  1. Forgot to add, the reason you don't need the exhaust done at this stage is because the stock one flows enough from factory to almost see the small FG turbo to the end of it's limits. The Cat is the only restrictive part of the exhaust (Unless you have a Euro 4 spec model in which case there is a small restrictor ring found in the exhaust that reduces flow enough that the Cat heats up faster. Removing this also helps flow)
  2. I'm actually doing a similar thing with my turbo but for $2,500 I think you' be better off with the following High Flow Cat (Venom direct bolt in) - $500 (Less if you just buy the cat and have someone weld it in for you cheaply) Intercooler piping - $500 from Coolerworx (The factory piping typically blows out beyond about 12 to 13 PSI) Injectors - $400 for something like some Bosch 968's or Siemens Decka 60' Tune - $1,100 (Mick from Pitlane Performance is always helping people on this forum out so he'd be the guru to go see. Not sure on their prices though) That should see you on your way to close to 300rwkw or so. Tune might be more depending on tuner however so if you have to stretch it another few hundred it'd be well worth it. Cheers
  3. Thanks Senna, I knew someone on here would know. Who needs Google when it comes to cars :good:
  4. Hi Guys, I have just ordered some new shocks to go with the SSL king springs I have in the shed and came across this listing on eBay. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Ford-Falcon-BA-BF-FG-SUPER-PRO-Rear-Spring-Insulators?item=300839664171&cmd=ViewItem&_trksid=p5197.m7&_trkparms=algo%3DLVI%26itu%3DUCI%26otn%3D2%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D4934754758383233127#ht_638wt_1163 Can anyone tell me what the hell a spring insulator is and if they are a good way to minimise suspension noise. I've tried googling it but can't find anywhere that actually says what they do.
  5. Thanks for the info Ratter, I vaguely remember someone saying something about using washers in another post but I'd rather use a proper aftermarket spacer if I can. Does anyone know where I could buy these ? I'm not sure on the AFR's but basically whatever is considered safe for year round operation using the stock fuel pump
  6. Hi Guys, I currently have in my possession the below injectors. As far as I know they are Bosch 968's but what I don't know is if they are the correct length or if they have the correct connector for my 2009 G6E Turbo. I am planning on combining them with the following: 1. PWR Stepped intercooler 2. Herrod piping kit 3. High flow cat 4. SCT unit and custom tune From my research the injectors along with these mods should see me into the 310 to 320 rwkw range. Can anyone please quickly confirm that my estimates are correct ? FYI This will pretty much be as far as I go power wise as I'm not chasing anything above 330 rwkw where the Little FG turbo runs out of puff and have nowhere near enough United E85 near me to justify an E85 tune so I don't need the extra injector capacity, just whatever will max out my current turbocharger. Cheers
  7. I have the 452's on my stock G6E Turbo atm and while they have great grip in summer it drops off in winter. Great to drive with them in the wet, makes you feel safe and in control of the car. Two biggest drawbacks are that the rears are pretty much going to need replacing soon after about 12,000 kms on them and when you're doing 110 Km/h + on the freeway they are very noisy. Perfectly quiet around town but yeah, after an hour and a half on the freeway and your ears are ringing from the constant noise. Going to try the Nitto Invo's next I think
  8. I had the exact same problem in my 2002 BA Fairmont. I kept having to disconnect the connector to the fan so that I wouldn't have a flat battery in the morning. I replaced the centrifugal fan unit just under the passenger side glovebox (extremely easy) and it was fine after that. I tested all the fuses and relays and they were all working properly so as far as I can tell the fan obviously has more in it than just a 3 wire PWM connector and electric motor. The other symptom I had was that on startup 75% of the time the fan would be fine and then go flat out anywhere between 5 to 30 minutes later and the other 25% it just started flat out. I didn't have to touch the HIM module at all. Cost me around $120 from memory (It was a while ago). Might be worth checking a wreckers for a cheapie fan unit just to test if you can get it for a good price.
  9. I'm not sure, I was wondering the same thing. I'll give em a ring on Monday to find out
  10. http://www.fordaustraliaforums.com/forum/showthread.php?48120-How-to-remove-and-dismantle-a-FG-ICC-unit.&p=387188#post387188 Link to the AFF post if anyone is curious
  11. http://www.aslautomedia.com.au/Products/Facia.html This is exactly what I was looking for :-) Thanks heaps for the help guys and I'll have a hunt around on AFF for a write-up
  12. The answer according to Ford Parts is a resounding no. Apparently the plastic is integrated with the entire ICC and for a cool $4,800 I can get a new one. I think I'll just try some polish. Anyone tried Meguiars Scratch X on something like black glossy plastic ?
  13. Hi Guys, I've recently received my G6E Turbo back from the smash repairer after an unfortunate incident and one of the guys obviously loves to touch shiny surfaces and has left permanent finger prints on the surrounding plastic of the LCD screen. I've tried everything I know of to try and remove the marks but they just won't come off. I CBF going through all the hassle of talking to the insurer to get the repairer to fix it because I think that it would be a monumental fight that would cost me time and hair off my head that I can't afford. So my question is, does anyone know if the Black surrounding plastic (shown below) can be replaced at all ?
  14. They are some stunning pictures you have taken there PLAYRZ, can I ask what camera and lens you used to take the shots, they are magnificently sharp.
