Me either, but mainly because of the known LS1 engine probs. Every LS1 I know of either has these problems or has just had an engine rebuild. And I have only driven 2 LS1 powered cars (VX Berlina & VU SS ute) and wasn't overly impressed with the power. BUT, a lot of OTHER Australians HAVE been persuaded to buy HSV products, a hell of a lot MORE than buy FPV (or Tickford) products. And that is an undisputable fact. So maybe Australians are dumb.

In regards to Cretan, is it possible that he may be worried about public perception when the Typhoon comes out. HSV want everybody to think that V8's are the be all of performance cars, but with the Typhoon coming out, maybe this may change. Doutful though. I think he's just pissed off that they can't make a turbo charged 6 to sell.

A lot of people apart from Crennan still do think V8s are the duck's nuts in performance cars otherwise Ford and Expensive Daewoo wouldn't be bothered to continue to make them.

But that number seems to be getting smaller. How many 'grey import' cars like Skylines and the like do you see cruising around these days? Fcuken heaps! A lot more than you see V8s. I bet if you interviewed a bunch of 16-17 yo males these type of cars would be the main ones they are lusting after. When I was this age I was lusting after a V8 and people like Allan Moffat was my hero. Now there is a much greater choice of cars available, and these turbo 4 and 6 cyl cars represent pretty good value for money and respond well to aftermarket modifications. It is harder, more expensive to mod a late model XR8 for probably less performance so it's no wonder all the kids of today want a Skyline or similar. And we all know how easy and relatively cheap to get more performance out of XR6T, it would be too easy for Ford to drop the XR8 and just sell the XR6T.

Expensive Daewoo do make a turbo version of their new 6 cyl but at the moment only export it for use in SAABs. A dare say at some stage in the future Expensive Daewoo and/or HSV will bring out a version in a Commodore (or maybe a smaller car as seen at Sydney Motor Show). HSV did try the performance 6 cyl route a few years ago with the XU-6 supercharged V6 but it wasn't very powerfull (I think then XR6 had more power) so it died a natural death. Possibly as you say HSV fans are a different demographic to Ford fans and prefer the V8 over a performance 6 cyl but I dare say (like I was) that given a 6 cyl with performance to match or beat a V8 and priced several thousand dollars below it's V8 brother, it would of sold. Remember the XU-1 Torana back in the 1970s?

Mate pretty much concur.

You know Expensive Daewoo are worried when cretin starts talking about sales figures 10 of ours to 3 of theirs. They are well aware of what impact the Mighty "T" has already had on the performance market.

I think FPV are on a winner with the Phoon. IMHO V8 diehards will always remain so the market for them will not change, as long as FORD keep producing them. I do believe that the Phoon is aimed at the Japanese market where alot of Ricers who are growing up and having families will be needing large cars with room and comfort. I think FORD will grasp this opportunity by the balls and be the leader in performance for quite a few years to come. Now all we need is FPV to start doing a bit more with their V8's!!!!!!!!!!

It's good to see the HSV boss bring up & put down the Typhoon, it means they're worried & have nothing to match it on!
