18/10/05 07:48 AM18/10/05 07:48 AM #1 Guys looking for more power in the form off a chip, being organised by a friend of the family.Wondering what is a reasonable amount of power that standard internals can handle. What are the warranty issues and isurance issues?Any help apreciated.
18/10/05 08:24 AM18/10/05 08:24 AM #2 Imo anything over 300rwkw your starting to stretch your luck.Warranty well with modified internals I dont think there would be warranty as for insurance depends on who you insure with theres quite a few companys that will cater for all sorts of modifications!!
18/10/05 08:49 AM18/10/05 08:49 AM #3 What sort of chip and who's doing the tuning? What other mods do you have or are you planning.Stock internals are good for about 300rwkw's.Geea.
18/10/05 12:43 PM18/10/05 12:43 PM #4 Coupla comments...Warranty - by rights void for driveline componants if Ford can prove the mod contributed - as I understand it in practice - is a real problem and others on this forum have reported that Ford send out a representative for any drive train warranty issues. Others have had good experiences so probably comes down to what you do, how stealthy it is, and how good a relationship you have with your dealer...Insurance - I am with AAMI and had no probs - just make sure you let them know before hand or you might be in trouble if you get in trouble - basically talk to your insurer fist and find out the implications for your circumstancesEngine - internals - 300rwkw is usually relable - some have stretched to about 330rwkw - you should not expect this kind of power with just a chip or edit. Dependant on what the car is you might need to either upgrade the transmission (or if getting edited ensure pressures are increased etc...) or if it has a T5 then you probably should be more concerned about G/box - any of the turbo mans may require a clutch upgrade, again dependant on what power you are hunting...Good luck - there is a lot information on this forum if you hunt for it!Cheers,Ben.
19/10/05 03:06 AM19/10/05 03:06 AM #5 APS have released their phase III kit with 330rwkw in the manual and 310rwkw in the auto. In their opinion anything about is not recommended on stock internals. If the engine is well tuned this appears to be the case, given the results of most people out there with this level of car peformance. Then again the amount of power is dependant on the modifications you make to your car. It its just a chip then of course the power will be much less.Insurance is a good question. Make sure you have any mods listed on your insurance agreement. Although some may be lucky enough to have made a claim without disclosure of mods, it is the legal right of the insurer to refuse a claim if mods are not disclosed. Also, you may wish to consider ADR and EPA complaince from a legal point of view as this could also be a way out for an insurance company if your car is not legal. APS kits can provide this without any fuss.Good luck

19/10/05 07:11 AM19/10/05 07:11 AM #8 Author Cheers guys, I own a BA Mk 11 6 speed manual, unfortunately I don exacely know what is getting done at this point, as it is being organised by brother as a birthday present. He has said expect another 60 kw. Personnally I would be happy with about 285-290 kw at the flywheel.I am insured with AAMI, and from what I have read, they sound pretty cool, so when I know what it is I am getting done then I will let them know.I am currently working on building a good repore with a ford servicing agency to try aleviate them looking into mods.I only plan a mild engine power upgrade, maybe a k&n air filter and have another post looking into brakes. Will let you guys know how it all goes. Thanks guys I am enjoying the forum and enjoying the car.See you all aroundScotty
