XR6 Sound System Change Over
Matty, Not a problem with the system, I took out the factory amp and replaced with a larger unit to run my 15" sub. I was suprised to find that the factory amp did not control my speakers at all, all it did was the factory sub. Further more, I used a speaker cable to rca convertor for my amp conections and there she goes. Personally, I havent played with the std speakers as of yet because they still do what I need them to do, so I cant comment much on that. Regz Dean

Exhaust System Results
Yeap that's right, only the rear muffler is fitted at the moment. This is borderline though, in really cold nights it would still cut out under high rev/hard acceleration. What I found though, I had to replace the battery couple days ago as my car was left with the ignition on for 2 weeks, the battery had absolutely NOTHING left in it. Since then, ive found that it no longer cuts out even on really cold nights. I wonder if the std computer has adapter after its been reset (im asuming 2 weeks of no power would reset the computer). For most people who are not planning future mods on their T's, I would suggest using a mid muffler and rear muffler. That will keep noise down if you want to keep it legal AND there is no problems with cutting out. The only reason I did mine this way was because the car is booked in for a Phase 1 kit, so I needed something free flowing. If any of you guys (from sydney) are interested in exhausts, let me know because at this stage a very large exhaust manufacturer is starting to mass produce the kit that we have developed. My mate who owns an exhaust shop is working on pricing for the system and it should be available in the next month and a half or so. Either way, ill keep you all posted and let you know how the progress comes along. JB, ill keep you posted on how the car performs on the dyno when I get my phase I kit installed....the car is booked in 2 months from now. Ill get the dyno reading before (which will confirm/cross reference my current readings) and after. Regz Dean

Exhaust System Results
LOL im still suprised you like the sound of the exhaust, I honestly thought you would say its too loud  ms700, speaking to the dyno operators, they seem to think its a combination of booth overboost and running lean. Just before it cut out we did find the car started running lean. Unfortunately I dont have any more information on that. Hope all this info help those of you who are decided what sort of exhaust to fit to your car. PS I should also mention, that this configuration is fairly loud. For those of you who want to keep noise to a limit you would definately have to add some sort of middle muffler. Regz Dean

Exhaust System Results
thebrunks, from what I have seen, I dont think the standard computer will allow that. If you have a look at my last dyno graph, that was taken with nothing but a rear (small) muffler. What I found on the dyno was not only that the boost was all over the place (like you can see by the squigly line) but also that just as the car cut out, it started running a touch lean. Speaking to the dyno operators, they felt that if the car didnt cut out, I may have hit around the 220 rwkw mark (juding by the rate at which the curve was going)

Exhaust System Results
Ok guys, I have posted bits and peices of information in various threads on the forums about exhaust systems, so ive decided that ill start a new thread and post all my findings including some dyno sheets. There has been a bit of discussion about 3" systems and their efficiency, but I have personally found that a 3" system worked better on my car then a dual 2.5" system. Ok, a bit of history on the car, the car is a Aug 03 build Manual T. On my very first dyno run, the car achieved 202.5 rwkw with nothing but a K&N air filter and GFB BOV fitted (all else was stock). Here is the stock dyno sheet. Now I should also mention, that all my dyno's where done on saturdays and I tried to keep them around about the same time in the afternoon, which was apprx 12.30 - 1pm. Once the stock reading has been established, we started to play with the exhaust, starting with the usual perception - bigger = more power, so I had a cat back dual 2.5" system fitted including both the front and rear mufflers - the front mufflers being straight through offcourse - (as you all know the standard system is dual 2 1/4"). Believe it or not, with this system I actually lost a bit of power, the car went down from 202.5 to 201.3rwkw. This isnt a large sum, and as far as I know it could have been the temp, moisture, whatever, but at very best, its is safe to say that the car gained NOTHING. Next on the agenda we went for a std jap car turbo setup, which is a 3" system. The system fitted was again cat back with both a front and rear muffler. This system did gain a bit of power taking me up to a total of 203.7 rwkw. This exhaust was fairly quiet and produced a minimal power increase, almost not worth the time......testing continues. After reading alot of information on these forums about removing the centre muffler and so on, I figured the next logical step was to remove the centre muffler and see how the car performed. So I did this and found that the car did gain yet another minimal amount of power upping the total to 205.3 rwkw. With the centre muffler removed and only a small increase of power, I figured that there must still be a restriction somewhere, and it must have been at the front (between the dump pipe and cat)......again, testing continues. Considering the above results, I figured that the cat would be a restriction on the system, as I know the T already has a 3" dump pipe. So what I did next was remove the front of the exhaust (just after the dump pipe) to the cat (and including the cat). Interestingly I found that the standard system went from the dump pipe, single pipe into the cat, twin exits from the cat into a dual system. We thought that this was what caused the restriction to the rest of the system so replaced that whole section with a high flow cat and single 3" pipe (making the whole system 3" single). Putting the car on the dyno, I was amazed by the results, I found that my power jumped from a minimal 205.3 up to 213.6rwkw. What a great power increase from nothing but an exhaust. Im looking forward to see how much power the car will gain when I put an APS phase 1 kit on it Please Note: Some of you may notice that the last dyno sheet has 2 readings on it. The Red line on the dyno graph represents the power increase with the whole front section of the exhaust taken off (after the dump pipe to just after the cat). Without the cat in the car you can see that the boost levels are all over the place and that eventually the standard computer cut the power to the car. I believe that a free'er flowing exhaust for the standart T can only be achieved with the addition of a piggy back computer system. NOTE that the car was not driven without the cat convertor, it was only dynod with that configuration for testing purposes. Once tested the hi flow cat was added to the system bringing us to the final configuration.

