  1. Ah yes! Junior Burger! Happy birthday mate. Told you I'm an old fart. Still looking for anybody with a FULL RACE on VHS as I can only find 10 min snippets on Youtube. Am I looking in the wrong places? PAH
  2. Because I am an OLD FART! That's the trouble with you young blokes - you think only Gen Y likes the XR6T ;-) Thanks mate - I will check it out. Let me give the Panasonic DVD Recorder (DMR-BWT720) a plug. Not only can it tape 2 FTA programs at once, you can hook up your old VCR and convert old taped programs to digital. PAH
  3. Hi Guys, Anybody got VHS tapes of an F1 race or two where Ayrton Senna wins? I'd be interested to hear from you. PAH
  4. Hi Guys, This is obviously a TOP IDEA. NEVER doubt the ability of a small party to influence decisions for the benefit of their fraternity. You've heard of the Shooter's Party? They swayed the NSW Govt in favour of feral pest control on government land. This is the Shooter's Party quoting the NSW Govt: "Volunteer hunters have been working in our State forests for a number of years—without any serious incident or accidents—and have shot thousands of feral animals, providing an enormous boost to conservation efforts in relation to native wildlife" http://www.shootersandfishers.org.au/news/hunting-in-national-parks Without representation we could see ourselves lose the right to change wheels, suspensions, exhausts etc. We're surrounded by bleeding heart air head do gooders who are anti any activity that is vaguely blokey. Haven't you noticed? But AMEP - where's your web site? I can't find it. PAH
  5. Thanks Old Mate, $1500 seems OK for a GTX. The fiddles to hook it up will add to costs. PAH
  6. Thanks for the info guys. How much is a GTX3582? Is it a Garrett? BJC - is the 0.50 housing available as a separate part that can be fitted to my existing turbo? And does that make it equal to an F6 turbo? Thanks. PAH
  7. Thanks BJC, Yes it's an XR6T not an F6. What are the easy turbo upgrade options? Correct any bad info below please: * The FG F6 turbo is bigger. * The FG F6 turbo is the same as the BF XR6T Turbo. * A BF XR6T turbo from a wrecker (after reco) would be a sensible OK option. PAH
  8. Hi Guys, My FG has an upgraded dump pipe and cat. From the cat back, the exhaust is standard FG. If I upgrade the rest of the exhaust, will this make much difference? If so, how much in kw? I am not too sure about removing a muffler. The major worry is making the car sound like a tractor or a cop magnet. Something a bit softer than a BMW M3 would be OK. Any advice? I'm already running bigger injectors. Any obvious mods I should consider? PAH

    Thanks mate.
  10. Hi Guys, I am looking for the Oil Pressue light among the instruments on my FG XR6T. As I could not find it with the ignition on and the engine not running, I looked through the Owner's Manual where it is mentioned but it is NOT illustrated in the diagram. Anybody else noticied a lack of oil pressure light? Can anybody tell me where to look? PAH
  11. Thanks Bionic. That's sad news. The car is a manual. Once fixed, it stays fixed? Or is it a recurring problem? Also I read in another thread the high boost levels increase blow-by increasing oil leak problems. Could this problem be related? And how can blow-by be reduced? Is there a method to help crankcase ventilation? Not required? PAH
  12. Hi Guys, It looks like my FG XR6T has an oil leak near the timing chain cover or the harmonic balancer pulley area. A few questions: Is this a common problem? Is the fix easy enough for an owner to do at home? If it's best to go to a mechanic, how much (ball park) to fix it? Thanks. PAH
  13. Hi Guys, I dropped in to Wholesale Suspension on Coreen Ave Penrith yesterday to get them to look at my FG XR6T. Josh and Matt looked after me. They spent 2 hours going over my car. They had it up on their hoists. They reported on the condition of the suspension. They kept me fully informed every step of the way. They invited me under the car to illustrate points. After they'd finished, I pulled out my credit card to pay them. And they said - NO CHARGE!! Just keep us in mind when you need some work done. Now that deserves a good plug!! PAH
  14. Hi Paulie, I am interested. So what are the issues with the auto? PAH
  15. That's what I've got in the diff bush. They're Super Pro in the training arms and I think they're the comfort option. Big purple bushes with flats on the edges. If you guys are running these without vibrations at around 100kmh, maybe I had better double check the tail shaft and tyres? The bushes might be OK. I might be putting 2 + 2 together and coming up with 5?? PAH
  16. Hi Guys, I regret buying the XR6T Manual because it has more transmission clunks than an auto. If I'd known that at the time, I would have gone for the nice ZF auto as used in Euro gems like BMW's. The Muttering Rotters say that the auto XR6T is faster. Does it have any down-sides? I had my manual gearbox and diff shimmed by Mal Wood to reduce the driveline shunt. I understand that the torque convertor in the auto masks the shunt problem. True? PAH
  17. Hi Guys, I guess we've all chopped out the factory diff and rear trailing arm bushes in our XR6T's at 40k clicks or earlier. I've been in rental XR6's (no turbo of course) that have bush symptoms. What hope do they have with turbo torque, let alone the torque of a tweaked turbo? I am running urethane diff and trailing arm bushes. The diff bushes went in first, then the training arm bushes earlier this year. I was told by a guy who would no that urethane traling arm bushes tend to produce vibes at around 100 kmh and his warning seems to be correct. The car now has what sounds like an out of balance tail shaft or an out of round tyre at 100kmh. This problem became apparent after the trailing arm bushes. It was OK with just the diff bushes. So what are the options? I hear that Pedders have just released an after market kit. I wonder what that's like? Shirley (apologies to Ted Striker) the 335kw FPV supercharged V8 must have beefed up rear end bushes? If not, how long do the factory bushes last in these cars? If they are beefed up, will they fit into an XR6T?? PAH
