I'd like to remove the plastic valve assembly and just run a hose from the thermostat housing feeder pipe into the block ( effectively deleting all the heat exchanger crap) , but wondering what fitting is in the block, is it a barb which would allow me to just use a piece of suitable hose (1/2") ? I don't like it but it works. I want to do the same as you and after sussing it out a bit of hose bent in the right way would work to delete that plastic valves thing. It's just a c u next Tuesday to get them hoses off. You might even be able to recycle the hose from the exchanger. I seem to recall the valve leaks as it ages so keen to avoid any extra problems.
