Def. waste gate. Even plumbed back in, it has a very distinct chattering sound when you leg go of gas. Perth police are on an absolute war path. When it comes to modified cars. In my GTR I used to get pulled over constantly. One of the reasons I sold it.

I think you're thinking of compressor surge aka dose

May need to start a new topic. Does anyone know if there are benefits to fitting cams to these engines? I know I am not chasing mega power but are there gains to be had. Better response, more hp. I can't seem to find much info.

also, are atomic camshafts a dro in or do they require huge mods to the head to be done first.

Cams are unnecessary for these engines unless you want to push over 600rwkW (approx 1000hp) and even then it's probably not necessary

The factory VCT is a wonderful product for evening out the torque curve, even with a large-ish turbo.

Some camshafts are drop-in, some are not, but you'll probably want to have a tune done to suit them (will cost more and take more time) if you do go down the pathway of different cams.

I chose to go cams, because I could, and I wanted something utterly stupid and plain silly.

cost for parts went up bigtime, even with a big discount, not including labour for machining / headwork, nor extra tuning time to cater for cams.

- on the back account gains

+ on the internet cred points and fanfare

+ on cool parts

havent got them installed yet, bottom end is still getting built etc.
the engine is a whole new setup, so I wont have anything to compare it too
old: stock BA F6 engine with T51 turbo, 511rwkw
new: build FG engine with PT6870 turbo, cams etc .... who knows ;)

it looks cool, sounds cool, has that oldschool appeal.
but new turbos are so much better in efficiency. the new ones cost a bit more, but that amount seems like nothing in the scheme of things when you are chasing more power