3" Exhaust
not the case, you should do some searches on some of my previous exhaust posts, I have spend lots of time testing various exhausts, and to cut the story short: std exhaust = 202.5rwkw (my car std) 3" exhaust system = 213.6rwkw So id say no, 3" is not worse then the standard one (and I have all the dyno sheets to prove it)

Shahin Lowered!
finally, you've joined the club LOL. that's the best 250 bucks you've spend on your car since the APS kit.......dam, it looks awsome........ I was kinda worried before they settled, thought it wouldnt be low enough, but they turned out awsome after a wrap around the block. Cheese, as GJ mentioned the springs are from Whiteline, they are the control series springs. Take a look at http://www.whiteline.com.au/ You should be able to find contact details there also, Whiteline is situated at Minto and they sell direct.

Cat Removal for drags?
Eugene, During my R&D for an exhaust system I did put the car on the dyno without a cat for testing purposes. With the cat installed the boost started at 6 psi, leveled out to 5 then 4psi at higher revs. The boost line was nice and smooth. With no cat however, the boost graph was in the shape of a zig zag, hitting a max of 9psi. As soon as 9psi hit, we found the not only did the power cut, but just before the power cut the car started to lean out. Basically, with no engine management system fitted, your wasting your time, the car will cut out anywhere between 4 - 5000rpm, so you wont get the full rev range. Anyway, that's just what I found, im pretty sure other people may have come across different results

Exhaust Confusion
Im not using either, I tested and developed my own exhaust system through a local exhaust shop that my mate owns......I went form 202.5 up to 213.6rwkw and have dyno sheets to prove it. The exhaust system is 3" single and is more then enough on a stock car, so unless your thinking of increasing your power to the levels that xarh6turbo has then you wont need a system as large as his. If you are interested in more information, PM me and we can discuss this further. PS, I know your question was specific to these 2 brands and im sure they are just as good as each other for a premium. It all comes down to what your future plans are for the car and for what reason your fitting an exhaust. Im actually looking into Titanium at the moment.

