Ok, so the diff place tell me they think it's a cracked LSD hemisphere after hearing/seeing it... not good for the wallet :crybaby: Not quite what I was hoping for but you play you pay!

On another note, how's 10:30am Saturday at Rhino's for all the Rocko/Kwinana guys? Should leave enough time to get to Xtreme before everything gets underway? Also is there anyone else that doesn't live in Rocko that wants to cruise up with us??? It would be easy to organise another meet point on the way :spoton:

To add to my gearbox woes the exhaust now sounds like a truck! I hope its just a case of loose turbo bolts and not something major, and considering performance is the same as usual I suspect it isnt too bad. My poor neighbours will hear about it tomorrow morning though!

I reckon we have discovered the lifespan of these cars...

mine sounded like a truck too. if it pongs a bit in the engine bay its just the bolts or gasket. happened to mine when it was 30k old, ended up being a snapped flange bolt I think the guy at ford said!.

Ended up being quite unusual, but thankfully easy to fix! :spit:

It was one of the bolts that holds the exhaust housing of the turbo to the body, its worked its way out and ended up wedged between the oil feed line and the front housing! How lucky was that?! I thought I would be wandering along Gt Northern Highway looking for a bolt less than an inch long.

No more noise

Had an interesting and very long day yesterday.

For about a month I have had problems with the gearbox... second gear synchro just wasn't synchronising and hence it crunched into second every time. So I asked Allan his opinion as to whether it's fixable and how hard it is, and he offered his help which is greatly appreciated (what a champ! :ermm:)

Anyways I asked the parts department at ford for the parts needed to replace the synchros and they gave me 6 synch rings... also got a bottle of Transmax Z.

Got around to Allan's place yesterday morning to have a go at it and everything went quite smoothly up to the point of pulling the gears off the shaft... this is what FELL out...

which sits inside here...

Amazing it still operated fairly normally... unfortunately this caused some wear on the parts within the second synchro set (in the second picture, the inside thrust ring) which doesn't apply enough friction to the gear to synch it to the main drive gears... so new synch rings didn't help my cause. Thankfully Allan had some abstract thoughts and made a replacement part out of the inner race of a bearing. It made the synchro work slightly better but I will still need to replace the worn parts.

Its hard to understand how this spacer ring has broken into 4 pieces... there isnt a great deal of heat in the box, and it can't be under much load surely... the best explanation we could come up with was a manufacturing defect??

Thankfully the gearbox went together and back in the car much quicker and easier than it came out... any more nasty surprises and I think we both would have spat it.

So I can't thank you enough Allan for your help, I'm very greatful and as other members have experienced you are a top bloke for your efforts to help this community. Cheers mate!

Glad I was able to help Steve

There was a time there were I thought we might not have got you back on the road for a few days, as you are right, the damage was substantial.

I haven't been all that active here for a couple of months, as work has seen me travel a bit, and in August we lost one of our German Shepherds to Leukemia, so cars wasn't the first thing I was thinking of :spoton:

Anyway, will keep an eye on proceedings a bit more closely now, so good to see many of you are still kicking about :spoton:

Cheers,
