the one thing I do support for the whole green planet movement is Green Fleet - they plant trees to off-set your cars emissions, I wasn't exactly honest about mine though... :spoton:

The question is, when in earths histoy have these changes happened so QUICKLY. ??

And lets see how long you last on a nice rich CO2 diet.

If you do some research, you'll find that several times in Earth's past there is multiple occurances of rapid heating and cooling (much, much faster than the supposed warming of today). Hence the numerous discoveries of snap frozen cave men and animals.

Ice core samples also reveal much higher temperatures, and much higher levels of C02 due to volcanic erruption. The last major volcanic erruption dumped 400 years worth of human C02 production into the air.

I agree that we could clean up our act, and we are very wasteful, but this whole issue of C02 is a smokescreen. C02 is not the issue.

Finally, most of this catastrophic climate change hinges on the warming of the oceans. Even if temperatures rose by 5 degrees overnight, it would take over 1 milloin years for the ocean temperature to raise by even 1 degree, simply because they are so vast, deep and cold.

But hey, lets not let facts get in the way of a good alarmist story.

My carbon offsets,

I grow a lawn and compost the cuttings.

I also use as many disposable paper products as I possibly can. I refuse to recycle paper, which therefore ends up in landfill. The whole process has the effect of fixing carbon from the atmosphere for long-term storage.

My Carbon prevention.

I am looking for a cork to seal up small to medium sized volcanoes... something around 10km diameter should be fine for the medium size one. The super volcanoes are however still a problem...

I am also looking for a tube of silicone to seal up the mid ocean ridge system. It will need to be a big tube as the main ridge is 23,000km long and 2km high with thousands of lateral faults.

Then there are the....

Green is a new religion.

Regards,

aa

From what I've heard, the whole CO2 thing could quite easily be solved. The Amazon rainforest is refered to as the Earths lungs, because it is so massive all the trees soak up a large percentage of the worlds CO2, and converts it into oxygen. Just need to stop those damn Brazillians from cutting it all down.

Total human output of C02 is about 1.5%, billions of tons come from the ocean every day. Also contrary to urban myth trees only make 10% of the planets oxygen, the rest come from the suns reaction with the ocean. It is the oceans that release CO2 and also create oxygen. Don't get me wrong I'm all for trees, and they ae necessary, look good, and do have uncountable good uses and we don't have any right to destroy the environment. But we ain't doing anywhere near as bad as what the greenies and tree huggers would have us beleive we are. Carbon Footprint My Asre :tonguepoke:

You make some good points. However this one above ^^^, I seriously doubt the CSIRO has miscalculated ocean warming and ocean rising by this extent!

a million years? I would like to see the science on THAT!

Then check the link back to the 100s of disputing highly qualified scientists at the EPA link I posted at the beginning of my thread hijack. When you consider most meterologists can't even accurately predict the weather patterns 2 days from now. I wouldn't put much credence in any CSIRO model. And despite Al Gores fantasy, if the ice caps did melt, which they are not at all, then because water expands when it becomes ice, the sea levels would only rise a maximum of 1cm, not the metres he talks about in his second rate pack of lies which should have been titled "A Convenient Profit for Al from An Inconvenient Half Truth"

geez, get back on topic.

I think the duratec 3.5 is the go coz it will allow Ford Oz to put that in the territory too and that will make it more competitive should oil prices remain high. (lucky our high aussie dollar is protecting us from those prices btw!)

Shame Ford Oz couldnt tweak the Geelong 4.0L down to 3.9 and give it an alloy block

Well said. Also, on the ice caps, most of the ice is floating in the ocean, meaning that if it melts, it won't make a scrap of difference to the ocean levels (its called displacement).

The so called evidence we are being shown in relation to the ice caps melting is ice bergs breaking off. This is in fact evidence of growing ice caps, which shed their edges as they expand.

The other evidence popularly used is ice melting in Greenland, however, history shows that the ice in Greenland is only a recent thing (over thal last few hundred years). What we are seeing now is Greenland reverting back to the way it was. Also on this note, historical maps and charts show a visible coastlines in the Arctic, which are currently covered by tons of show and ice.

Historians have proved that temperatures in the middle ages were much hotter than they are now (yet they weren't underwater), then the earth went into a cooling cycle. Many scientists agree that we are now simply coming out of that cooling cycle (it was only 25 years ago when it was widely beleived that humans were causing global cooling).

Finally, it is documented that the Earth's total H20 levels are fairly constant, while it is dry in some parts, it is wet in others, in some places the water is frozen. Water is evorated into the atmosphere on one place, and falls in another (the Earth's total annual rail fall is a constant). New water is not manufactured. For the theory of rising ocean levels through the melting of the ice caps to be true, the oceans levels would have to have fallen by roughly the same levels to create the ice caps in the first place.

There were also hundreds of "scientists" who said smoking does not create any health risks...