Curfews for P Platers?
Power to weight ratio's Stop it your killing me! Apparently there is that rule in Vic, somewhere, sometime ago, never seen it enforced though. There are P platers getting around in everything you can imagine, GTR's, 180sx's, V8's and so on. But they are not to blame. I agree with Redhwk and Vik, proper driver training, I put myself through it when I got my licence, I believe it should be mandatory. These days driving instructors teach how to pass a test, not drive a car. We should have some form of tiered system against what pwr car you can drive against what course you have done, same as truck drivers. It's not the P platers that are at fault, it is a lack of driver training and knowlegde. There are as many bad P platers out there as there is any other driver on the road, they just get segregated as they are easily indentifiable. JB , I agree with the majority of your post re training but particularly a focus on education. It is critical that drivers truly understand the capabilities and limititations of their vehicles in a controlled environment, but young drivers also need to have top of mind what can happen when things go wrong. Practical Driver training MUST go hand in hand with education.Otherwise we end up with a load of overconfident too fast too furious P platers blatting around on public roads Additionally IMO these attributes should be tested at least every 5-7 years to weed out the other incompetent and complacent fools out there. A licence is a privelige not a right , and the appropriate rigour of ongoing compliance to both practical and theortical expertise needs to be demonstrated by all drivers My 2.2 cents Agree with your sentiments WT. I did a refresher course a couple of years ago and there was a girl who was sent along by her parents, as she had just gained her licence in previous weeks. She lasted the first exercise in where you had to accelerate to 60k and when told to brake swerve and pull up missing all the cones in the process. Before she even got in the car she was in tears and refused to do it. The instructor demonstrated with a car, still she would not do it. He then demonstrated with her car on how easy it was. Yet agin she just cried. He then put her in the passenger seat and did it again this time reaching down with his hand to apply the brake! This particular girl did not end up completeing any more of the day as she was just balling her eyes out as she was too scared to emergency brake and swerve. Yet she manged to obtain a licence? This was in a controled environment, so what the hell happens when she is out on the actual road with other drivers, poles and pedestrians? We could not get over the fact that she would not do it yet was happy to get in the car and drive on the main roads, so who will she end up killing when a emergency situation arises. As I said people are taught to pass their test, not how to drive a car and the implications that it may present. JB, personally I think that she should have had her license revoked. This just shows the level of skill and ability of some our younger drivers......NONE!! A couple years back I put myself through a defensive driving course and I have to admit that it did get me out of strife a couple of times. I say forget this crap about curfews and so on, driver education/training should be manditory and if people cant display basic accident prevension skills then they shouldnt be on the roads.

Well, just got home from my mates cafe and after a lengthy discussion with him about this topic, he feels that this law may potentially kill his business. I think I mentioned here earlier, 8 out of 10 people that walk into his cafe are smokers. If he has to ban smoking, he will loose alot of his customers. Turb06, Ive said it before and I say it again, I totally agree and respect no smoking indoors, as you have a right to sit in a smoke free environment, but for some reason, whether it be because your too stubborn headed to understand, or you dont want to understand, smokers should still have the right to enjoy a night out with their friends and light up a smoke, just as you have the right to enjoy a night out with your friends. You guys may not agree with smoking, you guys may not like smoking, but for f*&k sake, im sure there are things you do that annoy other people too. Lets all put up a stink about everybodies annoying habbits. I understand that the majority of people dont smoke and that they find it "gross", and at the same time I know there are people who are complete "assholes" and blow smoke toward non smokers. I guess it comes down to the fact that a small minority have spoiled it for a minority as it is. I dont think my comments are irrational, infact, I think my comments are fair. If anything, turb06, id say your comments are irrational. You obviously arnt taking into consideration other people. Your only thinking about yourself and your own wishes. Ive said it before and ill say it again, ill go into a cafe and pic a seat outside where there are other people smoking. I try my hardest not to sit next to non smokers even if it is outdoors. Furthermore, if the only seat is next to non smokers, I make sure not to blow smoke in their direction, and keep my cigarette in a position where the smoke goes the other way. After going to so much effort to satisfy the needs of people like yourself, why should it get thrown back at my face, why can I no longer enjoy a pizza and smoke whilst chilling out with mates. Im not asking you to agree with smoking, all im saying is that perhaps you should show a little consideration toward people like myself who try hard to keep smoke away from people like you. I can see you saying "why should I show consideration" and hitting me with more of your "sarcasm" but mate, I dont think what I have said in this post is at all unfair. My aim here isnt to personally attack any member of this forum, nor to start an argument with people, im just unable to comprehend why some of you are so eager and willing to take away the rights of a minority that are doing more harm to themselves then anything else. Anyhow, enough from me, Dean

Well that won't happen as long as we live in a democracy. I suggest that if you are unhappy living in our democratic society where the majority will prevails then YOU should move elsewhere and take your smoking habit with you. The thing is WE DID KICK UP A STINK ABOUT IT - the govt. listened, and we got our way. You are now a social outcast if you are a smoker, and the majority of us just don't want you near us. Power in numbers eh? But I have never said that there should be NO place for smokers. I do accept that you smoke and I'm happy that some provision should be made to allow you to partake of your (as misguided as it may be) enjoyment of a *beep*. In an environment where only your own ilk are effected. No comment on this, I dont think this is a topic worth getting personal about. Some of you guy are like brick walls, no reasoning !
