How Much Power Do You Want
No problem LOK II, I know you are making comments on the manifold that you have worked with. The fact is you need to do back to back testing on each manifold design to know if a new design is better than the stock design, we have done that work and know what the results are. Why anyone would change the inlet manifold on a street car xr6t at around 350Kw to 400Kw simply amazes me. Its a complete waste of time and money unless you want a different under hood appearance so that the police,EPA, and road traffic authorities can all DEFECT the car. That sounds like a well thought through engineering approach to me, NOT ! How Much Power Do You Want
LOK II, This is a complex issue, that is engine response, we tested a manifold of very similar design during our development period, and the advantage over the stock manifold was zero.More important is the performance of the entire intercooler system. I would much rather have the stock inlet manifold with the best intercooler performance in terms of air temp reduction with a very low pressure drop across the entire intercooler system ( including all of the intercooler plumbing ) than a modified top half of an inlet manifold with less effective intercooler performance. This in essence is what I believe is the difference between between the two approaches, and improved engine response with high torque and power is best served by awesome intercooler performance (as described earlier) combined with low exhaust back pressure and optimized ignition and air fuel mixtures. To promote a 350Kw upgrade which utilises the stock exhaust system at very high back pressure is in my view nearly an insult to xr6t customers, and demonstrates a lack of caring for customers. Any competent development engineer from a turbo charger background would be horrified as they know and understand the consequences of continued high exhaust back pressure and the elevated thermal loads on the engine. How Much Power Do You Want
G'day Frank, We continue to push the envelope in terms of best bang for buck, and the larger air cleaner package( designed for the PHASE IV ) really helps the PHASE III system at the higher power and boost levels. We will prove continued compliance to ADR 79/00 engine emissions, and with an engineers certificate the car can be legally registered, so theres no reason you have to worry about the EPA or RTA forcing you to remove the PHASE III system from your car. We should have final pricing later this week.In addition the stock blow off valve was marginal at the higher turbo pressure so we have included a APS BOV in the PHASE III system. PETER APS

How Much Power Do You Want
Chris, The $1080 would be for the injectors only, plus installation of the injectors unichip and dyno tuning/mapping work would be another $480 approx, there is a fair amount of time to do the mapping work with the larger injectors, and auto cars take longer to map than manual cars. These prices are based on a doing a stock car, if the car has lots of other mods then the time frame will be longer and the cost higher.Your price forumla makes sense and on that basis the PHASE1 and PHASE1.5 provide the best bang for buck. There is no doubt that higher power levels cost more on the Kw per dollar basis though this has always been the case and its unlikely to change into the future. IN any event thanks for your feedback and I trust that we can assist you in the near future. PETER APS

Long Term "chip" Upgrade Survival ?
Geeseman, If a dealer looks after your car now you can continue the normal service work there, and let a specialist tuner look after the engine. In some cases the tuner may also do general service work and can accomodate your needs. PETER APS

Long Term "chip" Upgrade Survival ?
Good question twinxrs! Peter, I know that you dont set the prices of your dealers, but as a ballpark, what would I expect to pay for a tune up, given that I travel 35,000 to 40,000km a year. Paying to tune the car twice a year could get expensive. I am assuming that we are only talking an hour or so of labour for the tuner's time. Trumpy, To check fuel pressure and fuel flow and then look at the air fuel mixtures and ignition timing and make any adustments would take 1.5 to 2 hours. The price will vary from tuner tuner, I'd estimate around $250 for the entire process including b4 and after power graphs. My best guess only dont hang me if I'm incorrect and auto's take longer to tune than manual cars. PETER APS

Silverbullet, I have not looked at the N/a xr6,so I cant make any sensible comment to assist you, let me know what state you reside in and I will get you details of a tuner who could assist you. PETER APS Thanks Peter, I live in Brisbane. Cheers. Silverbullet, I'd recommend you contact C and J motorsport or Romano motors, both of these tuners could assist you, in any event its a good place to start by having a chat to the guys. PETER APS

Long Term "chip" Upgrade Survival ?
twinxrs, I thought I was finished for the day, then you throw a curve ball, thanks a lot. Any way good question now I need a bloody good answer. It is possible theoretically for what you described to occur, though currently ford dealers have limited access to the software that could alter fuel and ignition maps. I know that this has occurred on Expensive Daewoo gen 3 engines where Expensive Daewoo dealers have cleared tuners informaton (tuning data ) and the owners have been really pissed off. In the unlikely event that the dealer did download new data to the PCM (engine control unit ) the aftermarket computer no matter what BRAND would need remapping on the dyno. Whilst the above is not likely to occur, it is possible. You should ask your dealer to advise you if they make any changes to the data. The engine should be tuned every 12 months or 20,000 km, to ensure the engine is in a good state of tune. Any competent tuner will check the fuel flow and fuel pressure as standard practice and make any mapping changes to ensure correct air fuel ratios across the entire RPM and load range. PETER APS

