  1. fook that's a 1st !!! every panelbeater ive ever come across would have done the whole job and just slightly inflated the bill b4 giving it to the insurance co with maybe a couple of cartons thrown his way from you to say thanks..... ← I know what you're saying mate!! the guys I wanted to take it too were gonna do the boot and the whole re-spray for just the cost of paint!! The pearl paint being at my expense, and then just charge insurance for the re-spray... needless to say they didnt get the job I honestly didnt think he'd charge $2000... as the car is already gonna be pulled to bits, and its not as if its that much extra work to prep the good panels and then put the clear coat on. I suppose 2k is pretty steep... still the cheapest re-spray I'll ever get
  2. good point zap, I forgot about re-sale value. But would it make it reduce it that much? I'll be keeping the blood orange colour, it'll just be a clear coat over the top of that with silver flakes... almost like tiny dust particles. It'll basically just give it a slightly different look. Sorta like a glitter effect, or more metallic. The colour wont change, it'll just be a clear coat on top.. he's gonna spray one of the old panels for me, so I can have a look and see if I like it before he does the whole car though
  3. hmm, I havent really thought about it much... but from what I gather, he's gonna charge the insurance company for the panels that need fixing, and then charge me for the extra work. I dunno... the whole thing basically needs a re-spray anyways, so instead of just doing the panels that need them, I figured I'd get the whole car done with a custom touch. I suppose $2000 isn't too bad, considering I'll be getting a full re-spray. Just seems as though he might be double dipping... He's been pretty great about everything though, so I think I'll go ahead with it!
  4. hey guys, the beast is currently being fixed. Anyways, since the only panels that don't need touching are the right hand rear quarter, boot, roof, and right hand rear door, I figured I'd get a custom paint job done. Originally I was going to get a pearl through the orange, but have since changed my mind and opted for a silver flake through the clear coat. I got quoted $2000 to do the car, and also weld and fix the boot where I took the spoiler off. Thing is, I was also quoted $2000 for the pearl paint by the same guy.. so wouldn't the flake and clear coat be cheaper, and easier to do?? Is $2000 reasonable?? considering the insurance company will already be paying him to spray most of the car! and he'll only need spray a few extra panels and add a couple of coats of clear coat with the flake. The flake itself cost about $150.. so that's not the cost. I could have supplied it at that price, but he said he'd supply it.. so he can't charge me anymore then that, surely! I was thinking $1000-$1500 cash on top of whatever insurance would pay was more then enough! obviously not??
  5. I took my car down a gully and over some chopped down trees and stumps. Seems to have worked a treat for one of the lights, might need to do the trip again to get the other one out
  6. I wish I had the money and time to baby my car that much!! actually, even if I had the money and the time, I wouldn't have the patience!!
  7. cheers guys! well, I wont let the same happen with my intercooler! The panel beater has already said he'd give it to me. As I said, he's been a top bloke so far, just the suspension people were I suppose the worst part is, that they never called me or anything. Besides that, I got really annoyed when he said he binned it... as if... who in their right mind would throw away a 19x8.5 rim in perfect condition bar 2 small scratches, plus it had 10,000km old rubber on it! so that still had plenty of life. Ah well, I suppose I know better for next time, in saying that I hope there never is a next time!!!
  8. that's a good idea mate. Might look into that! Probably work out cheaper too! In saying that, I think I'd have to see the black ones on the orange. I dont suppose anyone has a blood orange XR with the black lights for me to have a sample view of??
  9. Well, I wont be going the chrome by the looks of that! But the black might still be an option... I dunno! there are just too many XRs out there these days. Need to be different some how, but don't want any reactions in doing so!!
  10. cheers seventytwo, was that with the chrome ones?? they look a little I wonder how the black would look. I got a feeling that the black might look ok... I dunno!! just throwing around some diff ideas for the beast.
  11. Hey guys, Considering these rear lights, and was wondering what they'd look like on the orange beast. Can anyone do a photo edit for me?? That would be greatly appreciated! There are chrome and black, so if ya could do both that would be sweet! Cheers, Jimmy.
  12. ah well, I suppose it gone now... but keep an eye out for a random 19inch rim sitting on someone trailer, as a hose reel, coffee table stand, or anything else damn, it woulda looked good in my lounge room!!
