Other news is my whip that's been back on the rd less than 24 hours developed not 1 but 2 coolant leaks! Fml!!!!!!

GREAT NEWS! I don't have to drive the whip around much longer! the beer can is holding up but there are other plans a foot....

So here's what I've done to my 2004 Focus...... bla bla bla lba akdsfgjahdgfigfgjdlafjgdgfah Actually, lets face it, I treat that thing like a rent-a-car, who gives a rite f*ck. It starts & runs (for now)

I also try to be fair & honest as much as my ego allows so you'll only hear me say this quick

Iwaswrongaboutthis

lso, another great reason to stick with a stock battery- you can buy a 520cca battery as a stock replacement but the relocation kit (yeah a superior battery by design anyway) only has about 440cca or something

These little batteries are incredible. No drama getting the starter to crank or the fuse box the correct voltage. In talking to my former FPV contact and also a mate about wiring, we've doubled up on the battery positive and this thing starts so bloody strong I can't believe it. Completely wrong about it. Infact my mate put it on his tester and it came back and said it had a potential 1450CCA! Just absolutely staggering. Side note to this - The young kid that has assisted with the electrical work is going out on his own after working for a brand name auto shop and doing after hours work in his spare time. I've known the family for more than 10 years and he is from good stock. He's about to go out on his own and do this as a living, hence getting his assistance with this. With other things I do, I try to engage young people to get their skills up and to help get them to where they want to be in life. In a few weeks I hope this young fella will be doing what he really wants to do, for himself, and I'll be happy for him. As for other things I do, I'm part of a youth charity group (hence the relay baton, see the final vid below), and I plan to give a few L platers a drive (on a very limited tune!) on their birthday's as a present after their dad's bring them back from the RTO/VicToads. I've met a lot of young kids from my karting experience and I try and look after them through inspecting their equipment and gear. In doing that and talking to the families, I trust (some) of the kids to go for a short drive around town as a thank you to the families.

For those that have kept abreast of some other posts, the turbo was making some god dam bad noises but the below video seems to have cleared that up after I took all the loose tools out of the intake pipework :P

https://youtu.be/xh_JTEeRjB4

But the turbo is definitely in need of attention. It's leaking oil through the rear housing and its also a little gruff when the engine is shutdown.

Big news at the moment is that we're back driving again! Nizpro stage 2 kit for now and we'll see what issues crop up. I'm really not happy with how the cold side pipework has fit up and there are issues with little things as well. But once again, driving and no fault codes. I'll be driving it for the next week or so and double checking some parts for wear and rub which I'm not happy about too.

Just had a good read of your journey, interesting to see your efforts with the FG crossover. I share your "vision" and as one of the others said above, do you think this could work with an FG plenum? Did the crossover pipe clear the bonnet ok or was it too high too? I have it running around in my head - BF exhaust manifold and turbo, FG intake muffler delete pipe, FG crossover and flex pipe running above the FG plenum - do you think this would clear without having to reshape plastic pipe work? Then run the airbox as per your original plan.

Did you end up going turbo side in the end? Keen to hear your thoughts, my main reason to do this would be to keep it quiet. I'm sure you could sell the Nizpro plenum easy if you really wanted to give it another crack.

Vision can also be confused with drug induced psychosis. The main goal as you read was to leave the battery in the stock location to save mucking with wires. The next goal was to have a good flowing intake from the left, that would stop some of the noise.

Few main issues that can be overcome for the most part;

The rocker cover doesn't suit a x-pipe, even though the B series has the scollop in it for the tb so you need to position it roughly and bridge out to it with some new brackets.

I think the niz intake looks horn so I wanted to keep that. With the softer part of the pipe, I had to squash it and it still rubbed on the bonnet lining a tad.

Now this one has had me scratching my head a bit, the pipework from under the headlight is so large you can bearly get the headlight be in location. And I'll be buggered if I can figure out how to get the parker light to go back in. I've not heard of anyone having issues like this so I assume it's a known problem. The best thread I saw about it was where a fella was welding a bit of halved pipe in under the light to make more space. Currently, this arrangement would be considered a massive fail in the automotive design world. It is really pinched under there.

The idea of using an FG plenum is interesting, but there would still be pipework needing to make some abrupt bends to get home. I believe nizpro are working slowly on a new higher volume FG plenum? that has the tb closer to the headlight, much like an EB? This still probably wouldn't help as you've got to have airflow to fill the filter, and box the thing up so you're getting super cramped for space. You'd want to use a muff delete too as part of my plan was to use it to shut the whine up. Didn't work as was a bit dangerous with it scratching at the back of the PS res. Pin hole leak there and you've got a fire on your hands.

