this was a fd motor in my rx2 just keep the oil up to it, get a compression test done etc Most of the cars my mates have imported alway needed a rebuild or at least a seal kit put through them my rebuild cost me a fair wack due to 3mm seals fitted and guru studs put through the motor I never had a problem unless I was to wind the boost up without using c16

RX7's run on the same principles as every other jap car, for every good one there's lots of sh*t heap buzz boxes but granted with RX7's probably not as many.

A later model RX7 done right can be a absolute animal, not to mention has endless street cred.

I could not agree more with all the above,

I had a RX7 S1, major $ spent on it, it was like driving a go-kart with its handling and a motorbike with it’s acceleration, over the years it had a 13B PP “D” port with 475rwhp which would do 13000rpm and pull hard all the way from 5000rpm, they are cops in the low rpm because of the huge exhaust overlap, 13B turbo with a TO4 395rwhp heaps of go and a bit more reliable than the PP and a 12A turbo.

The only downfall it when you start pumping serious hp out of them they don't last a hell of a long time unless you are prepared to freshen them up every so often, the apex seals are the major let down, if one lets lose your looking at replacement of housings, rotors and so on and if a turbo motor that's going to have bit go thru it as well.

They need brake upgrades and gearbox mods if you plan on big power. I was lucky enough to have the $ to take the car to someone who did the brakes, suspension, diff and gearbox, but I dont think Rotormotion it not around anymore.

When it comes down to big hp, the old RX7 would have beaten most XR6T’s around (I say that expecting so back lash) and just about anything else it would come up against.

If you have spare $ and want something to get the adrenalin going these cars are the way to go.

ive always loved RX7s if I was to have a jap car it would most likely be a series 8! love the batmobils!
