MS700 No problem I will try to give you guys as much foward notice that's possible, be great to meet some of you from Canberra, just wait until you taste the hamburger's at calder that alone will make the trip worth while. PETER APS

Bossman, Well the best way to proceed would be to go straight to the PHASE II system if your budget allows, and to sell your current exhaust to recoup some funds. The cat back is really over rated in terms of bang for buck, if on a limited budget the UNICHIP is the place to start when chasing more power and torque. PETER APS

Hi Mark, The redline oil and a trans cooler is a very worth while upgrade , even more so if you tow heavy loads. Mate their are plenty of guys who would love to own a 12 second ute that your granny could drive on sunday because it drives so smoothly. Speak wiyh you soon. PETER APS
  4. Hi Rod no news yet, I hope we will start testing this week if all goes to plan , its slower than expected I realy need 3 xr6t's in order to speed up the testing progress. PETER APS

AZMAN good to hear from you. At the moment we are attempting to beef up the auto trans, as soon as this work is completed we will be back out to calder and with a bit of luck run a 10 second pass we are very close its just the auto letting us down at the moment. Make sure you come up and say gooday, Calder , hamburgers , Coffee , Cold night , XR6T's and a good group of guys sounds like a lot of fun. Will let you guys know when where planing the next Calder night. PETER APS

Big Bossman ,I need to put the finishing touches to this project, and when I have the plug in harness completed I expect to finalise the injector issue. This is the current plan to make available the UNICHIP with the plug in harness with a matched set of BOSCH multi orifice 440cc injectors. I dont have final pricing now though I am positive that the pricing will be a pleasant surprise for all xr6t owners who are chasing additional power. With any luck this package ( new PHASE I ) will be available in limited numbers around late Feb early March.I will post info to the forum when the release is close. I guess that you have a cat back exhaust if so this will limit the power output to some extent as most of the restriction of the stock exhaust is pre cat, in fact the stock exhaust from the cat back is quite good with only 2psi back pressure . Turbo4lt I have tried all of the premium brands of fuel and beyond doubt shell optimax is the best and most consitant perfomer. The mobil works well also though the engine is more responsive on optimax ( you can feel it when even free revving the engine ) and the fuel economy is approx 40 to 50 clicks better per tank . I have not had much luck with BP premium I dont know if this is because service stations tamper with the fuel or its to do with what refinery the fuel comes from , all I know is that the STI , WRX , EVO , and XR6T detonate very easily on that type of fuel.It is possible to have a second ignition map with the UNICHIP, so if you get stuck in a remote area where there's no decent premium simply flick the switch to safer ignition map. I dont like to rely on knock sensors as they can die if working overtime trying to reduce knock and by memory the knock sensor is not cylinder specific, so if the knock sensor is working and doing its work it really hurts power and fuel economy. 8. With intercooling its always a trade off between pressure drop and charge air temperture reduction. There is much in the design of an improved intercooler and if turbo pressure is dramatically increased you get to a point where the pressure drop is massive. There's no point in fitting a less restrictive intercooler if there's no reduction to charge air temperture,as the boost pressure increases as it will so will the charge air temperture which defeats the whole objective, which is to increase power.A well designed intercooler will deliver a massive drop in charge air temperture and provide a minimal pressure drop across the entire intercooler system.Whilst on this subject there are two types of intercooler cores, bar and plate and tube and fin. The bar and plate construction is much more expensive than tube and fin types though it provides the best intercooling money can buy and when it comes to forced Induction Intercooling is the most important issue when chasing big horsepower. In addition the better the intercooling the more consitant the power will be under high load/ high RPM and high ambient conditions. The 5 speed is better than than most think, its worth filling with redline oil, I believe this really helps the shock loading on the box and I am amazed that the 5 speed in my sedan is in good shape given the pounding its had from all of the road tests to date. If push comes to shove there's always the 6speed option if all else fails. PETER APS
  10. Its most likely the hot side of the intercooler that's flaking, the factory paint cant handle the heat, VHT have a range of paint's that would be perfect for the intercooler and wont flake off. PETER APS

Falchoon Hey thanks, its difficult to know where and when to stop on some of these questions as one thought leads to another. The world of engine enhancement is becoming more complex though never boring. PETER APS
  12. Rainy It wont work on a N/A engine, the intercooler would cause a massive restriction of the incoming air flow and kill the power, with intercooling you need an air pump ( turbo or supercharger) to force the air through the cooler and then onto the inlet manifold. If you want more power look at the exhaust , cylinder head, camshaft, and engine management, these area's will provide the best increase. PETER APS
  13. CNC Well done its amazing what one can achieve if you try hard enough, if you have time could you post a picture I am interested to see where the part failed. PETER APS

