Couldn't decide if it should go in the WPYO thread or the WMYFG thread since it's a bit of both, so why not here?

Caught the last episode of (this iteration of) Top Gear last night. Not technically a proper episode with no studio audience, no news, no car reviews, no stars in reasonably priced cars and definitely no gorilla, just Hammond and May introducing the last two complete segments filmed for the show before it all went fracas-y. The wry self-awareness from the remaining hosts was there, as the viewing audience too will feel it at times; all the more funny and ironic considering no-one was expecting the shows abrupt end when filming.

This 75 minute finale at times felt like a greatest hits of the many great three-host challenges Top Gear as concocted over its 22 series. Indeed, there wasn't anything that new in approach (besides a wonderful editing transition of time in front of a garage), but it showed familiarity, security, and a refinement of the style Top Gear used so successfully over it's years, and I'll be damned if I still didn't get some good laughs out of it. The final farewell certainly cements Hammond and May's stance on following Clarkson in his next endeavour, and not sticking around for the reboot next year; though I'm not sure it'll ever be quite the same - but that's probably the point.

So yes, thanks chaps for years of entertainment and goodbye (for now).

The only thing I'll really miss is the fact that they were going to do a "918 v P1 v La Ferrari" shootout and they didn't :(
