-okay but its not a must do IMHO

Re username change...why not :)

Its a stock car only CAI F6 Panel filter. I may have to find another tuner as my mechanic will not do the springs without tuning it. I just can't afford the whole tune at the momment injectors fuel pump etc. He reckons it changes boost levels etc.

It can be tuned without any extra hardware mods besides springs. I seriously doubt the springs will change the boost level......

As said before, I would at least run it up on the dyno after a spring change just to give it a health check