Hi Frank, The entire PHASE III system is designed to be a bolt on deal which does not require any cutting of sheet metal, as we always intended this package to be a street legal affair, and registered engineer's frown upon late model cars ( with air bags ) that have sheet metal modification. In FEB 04 we will have the PHASE III system tested to prove continued compliance to ADR 79/00 if we meet these emission standards ( which is the expensive part of street legal registration) then the next step required is an engineers certificateand (cost approx $500 to 750) from there it is a low cost deal for legal road registration. The modification of engine's is now becoming a real problem in both SYDNEY and MELBOURNE as the EPA and road traffic authority are now policing and enforcing the laws in a big way. For those new to the performance enhancement scene its worth knowing that the EPA can and do force owners to remove any products from the car that may impact on engine emission's, unless you can prove continued compliance to ADR 79/00, which can be very expensive.Sorry for the long rant , when you mentioned cutting of body parts the legality sprang issue to mind. PETER APS
  15. The valve springs can be changed with the head on the block using a special tool, its a time consuming task and will take approx 5 hours to complete with the right tools, this task would be best performed by a competant mechanic. Peter APS
  16. HI OWNA, I think you most likely had a fault in your auto trans from day one, there really not that bad. I know of a number of xr6t's at quite high torque levels( its high torque which kills the drivetrain ) that are going strong, unfortunatley your auto had a problem. If the dealer refused you warranty you could lodge an application at the small claims tribunal and they will hear your case, this will cost you only your time and you might get lucky and be paid costs to cover the auto repair bill. Food for thought. PETER APS
  17. Cutsnake, The UNICHIP does not impact on any standard features on the xr6t other than allowing the tuner the scope to optimize ignition timing, air fuel ratio and turbo boost control. This is the significant benefit of the UNICHIP (and why many are trying to copy the technology ) as it leaves all of the features of the stock ford ECU operating as intended by the manufacturer. The fuel economy will be better than stock in normal cruise conditions, that is when you cruise at 60 to 120 kph. PETER APS
  18. The SS has a 4 link rear suspension and axle tramps real bad. If they use an auto xr6t my money on the t even though the SS is lighter, go the T. PETER APS
  19. VENOM XR, No problem I was just a little surprised that this was being discussed at the nats by one of APS's engineering, staff I would have preferred to keep some of our engineering work private. No harm done and its certainly an interesting project. PETER APS

Gilto, I've not yet reached GURU status, though maybe in another 15 years I will reach this milestone, thanks for your kind words. It was only a few days ago I was thinking that Rob HERROD and I are the only guys still in the industry from our days together at trade school. Its ironic that both Rob and myself are now heavily into the FORD performance, admittedly ROB has specialised in FORD cars for many years and he does qualify for GURU status. Now to your questions. The turbo timer issue has problems, they have been illegal for over 20 years this is why they are never fitted as original equipment in new cars. If your not concerned with the legality issue then the turbo timer is worthwhile and offers higher protection and extends bearing life of the turbo. I dont feel that 4.11 gears would be the go in the xr6t, not in the auto at least as the auto would change into 4 th gear during the pass and every gear change costs time. The phase III should run mid eleven's in the auto sedan, the guys from C and V in Sydney will run their auto sedan in a week or so lets wait and see the times and MPH,I am positive the times will impress. Zero to 100kph will be under 4.5 seconds for the phase III system. I dont have times for the phase I system though I think it would shave 3 to 4 tenths of the stock cars best time. Any way I hope this answers the questions to your satisfaction, let me know if you need more information. PETER APS

If your prepared to wait another 5 weeks or so we will have the plug in loom available, no need to cut or solder any wires a straight plug in deal has many advantage's. The car can be returned to stock leaving no tell tale signs of the installation. Peter APS
  22. 13.17 @ 107MPH and I got the 60ft down to 2.0. I'II speak to you next week. Mark Hi Mark, Well done on the 13.17 pass we will have you in the 12 second bracket for the next meeting, there is a bit more weight in the ute so lets give the engine tuning a little massage lift the power to 270 KW and join the 12 second club. Peter APS
  23. Yoda, The harness is a plug in loom to suit the UNICHIP computer, with this loom there's no need to cut or solder any wires to install the UNICHIP. The loom and UNICHIP can be removed at any time to return the car to original condition. Its fairly complex to manufacture we are testing the loom currently and hope to release this new product around the end of Febuary. Peter APS
  24. Brian, No problem I was a little surprised at how this thread got started, some one let the cat out of the bag this was not meant to be in the public domain. For what its worth we are developing a monster brake system for the BA for those that want the go and whoa. Good luck with your car sounds like it will be a fun thing. Peter APS
  25. 100% Your comments are spot on. There is always much that can be learnt from product development and I doubt that a 1000HP would be a practical street car though it would be a hoot for burn out comps, dyno shootouts and drag racing. Peter APR