  18. Hi Guys, The demister in my 2008 XR6T is not working. Turn on the demister and air blows out of the face vents full blast. shut the face vents and I can hear what sounds like the air fighting against a shut demister vent. I assume that the ducting for the various outlets is controlled by vacuum. Am I correct? Has anybodsy else experienced this problem and what's the cure? Is it a job that can be fixed at home or does it require a specialist? Do any of the Co's that advertise on this site know how to fix the problem? Also - the outside air temp indicator seems to have gone NUTS. It's registering 5 degrees. I know it's not been the warmest summer, but it has not been anywhere near that cool. PAH

Why Castrol Edge and not Mobil 1? I am not knocking Castrol Edge if it is a Group 4 Synthetic (I think it might be). I believe that Mobil 1 is a Group 4 Synthetic. Not all oils advertised as Synthetic are Group 4. It's my understanding that Group 3 Synthetics are really mineral oils that have been put through extra refinement. It's also my understanding that mineral oil is made multigrade by adding viscosity modifying additives to thin oil. When these additives break down, the oil turns into a mono grade and that grade is the thin oil pre additives. So if you're using a 5W-40 mineral oil and the viscosity modifying additives have broken down, you are running on a 5W oil. This of course will not be very protective, especially NOT for hot turbo engines in hot weather. My research indicates that Group 4 Synthetics are better able to avoid this problem. Some car makers have extended oil change intervals to around 20,000kms or more. I think they rely on Group 4 oils to do this. My thinking is based upon info from this web site. Check it out to see if my understanding is correct: http://www.upmpg.com/tech_articles/motoroil_viscosity/index.html Here's a quote from this doc: Group IV (4) base oils (synthetics) are chemically made from uniform molecules with no paraffin and don't need Viscosity Additives. However, in recent years Group III (3) based oils have been labeled "synthetic" through a legal loophole. These are petroleum based Group II (2) oils that have had the sulfur refined out making them more pure and longer lasting. Group III (3) "synthetic" motor oils must employ Viscosity Additives being petroleum based. I am running my Mobil 1 for 10k between changes but I could probably extend this I suspect. PAH
  20. KVBABY, I have to protest at your HSV slur. DO SOME RESEARCH MATE!! HSV stands for Herpes Simplex Virus. I learned this the hard way. I did a Google Image Search for HSV. PAH
  21. Yes Mal Wood is the Tremec Agent. I think he can ship a box to your mechanic for installation. Mal tightened up the Tremec 6060 in my FG to reduce gearbox rattle and rollover noise. I drove up from Sydney to get the work done. If I buy another XR6T, IT WILL DEFINITELY be a ZF 6 speed auto. The auto does not have rollover noise. It does not have Seppo quality issues as it is made in Europe. I think the XR5T is quicker as an auto. And the torque convertor masks any other play in the transmission (diff and CV's etc). PAH
  22. Hi Guys, I've had 3 or 4 FG XR6 rental cars (NA of course) for use in Melbourne and Brisbane suburbs to and from work. They always seem to sit somewhere in the 11L / 100 kms range. My FG XR6T used to sit around 13L / 100 kms. Now that I've had a tune from Autotech at Grabville, it's also in the 11L / 100 kms range around Sydney. It's got more grunt too. I am obviously not going nuts to achieve this level of economy. It's hard to go nuts these days. I was lasered twice by the cops on the same section of road on two consecutive days! Using a rat run to avoid Carlingford Rd. Anyway, I am very happy with Autotech and would recommend them. PAH
  23. Hi Guys, I just noticed. Ford is updating the guts of the ZF 6 speed auto for the Coyote V8. Check this out: "The six-speed ZF 6HP26 automatic gets upgrades to its clutch pack and gearset to improve torque capacity. The final drive, too, has been upgraded to handle more torque, although its ratio remains unchanged." FPV Reveals Details Of All-New Miami V8 Range For GS and GT | Reviews | Prices | Australian specifications These innards will no doubt make their way into some of the ZF boxes behind XR6T's?? PAH PS: Thanks for the underwhelming responses to my question re the factory FG diff bush upgrade - nobody knows??
  24. Hi Guys, I noted in the thread below that a new diff bush for the FG XR6T is on the way. Is it available now as a spare part? Is it only available from FPV dealers? What's the Part No? http://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=69548 Thanks. PAH
  25. Hi Guys, I posted a WTB advert today and came back to check it 15 mins after posting. It was still there then. 7.30pm tonight it's gone. Having noticed that I had listed an email address cancelled by Telstra, I tried updating to a new email address. Your system tells me it is already in use. That seems unlikely as I have never listed it on this forum. Tried another email address with the same results. * How do I update my email address? * Is there an issue with the WTB advert I listed? Thanks PAH
