3,000km Service

I asked my Salesman, after he showed me the service centre, "Do I bring it in at 1500kms ?". He said it was 15,000kms. That can't be right. When is the first scheduled service for the XR6T ?

Its 3000km for the XR6T, probably the same for all the BA's.

This is just a free checkup, but when ours is due l think l will have them change the oil & filter also.

Yep its at 3000KMS.. Ive been told its not a "real service" Its just a complimentary check over.

I just registered at www.myford.com.au and guess what ?!?! ... it gives you a reminder date for your service after 15000kms. Why is this ? No mention of 3000km service there.

There seems to be so much BS about the service scheduling.

1. Modern oils and engines can probably do real long distances between services. This is due to tighter manufacturing tolerances.

2. Is 15,000 klms too long for oil to provide a barrier between metal surfaces - especially in the combustion chamber?

3. Are Synthetics OK when 'running in'?

Given these concerns I propose the following.

Ask someone in the know - ie Ford Australia.

Rev the motor at every opportunity during the initial running in period of 3000 klms.

Change the oil and filter. The filter being the important bit.

Use a mineral based oil for the next 5,000 klms (one that meets the manufacturers specifications of cause).

Change the oil and filter.

Use a mineral oil for the next 7,000 klms.

Then let Ford have a go and replace with a sythetic plus a new filter.

The important points being - rev it as often as you can. But not prolonged red line stuff. Just ease it there - grab another gear - ease it there. Then back off. Repeat add naseum until the licence gives out.

Find the right road and the right time.

This is what I have done on new motorcycles. The bikes then are OK to rev but not thrashed. This is the outcome we are all aiming for.

Plus - the filter is more important than the oil these days.

Get amongst it - ther is nothing better than bonding with the ride during thr 'running in' period.

Just to add.

I have been told 1st service is at 3000km or 4 months, whichever is first. It must be done around this time for it to be free. Next service is then 15,000 km on the clock and then every 15,000 km till 3years. Then every 10,000 km.

I was also informed that the 3k service is not "necessary" but the customer feedback told them that people would be happier if they had this service. We are used to the 1500k service or so they are informed. :eat:

Good advice all round. I'll drop mine back at 3000kms then go for the 15000.

Hi Guys,

Just took in my T' for its 3000k initial service and was actually a bit disappointed at the feedback I got from the techie (I know most of these have been brought up in earlier topics before) :( -

* No intended oil change until 15k service - I demanded that they do one as I wasn't going to wait that long to get the $%@? out my car. $30 later - new oil filter and oil change done

* Uneven tyre wear on front tyres - Alignment, wheel balance and rotation required

* Fuel Vapour Valve from the Fuel Purge needed replacing???? As it was fluterring

* Cooling system had a leak and found Water Pump and O-Ring leaking - New Water Pump had to be installed

My question is did anyone have any major dramas on their initial service or was I just unlucky?? I mean yeah most of these came under the warranty but the oil change was something different as I had to fork out for it as I wasn't advised that this was optional.

Hopefully no one gets a worse report than this or if you did how was the service team as I must admit mine was pretty helpful.

Hopefully these are the only thing and I don't have to worry about anything else until the 15k service. As I am trying to keep optimistic about Ford concentrating on Quality and not Quantity.

Consider yourself lucky...

$30 for an oil change, I payed $140.....

They fogged off a lot of things on me, I had a massive list, and they didnt finish some of it because they 'forgot"...

Ditto on the oil change mate, I got stung $120 (for the last time I might add).

With the tyre wear is it on the inside or outside of the tyre, if so get the camber checked (by a independent tyre place) if the camber is out of spec its a warranty job. If so inspect the job afterwards and make sure they have installed the washers on BOTH sides ( I speak from experience, my old El ).

Other than a couple of minor things, spoiler seal leting in water to my boot, windscreen whistle and lifting windscreen seal (all fixed beautifully) no other dramas. Happy Hooning :D
