January 18, 200422 yr #1 Im just wondering if fitting an intercooler to a car without a turbo would be any benifit we all no the gains from cold air induction so why could u not take it a step further and allow it to run thru an intercooler, cooler air flow means a more dense mixture, denser mixture means bigger bang ,means more power!!!Sound good in theory

If you want more power look at the exhaust , cylinder head, camshaft, and engine management, these area's will provide the best increase.PETERAPS

There is much in the design of an improved intercooler and if turbo pressure is dramatically increased you get to a point where the pressure drop is massive. There's no point in fitting a less restrictive intercooler if there's no reduction to charge air temperture,as the boost pressure increases as it will so will the charge air temperture which defeats the whole objective, which is to increase power.A well designed intercooler will deliver a massive drop in charge air temperture and provide a minimal pressure drop across the entire intercooler system.Whilst on this subject there are two types of intercooler cores, bar and plate and tube and fin. The bar and plate construction is much more expensive than tube and fin types though it provides the best intercooling money can buy and when it comes to forced Induction Intercooling is the most important issue when chasing big horsepower. In addition the better the intercooling the more consitant the power will be under high load/ high RPM and high ambient conditions.PETER APS
