Firstly I DO work for an oil manufacturer (Technical Services side), but you are all correct in that if you personally do not see the benefits of a synthetic, then DON"T USE THEM! Isher, you are dead right. No manufacturer will recommend a product tht is not able to do the job, it's just that some do the job better than others. Turbo6man, you are correct in waiting a little while to allow some further "running-in", but it is OK to change the viscosity rating, say from a 15w/40 to a 10w/40 or 10w/50, even further (I use a 10w/60 synthetic) as long as you know what you are doing. If not, then stick closer to what the manufacturer recommends. Mainline56, you are also correct in that if you use a mineral oil and change it more often, you will do no harm at all. Synthetics DO perform better than mineral oils, but if you do not see the value or you don't beat up on the car a heap, then you will probably find perfectly good performance from a mineral product provided it meets the manufacturers API requirement, that is SH, SJ or SL. Check the previous threads for more details.

With all due respect, to suggest that "our Ken" has passed the baton may be a little premature. Thanks Mainline. I think that the ISO reference is to the fact that the kW is an ISO kW, not haow it is measured. I have tried to find a standard of some sort for these things, but am unable to. Some test methods exist for ships and some other types of machinery, but not for automotive chassis dynos. I got a similar torque figure to your standard one, with the air filter removed, but the kW didn't change at all. Methinks I'll be removing the front muffler at some point soon.

When I ordered my car, I tried one country dealer (I have a fleet deal) because we as a company try to spread the deals around our customers, but this dealer said he didn't want to use his allocation on a fleet deal because he already had a number of retail deals to get. His allocation was only 2 or 3 XR6Ts a year. Another dealer had pretty ordinary sales so didn't mind. They both knew that the car wasn't going to be serviced by them either, so it's just a case of the dealership trying o retain as much margin as possible.

4th manual mode is not in torque convertor "lock up", so your road speed is lower than 4th gear "auto" mode, at the same RPM. Hence your litres per 100km will be higher because it will take you longer to do 100km at a slower road speed.

Sounds like a normal Sunday street meet with the optional "club" or organisation or group being allowed to run together. If it IS a normal Sunday meet, then the $30 will have to be put up BEFORE the event, or it is $40 on the day. Are you in Al??
