I reckon moisture has got in. if there is any separation between the clear and the metal, then condensation can occur

lol I don't think my mate was offering warranty when I bought them off him for $300 with good tires on them... so you reckon sand the clear coat off and polish??? maybe I can take them to a shop and get them done up smicko??

I got the same thing on my ford 18's

Could be something you are doing cleaning them then? Or the environment?

The clear coat has begun to degrade(clear has very little uv resistance-pigment is what offers that and clears have 0 pigment). Moisture has entered the damaged clear and allowed the alloy to oxidize and start to "push" the clear off. Best option is to have the clear coat removed and alloy re polished, the re-clear coated. Might not really be worth it unless you LOVE the rims- great opportunity for a new set of rims.

This happened to my son's standard XR6 rims after he stored them in the shed. I does look like worms but I think the moisture theory would be the likely cause a he lives in Darwin. You can take them to a reputable metal polisher then get them recoated. Sucks though hey!