How Much Power Do You Want
Juinor, Yeah I understand what your saying about the plumbing and air cleaner though it makes no difference to power up to approx 330Kw,I know this from our previous development work. The pictures on the APS website are now correct, we have altered the final spec on the PHASE III system and the website now reflects the correct components. The other reason why the big air cleaner is not in the PHASE II system is simply the NOISE factor. Many of our customers would not live with the induction noise of the PHASE III open style air filter for day to day driving, and we always try to cater for all of our customers needs. Thanks for your words of support the world of high performance is an interesting place to be. PETER APS

For sure other wise the engine will run very rich. The minimum you will need to do is swap over the fuel injectors and remove the second fuel pump. PETER APS

How Much Power Do You Want
No problem, I thought you would find this info interesting, there is no doubt in my mind that the unichip and injectors is the right place to start the power up process, though you need to address the exhaust over the 280Kw number. PETER APS

How Much Power Do You Want
Bossman,Its quite easy to remove the current UNICHIP from the car to return the vehicle back to stock condition, so its really up to you as to how quickly you want to get your T up to 330Kw.Either way its quite a simple procedure to remove the UNICHIP. Thanks for your support and good luck with your new T. PETER APS

How Much Power Do You Want
BIG MICK, the valve body mod does take a fair amount of R and D time and we have been working on the upgrade for 9 months now. It is a mod that any competent auto shop should be able to develop over time. None of my customers in Melbourne have had a problem with the auto that I know of after the PHASE II system install though I am not saying that there will never be a problem as the PHASE II system does generate quite high torque. How Much Power Do You Want
Like you said Peter, we all have different approaches and different opinions. I don't think Nizpro or ChipTorque's suggestion is that changing the exhaust as well as the Inlet Manifold etc. won't make power or decrease exhaust back pressure. Simply that it can be done with the standard exhaust if you couldn't stand a different exhaust note. If you do the exhaust as well as the Nizpro mods (as BCL did) you should get another 40-50kW at the wheels. The point is, with the Nizpro pipework and intercooler (it is different to the PWR unit Brian, it's crossflow) and the Inlet manifold change, the throttle response and low end torque is much better than on the standard manifold. I'm sure the forum members benefit considerably from different companies taking different approaches to tuning and upgrades. It's great that Australia has some really professional tuning companies and that we each take different approaches to performance enhancement. BTW BCL, I've had the T56 in my drive car now for almost a year. Cheers Lachlan Riddel Technical Director ChipTorque Hi Loc11 All of that is fine I am simply pointing out to forum members that high exhaust back pressure is not good for engine life and causes higher thermal loads on the engine that should be avoided like the plague. Its my view that this approach is some what irresponsible as many on this forum are not aware of the risks associated , and the engine damage that can occur prematurely. The real objective is to maximize power at sensible boost levels and to keep thermal loads to a practical safe limit. This cannot be achieved with high exhaust back pressure, you dont need to be a rocket scientist to measure this and know that the stock exhaust is not up to the task. Well I will stay with my original comments that is the stock inlet manifold will produce a better low to mid range torque curve than the modified manifold being discussed. If you think differently that's fine, the way to prove this is to do back to back tests only changing the inlet manifolds. I have been there and tried it and know what the results are. Any way good chatting with you its all good fun. PETER APS

How Much Power Do You Want
Hi BRIAN ,Well that's my opinion and we are all entitled to that. If strong low to mid range torque is required I would prefer to stay with the stock ford xr6t inlet manifold, or if chasing more torque (and we have plenty down low now) I would design the manifold for that purpose. My point is that there is little benefit if any benefit ( at around the 350 Kw level ) in changing the inlet manifold and I stand by my previous comments, the APS PHASE III system utilises the stock inlet manifold and the power/torque curves are awesome. The system might make the power you claim with the stock exhaust though with very high exhaust back pressure and I have been around turbo charged engines long enough to know the end result of this very high back pressure and the effect on engine components and engine life.In any event if owners are prepared to take the risk and run high B/P at high power levels(350 PLUS Kw) then that's their choice, all I am saying is that its very hard on engine internals and this can be avoided by installing a low restriction exhaust system. How Much Power Do You Want
EVLXR6 Thanks for your post its good to know what you would like to do to the xr6t. The PHASE II is really awesome if your budget goes that far, if not the PHASE 1.5 is a good stepping stone to the PHASE II system. I dont have any experience with the pwr cooler so I wont make any comment until I have checked the intercooler for air temp and pressure drop reductions. Good luck with your project hope you have a hoot of a time. PETER APS