  15. How far out was the temp for you guys? Mine was initially out by about 8 degree's or so and after they replaced it it is still out by about 4 degree's (Pretty much consistently 4 out from 0 degrees all the way through to 40). Kinda annoys me because the one in my old BA Fairmont was spot on........oh what a great deal of progress that 8 years made
  16. If I was you I'd be pissed too. The premium on that vehicle would take into account the higher cost of repairs and replacement. I'm not sure about Mercedes but BMW include roadside assistance as part of the vehicle purchase price so as far as I would be concerned I've paid for a service then I should damn well be able to use it without feeling like I'm asking if I can go out and shoot someone. It surprises me that AAMI comes under the same banner as the other insurers as I have had nothing but good dealings with AAMI whether it was replacing a windscreen to when our home got broken into. Fair enough that there is a claims process to follow but at the end of the day they chose the cheap option to repair instead of replace which then causes a flow on effect of inconvenience to their customer. If I was them I would be bending over backwards to keep said customer as there has already been a payout so I now need to keep that customer as long as possible to recoup the costs I've just incurred. Fair enough too if the repairer has informed the insurance company of changes to any schedules but obviously the insurance company is failing in it's communication procedures by not giving you a call. If there is one thing I know it's that a customer would prefer to be called and told bad news than to be not called at all. A change in insurance companies would certainly send the message that their performance in this case has been pretty poor and that maybe they should change their policies and procedures to retain their customers. Just my 2c on the matter
  17. I think that the Ecoboost 4 banger is a great concept. As others have said, you present the argument of lower fuel costs for very close to the same performance to the average buyer then they are going to really consider it (Personally I see it as trying to compete with the 4cyl Camry). When my parents go out to buy a car they are WAY more concerned with ongoing running costs rather than if it can do the 0-100 sprint faster than the guy in the car next to them Where everything for ford really falls down is the marketing side of things. How many average people on the street even know about these options for the Falcon. Hell, how many of these people even WANT to buy a falcon ? Expensive Daewoo absolutely smack the pants off Ford when it comes to promoting their products. So many people out there who aren't loyal to one brand or another would take the Late model camira any day because Expensive Daewoo nail them with advertisements saying how good they are. Although I think the concept is a great idea I think they should have released the engine with a new model. Then the marketing teams could have gone nuts with the propaganda to promote the new platform and could have marketed all the pretty "Green" numbers while keeping a nice little * down in the bottom saying "For ecoboost engine only" (Even though I know that the new platform is not due out for at least another 3 years if at all). I recon the Turbo 4 will feel pretty reasonable for a base model car when coupled with the ZF, plenty of gears to keep in on torque.
  18. I went with Falken 452's in 245/35/19 and they were a massive improvement over the factory Dunlops. Very very good grip for the price, got them wholesale for $280 a corner and really can't complain. Noise isn't exactly the best in the world but is far from the worst. I think you're going to get plenty of noise from a low profile tyre no matter what the brand. I have only had them for about 4,000 k's and they are wearing quite nicely and were my only other choice apart from the F1's
  19. Kloster Ford are the biggest bunch of thieving Bas@@#&s I have ever had the mispleasure of dealing with. EVERY single time I have taken my cars to them (First my BA Fairmont, then my Work BF Wagon and finally my G6ET) I have had to bring it back because whatever I took it in for was not properly fixed. I have never had a good story from them ranging from my parents receiving their new BA Futura back with a cigarette burn in the rear passengers footwell (Despite no one in my family ever having smoked) to my Girlfriend taking her 2006 Fiesta in for overheating issues and each of the 3 times they "Fixed" it, the thing cooked itself and had the engine replaced (Took an auto electrician literally 15 minutes to look over the wiring diagram to discover that the plugs going to the radiator temp sensor and the fan were the same connector and had been connected the wrong way around). I read these two posts and couldn't help but feel the anger welling up inside and so wanted to post to let these two know I feel their pain !!
  20. I have also been thinking about this lately and 2 main things come to mind from my computing background. 1. The resolution of the new screen would have to match that of the old screen otherwise it would look like crap (LCD panels have a native resolution and if you don't use it then whatever is driving the signal would have to approximate what it should look like and it ends up blurry) 2. Would there even be an input for the "touch" portion of the screen. Even if there was (Which is doubtful given that even the Sat Nav optioned cars don't have touch capabilities) the hidden head unit driving the whole thing would have to understand what those inputs were. The only way it would seem possible is if you transplanted the entire centre unit from a MK2 into a MK1 and not just the screen. It looks like the only change to physical dimensions on the MK2 for the centre section is that the screen area goes higher than in the MK1. Would love to know how this pans out as this is probably the only thing I would want to do to my G6E Turbo that brings me into line with the MK2
  21. Just thought I'd throw my 2c out there. Replaced all 4 OEM Dunlops on my G6E Turbo with some Falken 452's (245/35/19) and the difference is remarkable. Grip in the dry is improved but grip in the wet is just superb compared to the Dunlops. In the wet the Dunlops felt twitchy as though the car just wanted to trow itself sideways anytime just for the hell of it. I actually feel like I'm in control with the Falkens. I managed to score them for $290 each fitted and I'm pretty happy I did. This is only my second set of tyres on the car so I don't have a wealth of experience but to say the Falkens over the Dunlops was night and day is an understatement
  22. Thanks guys, if I do end up taking it to Sydney instead what are people's choices for a quality tune shop ?
  23. Hi Guys, Just bought myself a 2009 G6E Turbo and after owning it for all of 20 days just can't seem to shake the need to throw a tune at this car after reading all the posts on here. I'm located in Newcastle and wouldn't mind one of the X3 flash units but I want someone to do a proper tune on it rather than just a generic tune. I'm also interested in upgrading the injectors to get me to minimum of 280rwk so anyone know any good tuners that live in the Newcastle/Maitland area ?
