Mine does it occasionally also creaping up a driveway

Imo I think its a line pressure issue with the low 1st gear in the ZF

ZF edit would fix this if we ever get it

I had/have this issue too, slowing down but not coming to a complete stop, then back on the gas and thump! into first.

I talked to my auto guy and after some investigation he told me the reason is that the box is programmed to only change from second into first once it sees 0 rpm from the wheel/abs sensors and knows its stopped moving. It does this to prevent the trans clunking into gear as first is such a big drop from second ( just try down shifting from 2nd to 1st at 10kmph).

However when you slow to an almost stop then get back on the gas it will allow selection of first, causing the clunk. The solution is simple- come to a complete stop(to allow the trans to select first) , or buy a manual!

Mine does allot of weird sh*t (all normal I assume) but never this.

However the other day it did clunk into second at WOT in sport mode from a pretty much limiter change into 2nd (courtesy of a very embarrassed VE SSturboboink.gif). That concerns me a bit. It's never clunked in auto flat to the floor.

That's a bit of BS, if you come to a slow stop you can feel it change back to first before the vehicle stops moving.

It all depends on how slow your moving, for how long Tab.

If I slow down to do a u turn, moving at say 5k's , then get on it to turn it will clunk into first.

However if im slowing at the lights , yes, once your going very slowly it will hook first,as you say "to a slow stop".

I think this issue is more about slowing at give ways etc than stopping at the lights.

my 2 cents worth....

I have an 08 fg ex copper and mine was doing the same thing ..shunt into first and the change from 3rd into 4th under load didnt feel rite like the other gears..

I complained to ford and they said diff bushes are stuffed we need to change them..ok done

I got back to ford cause still doing same thing hmmmmm we need to get the zf specialist out to have a look...ok done

Zf specialist reflashes and says software was old version drive this for 500kms let me know ..ok done same sh*t

I go back again ... this time im told that the zf speacilist reckons they have an updated software ? yeah rite

reflash again ...same sh*t

Then zf specialist admits that the computer is bringing up signs of auto having excessive wear on the clutches so we need to put new auto in ....DONE

Got car back today with new Auto...wow what a diffence..

When they did it they also had to replace transmision mount rubber apparently it was completely flogged out and fell on the floor when they were removing the box and im thinking perhaps that could be contributing to the thump we all commonly have when coming to a stop... so maybe if your auto is fine and it just has the thump check the tranny mount bush.

all in all it took some patience and some abusing to the dealer but they did cough up a new auto!

Thanks Ford:-) now to load my tune back in hehehe

After I got my tune done and the torque reduction removed by have a thump when coming to a stop when the tranny goes down from 2nd to 1st when in D. When I come to a stop, going back into 1st causes the car to surge forward.

If I drive in manual and downshift to from 2nd to 1st before coming to a stop no problems.

Could mine be just the torque reduction causing this?
