  6. this is the response that I got from Ford after email and ringing them Dear Steve Thank you for your email to Ford Motor Company of Australia Limited (Ford Australia). Ford Australia has a long history of supporting motorsport in Australia and this support continues. As part of a strategic realignment of our motorsport investment, we announced more than 12 months ago that we would concentrate the bulk of our motorsport sponsorship around two key teams - FPR and SBR from the start of the 2009 year onwards. We also continue to provide in-kind support to other teams driving Ford cars. Our sponsorship of Craig Lowndes continues until the end of 2009. The decision by Triple 8 to move to GM from 2010 onwards will mean our direct sponsorship of Craig will cease at that time. We have enjoyed a very positive relationship with Craig throughout his years with Ford and look forward to continuing that throughout the rest of 2009. Thank you for taking the time to write to Ford Australia. 10. Just thought I would add to this post as I do have a fair bit of knowledge about HID's. I have been importing and selling Hid's for the last 5-6 years. It is my business and it is all I do, we sell on average 150 kits / month and it is my passion. I hope I can help you make informed decissions. The original photo posted is a H4 hi/lo kit so it is designed to run halogen on low beam and HID on high beam or vice/versa depending on the wiring. It is designed for a single headlight application it is not actually meant to be parklight and is usually a 55 - 60w globe. (it is not required for dual headlight as in the case of the xr's. That said it is a H4 globe and does still work if you remove the halogen bulb, or if you wire up the halogen on high beam it will turn on with the high beam when the hid low heam turns off. the XR runs a H4 in the outers and a H7 in the inners so you only need a single beam kit. (And reversed for the FG). With the kits we supply there should be no need for any rewiring (they are straight plug & play) and we even have a single ballast option that can run the 2 globes at once, without the need for any rewiring. Generally regarding HID's. They run much cooler than halogen appox. 30% They draw fewer amps. (our 35w kits on start up draw 8 - 10 amps / globe with a running draw of 3.2 - 3.4 amps). We have custom made 160w HID kits that still only draw up to 45amps per unit on startup. The brightness of the light output increases untill you reach about 4800k - 5000k. After that the colour increases in blueness but the actual light output decreases. A 6000k globe puts our 12% - 15% less lumens of light than a 5000K globe. The start up time for HID's is not instantaneous, but our kits have reached 90% of their light output in 3 seconds and full brightness in 6 seconds. If you can keep low beam on when high beam is turned on all the better. The longer the lights are on the less time they will take to heat up. If they are takeing more than 10 secs to warm up to full intensity there is something wrong. There is no burn in time for HID's so if you are getting a flicker there is something wrong (either in the wiring or a faulty kit.) If it is a decent quality kit turning you hid's on and off will not hurt them so you flick from high to low as many times as you want. A Hid globe will last approx 2000 hrs (compared to 400 hrs for halogen) so generally a hid kit should last for the life of the vehicle. for the photo go to the group buy from Senna-t hope this helps Steve

  14. we guy just got back from the dyno just now and got a big shock with the V8 air box we made 226.8rwkw then we fitted the standed air box and made 233.1rwkw so we did 4 more power runs with both boxs and they stay the all but the same then we look at the snorkel and found that the mesh in the lower part of the snorkel was drawing hot air from the fans we tape it up and did a few more power run and the power came up to 236.9 so we gain about 4rwkw we did not get any were near 11rwkw Steve

  17. Hi all would any body be interested in a dyno day? I run a motoring radio program on the Mornington Peninsula and one of our major sponsors is Peninsula Per4mance at Mornington. If we get enough interest they will be happy to open their doors one day on a weekend for us to go down and have a run on the dyno for a comparatively cheap fee. We may be able to organize prizes and food for sale as well. This offer will be open to anybody not just xr6 turbos, it is a 4wd dyno so all wheel drives and 4wd's are also welcome. Post your interest and I will start to organize a day and time. Steve
  18. hi all just to let you know what we got out of the new FG XR6T 6 speed manual on our holiday out of a tank we left home ( somerville) and headed up to merimbula about 520km away we used 48 lts of BP 98 not that bad me thinks and I just fill back up to day and put 63lts and we had done 690km . I used cruise most of the way set at 105 and 115km/h as the boy in blue were out in force.Today with a trip to the city and a full tank with around trip of 140km the avg was 10lts the car now has 1800km on it steve
  19. the same thing happen to our ba xr8 it was the mixer shaft cost of repair from ford about $1500 so we traded it on a new FGXR6T Steve
  20. I'm not suprised you get attention with 10000k. They would be almost purple in colour. It is only the low beam that is goverend by ADR rules. You are permitted to change your auxilliary lighting which includes the high beam. I have imported and sold HId's for about the last 5 years and have have done a lot of research on the rules and regulations (although they do vary from state to state). Providing your lighting is independently switched and can be turned on and off independently of the low beam you can make whatever mods you like. If you have a single globe which moves in and out for hi/lo, you have hid on both high and low beam (the focal point is moved to project the light further). Personally we won't use or recommend the mechanical type as our past experience has shown them to fail (about 90% of the time eventually). Although if you don't use high beam much it probably won't be a problem. Steve
  21. Yes I have done a new FG GTP for a customer. We did a 70w hi/low kit to replace the H4 globe and then a H7 for the spotligts and a H11 for the fog light both in 35w. All up the car has 6 ballast 4 of them are silm line about 8mm high 50mm wide and 60mm long the one for the H4 is about the size of a pack of smoke that run 2 globes. The H4's are a dual filament globe. When you are on low one filament works but when you go to high both filaments work both globes are HID. All up time to fit was about 5.5 hrs Here are some photo of the ballast and globe all the globe are UV cut glass ( that stop you lens going yellow ) the big advantages of a hid globe is they run at about 1/4 of the heat of a halogen globe very low power cosumption ie 35w hid uses about 3.2 amps per globe and yes you can turn them on and off as much as you like and there is No burn in time. Your globe will be at 85% of power with in 3/5 sec of start up and with the dual filament because one stays on all the time there is no split seconds of darkness as the hid warms up. hope this helps steve

    New Members Thread

Hi all, Am new to this forum, just bought a new Fg Xr6t manual in Dash 2 days before Xmas (upgrade from the BA XR8) I am a ford man through and through I run a local (Mornington Penininsula) radio program on Friday nights and have had people ring the station to complain about the Ford Bias (hey it's my show) I own and run a HID and vehicle lighting importing business (haven't done the FG yet but if you want any lighting facts please feel free to contact me) and am also a keen 4wd enthusiast. The deisel 4wd is turbo intercooled but lacks the pace and the handling of the new Falcon. Looking forward to haveing a good browse of the forum over the weekend and picking up a few tips, and mabey even giving a few back. Steve
