Facts about Intercooling

Gi Guys,

I've been reading a few threads here on intercooling lately and it is becoming apparent to me that the issues being discussed are either irrelevant to the XR6T and/or have come from experience with small capacity turbocharged engines. To make it worse (or even more confusing) the important issues regarding the role of an intercooler system are being ignored.

The XR6T is a vehicle that demands a departure from traditional intercooler design and a clean slate approach was warranted due to the unique requirements of the T.

To assist anyone who is interested in learning about the issues involved in intercooler design and specification specifically for the XR6T, a discussion piece has been placed on the APS web site that explains what the T needs.

Great web site, George. The intercooler info is great... especially because I'm a dope when it comes to things mechanical. Do yourself a favour... run a spell check over your site and it'll look a whole lot better... (it's philosophy not phylosophy).

Hi George,

do you have any answers for this question that I placed in another thread on the forum:

Have you had any experience testing the intake temps for the engine after it leaves the intercooler and goes through the piping to the engine? The reason Im asking is the piping runs across the engine and I would imagine picks up some heat from this, and expands as a result.

Having had a look at a intercooler setup after the car has had a few runs, the piping gets very hot and Im assuming this affects the performance of the engine.
