Im, very interested in getting some type of edit. I believe ill probably go down the APS pathway, as I am already running APS phase 3.

Some questions I would like answered are.

1. What would be a safe rev limit for a car with modded rods and pistons,

2. Can the speed limiter be removed with edit.

3.Will my UNI chip be removed or will I run unichip and edit?

4.When will there be a demo day for edits?

Thanks in advance for your answers.

At the risk of sounding stupid I would like to make a few comments.

For years the Ford performance sector was largely ignored in the aftermarket arena, with a few notable exceptions. For their trouble they seemed to be landed with the tag "rip off" merchants.

The XR6T seems to have sparked interest in parties that wouldn't have previously given the blue oval product the time of day and for that we can be extremely grateful.

Companies like APS and Cappa and their related media spinners are to be commended but the more things change the more they stay the same. Its no easier getting a straight answer today then it was 30 years ago.

Real time means sh*t to me the consumer and I will admit to no understand this term the way it is being applied here. Any time a car is tuned to conditions and not simply having a generic code applied is real time. I suspect the meaning here is the difference in the way the respective modules receive the changes. The effectiveness of this can come down to the difference between two people and I will get to that in a minute.

I am only interested in the end result that has to be consistent. It means far more to me to have a system that is integrated and not to have the wiring system or visual evidence of tampering. I would have thought the ability to retune the factory BCM would have obvious advantages that piggy back systems don't provide that quite frankly would be beyond question. I understand that real time might make the tuners job easier, but at the end of play I am interested in what the graph shows and how the car feels.

For someone to try and tell me one car did xx.xxx with this that and the other, only to quote times of a different day driver and conditions as indicative proof of merit, well lets be polite about it- that’s f***n stupid.

I couldn't get an answer about Tasmanian tuning options and an email to Cappa seemed to promote the base generic tune package. Over years of piggy back experience it was proven that the Unichips ability to be custom tuned was pretty much its biggest selling point. Plug and play just never really worked and provided very little in the way of benefits. The same is going to apply here probably not to the same extent but it is a case of buyer beware! If the product has custom ability then use it. $300 extra is nothing to the added advantages provided in this way.

When you get to customer tune the benefits come down to the guy doing the job and it really is that simple. What you pay for in terms of dyno time and results is directly down to the guy doing the tuning, not the product.

As far as we are concerned there is only one person in this state we trust with a product of this type and he has strong links to the Unichip product. Given that we (FPV) club feel as though we will wait and see the merits of both systems, reason being the ability to tune with a guy that knows what he is doing far out weights any political speak coming from an agenda.

My view is that the alternative won't want to have a chip anywhere in sight and that someone is really going to have to convince me there is a REAL DAY- REAL NIGHT -REAL SUMMER AND REAL WINTER advantage to having one before I change my mind. Personally I would rather bring the car to the mainland and SA if necessary to take full advantage of what in theory has to be an excellent product

Hey Martin,

I was right beside Camerons car when it was put on the dyno at the Expensive Daewoo vs Ford Nationals in Melbourne. It stalled 3 times just backing up onto the dyno ...

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

You're dead wrong of course about the Unichip causing the stalling problem on the GT, We disconnected the Unichip and the stalling problem was even worse.

It's my view that aftermarket headers with the O2 sensors located in the wrong position was the main cause of the stalling problem (poor signal from the 02 sensor) though there are also plenty of dead stock GT's which have experienced this stalling issue. :spoton:

Thanks

Peter

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Ha ha .... am always dead wrong

Could that thing actually stall worse than when I saw it perform on the dyno with a unichip installed FAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRKKK.

I'd just want to burn it.

Congratulations to Martin if he resolved that issue by doing his recent edit and pissing of the unichip ...

I'd much rather the drivability than bloody stalling all the time but thanks for your concern Peter

If the car is stalling all the time take it back to the dealer. I think ultimately the appeal of edit and unichip is to get better performance out of a car rather than fix issues that are the responsibility of the manufacturer.

Since having my unichip installed my car has stalled 3 times and that was within 1 hour when changing fuel from one supplier to another. Since then nothing. It had also stalled once before I even put the unichip on.

just my thoughts here its been comon knoledge that to pass epa and etc you leave the non load items alone if posible and if this is the case then how could it be worse than factory?

we are talking std injectors on a boss yeah?

why tf would theese points be touched?

although this said if the problem was mixtures or timing this should have been done for customer satisfaction

hsveater,

What is it that you didn't understand in my last post to you, this car had a stalling problem, period.

Our techs had a look at the GT in question and found that the engine stalled with the Unichip removed from the car, clearly there was an issue elsewhere, either one of the other mods or a PCM/sensor problem, either way this was NOT caused by the installation of the UNICHIP computer. :nono:

Please don't make stupid uneducated comments about a product or technology that you obviously don't understand. :nono:

Thanks

Peter

Absolutely spot on Geeseman, the only problem for this guy was the car had other modifications, it's my best guess that the Ford dealer would not look at the car because of the other mods :nono:

I still believe that an incorrect o2 sensor position (caused by the design/ fitment of after market headers) was the cause of the intermittent engine stall, the o2 sensor response was very sluggish/slow on this engine. :spoton:

Thanks

Peter

Thanks for your reply Peter

If as you state; incorrect o2 sensor position was the problem causing the stalling how did Martin Donon resolve the stalling issue with SCT Flash Tuner???

Did he replace the aftermarket headers ... he made no mention of it! Or was the SCT Flash Tuner able to adjust the parameters in the Ford PCM actually causing the stalling!!!

I think APS should hurry along Boss Edit for sending customers on their merry way n simply saying its a Ford problem or an O2 sensor problem would'nt be very satisfying tune up experience

I would have been happy to investigate and diagnose the stalling problem though this takes time and the customer would need to pay for our time to rectify the stalling problem as it was in no way related to the Unichip computer install.

I have no doubt that either changing the position of the o2 sensors back to the correct position or replacing the slow/sluggish o2 sensors would have rectified the stalling problem, I guess if you go to work you expect to be paid and we are no different, why should we spend money and time to fix a non Unichip related problem UNLESS the customer is willing to pay for our services?

Have you got it now, this problem could have been sorted though at the customers expense, afterall it's his car and who else other than the owner should pay?

The car was modified (and the mods were the most likely cause of the stalling problem) so you can't expect Ford to warrant this problem.

By the way we have tuned many GT's and XR8's with the Unichip computer and had ZERO problem with engine stalls that I can recall.