As for some of my initial fears, those sealed batteries have epic CCA output. Like massive. I was worried about dropping voltage over the longer leads and having to dick around with fuse box stuff. Really it wasn't that bad, and as I say, it's got epic output.

The other major concern was noise. I DID NOT want this thing whirring and howling when I was just driving normal. Everyone that has ever been for a drive has always commented how comfortable & quiet it is. And I'm pleased to say that is still the case. The billet plum back is located really close to the tb adapter and I was hoping the longer run out of it would keep the venting noise down a tad. People would swear it was an atmo unit it can still be heard that clearly. And when you stomp on it, she does spool a bit, which I can suffer for the most part. Gut feel is that if I had a gtx, the spooly noise would be more noticeable at lower revs, ie around town stuff, which would bug the hell out of me. I'm thinking some of that (regardless of turbo) could be tuned out with a bit of effort on the boost map/waste gate control. This would then most likely be at the cost of drivability etc etc

Other things to consider, a few brands do the under battery intake, which I hate with a passion. There are also kits out there that use stock-ish routes with bigger coolers.

Soooo, yeah I think it can still be done, I think. The next steps for me will be a gtx I think if the stock cartridge fails? The other will be a gearbox build, but I'm quietly pleased with how it's holding what it's given. It's definitely not the happiest box, but it works ok for now. Does that kinda answer the question?

I think that does sum it up yeah thanks. Overall probably possible, but maybe more work than it's worth by the sound of it. No more drugs while working on the car :P

It sounds like you are pretty happy with the battery relo & turbo side airbox? I'm running an under battery intake at the moment, and yeah not a fan of it at all. Gets the job done, but wssshhhiiissshh heaps when on say 1/2 to 3/4 throttle. So if you want to give it a little to get ahead of traffic without booting it, everyone knows your car is modded and sounds a bit stupid in my opinion. I really want to make power but more importantly shut that thing up.

Don't be too soft on your turbo - makes for a great excuse when it gives up to get that gtx core put in :)

Yeah, not real keen on having the thing sh*t itself & take out an engine though. That said, I'd like to buy a block and build something soon just for the experience.

Re your filter, if it were me, I'd f*ck it off quick smart. Have a look at Phils f6 thread. When I took that thing off (no fault of Phils) it was trashed. I've not seen a filter so gummed up.

If you stick with the standard b series log manifold, you'll have to remove the muffler from the intake arrangement at a minimum, which is maybe one of the things that will assist the most with noise. So there's another thing to chuck in to the changes. I think a bit more length & bends will shut it up a tad but if I'm using a more than half throttle, I'm probably not worrying about the noise the engines making. I am a little skeptical re lining the inside of the right side airbox's too with foam. I used to work with vacuum trucks and one of the biggest issues we had was noise. Complex issue to deal with. In this case, some thing in a sound proof box with one side missing (ie, an area for air to get in) will allow noise to get out. So it might drop the noise output 1db, which is about f*ck all. The source of the noise, the compressor wheel, is still making vorticies in the intake and thus the howl. So with the convoluted cross sectional area change of the B series arrangement, and the muffler design (which isn't as restrictive as some people say it is) on an F series, ford have managed to make a very NVH happy vehicle.

Word to the wise, find a battery relocal kit on eBay or gumtree second hand. They are cheaper and those sealed batteries have some ridiculous warranty on them. Re an intake, I like the nizpro unit. It has a second bend in it which probably helps with the noise. Others probably only have the one sweeping bend. Only draw back to the nizpro setup that I REALLY don't like is the lack of ports on both the Tb adapter and the intake for a 25mm or 32mm plumb back. They've probably got reasons for not doing this but whatever they are, I'd far prefer to have a plumb back in there.

Now that looks mint...I like the f6 badge on the airbox only coz it is an f6. But my ocd wants it to be parallel to the left edge lol..but it looks like it wont fit there?

Yeah that's right. I tried a few spots but the nizpro fibre glass has that fold in it. Would have been nice to line it up or have an inlay I agree.

I'm not a fan of engine bay porn, but if there's one things I hate more, it's dumb ass chrome pipe & blue silicon hose all over the place. I will be swapping the cooler bottle with a newer one I'll give a rinse out and wipe down a few other things. Thing I like the most is the fact there's nothing too ott there. I would like to put the nizpro coil over on, but that will take some time as the after market coils don't like it. In fact, I'm pretty sure I now know why people say they "aren't as good as stock and more prone to fail" (even though there's a thread on here every week about dead or dying stock coils and/or spark breakdown etc etc) but I'm a little skint for time to muck with that right now