  13. I'll call insurance tomorrow and find out if they gave permission to dispose of the rim. I understand it was probably not mine... but when you pay $2500 excess, it would be nice to have something to keep!!! It was just dodgy how the guy said it was in the bin... then he went out to check, came back 15 seconds later and said, yep, in the bin... taken away by now! I read some where that the insured parts can be claimed by the owner (me).. but perhaps that was at a further cost??
  14. okkk, again, as most know my beast is off the road getting fixed for a little run in with a few trees and a gully. Anyways, I went in to see how the work was progressing. and the panel beater has been tops anyways, I notice that I have a new rim and new rubber, which is great... and I ask him where my old rim is... he said that the suspension place should still have it.. so I go there, and ask for my rim only to be told that its in the bin and been taken away.. OKKKK, a near perfect rim... a couple of scratches from the accidents, with good rubber.. and they binned it??? BULLsh*t. more like they kept it, or sold it. So, where do I stand?? I wanted to use that rim as a spare. Should I call my insurance company?? technically, aren't all the parts, damaged or not, still mine?? so shouldn't I get to keep the rim? Made me so angry that they threw it in the bin.. (if that's what they did). It would have served as a great spare! Does anyone know anything about this kind of thing?? should I have got it back?? or because it was under insurance am I just Any help would be great!!
  15. I had my hi flow cat installed prior to my edit tune being ready, and I had to drive around with it for a few days. I only gave it a squirt on the odd occasion. Boost did not go over the factory 4.5psi, and I had no limp mode. However, I didnt drive it to redline, or WOT. I think the factory ecu will allow some changes, as it will compensate. For example, a bigger cooler will tell the ecu that it is getting colder air, and it will adjust accordingly. But, you won't get the full advantage of the installed components until you do a custom tune or have the ecu changed. Just my thoughts!!
  16. take it to the track. you race in his car, he races in your car. do several runs in each others car, several in your own car. See what average times apply and then try and compare. Its too hard to make comparisons in that way mate.
  17. welcome back mate!
  18. CAI and Intercooler will set you back almost the cost of the edit... for far less a gain!! Go the edit. Allow $1500 for a custom tune. Easily gain between 40-60kw at the wheels.
  19. mate, take it from me... save your money, and do it all at once. Especially if money is tight! If you get edit with a custom tune.. allow at least $1500. Say you did this, and then wanted to do the injectors, you'd need another re-tune. Then say you wanted to do cat/intercooler, you'd need another tune. Basically I did edit first, then I went and did injectors, intercooler, fuel pump and cat. I should have done it all at once! If you put your money aside, save at least $6500 for these mods. Fuel pump ~ $400 Injectors ~ $600 Intercooler ~ $800 Cat ~ $300-$400 Edit tune ~ $1500 CAI ~ $400 Valve Springs ~ $700 Plus if you have a manual allow at least $1200 to $1300 (fitted) on a clutch. If you have an auto allow for cooler, plus trans work. Alternatively, just get the edit and hope that the bug doesn't come back too soon!! obviously the aboved mentioned mods will also need some one to fit them! so allow extra for labour. I was lucky and had a mate fit all my mods for peanuts! Also, valve springs are not always needed! It will depend on the year, make of your car. I have mark1, and I haven't needed to do valve springs yet. A high flowing cat will help the cause too.
  20. so I take it you give it the thumbs up mate??? that's great. I'm really considering getting one! the misses wants me to sell the T that won't be happening. I already told her my conditions haha... I sell the T I buy a phoon.. But the xr5 is looking a good option... I might need to wait another year though.. being under 25 insurance is killing me! will modding it be similar to the T?? edit? injectors? etc etc??
  21. hey guys, unfortunately I have night shift that night!! plus my car is still in pieces! Can't wait for the next one though!!
  22. Men and Boys (kids) are one and the same! Its just the price of our toys that increase Great cars! Both the phoon and Ts.
  23. I got a 4 inch magic cat. It has the 4 inch body with a 3.25 inch inlet/outlet. Cost was $300 shipped to my door. Flows approx 750-780cfm. Pretty good flowing. Simon (extreme) recommended I get the 5 inch one which flows closer to 900cfm. Although that was $550, and I didn't really have the coin at the time!
  24. I am thinking of getting UNDR8TD on my car. (Under Rated). Also thinking of UNLEASHD (unleashed). Or NO-TRACN (no traction). Just some of the ones I am thinking about when I get the coin together. I wasn't gonna post them up for fear of my ideas being stolen but what the hell!! I think the no traction one suits considering I lost traction and ran into a gully
