Hi All,

I have a BF MkII Xr6 ute sitting in the driveway on a "overnight testdrive". I have to decide if I want to buy it tomorrow.

Noticed that after the engine warms up, there is a ticking/rattle type noise . The missus says "its like a marble rattling around or something" Me, sounds like perhaps something near the timing chain. Maybe its normal.. Havent had a car like it, currently have a turbo diesel surf... lol

Only seems to do it when its sitting idling for a period of time. Go for a drive and come back, noise seems to be gone.. .Although I didn't let it sit idle again for ages to see if it happened again.

Is this something to be concerned about?

Does also have the diff clink issue which seems to be common.

My 09 fg and a bf xr6t I drove both had a slight tick which was a mixture of injectors and rocker gear which is completely normal.

Marbels though... that's another story.

Could be idle pulley - its common for its bearings to rattle. Parts to replace it about $25 excluding labour. Have a listen with hood up to see if it is the idle pulley. Happened to me in my BA T. It's just an aging thing- they wear out.

Its probably the camshaft actuator linear retraction alignment roller bearing sleeve bush locking clip,

Quite normal.

I'm gonna go with...missing rod (and associated injector) for $500 please!

Wait make that 2 rods.

Probably best to listen to the bloke below me, he holds the world record for number of silver cars in one photo of the house :)

id say idle pulley 2ould be a good guess as there very common. Mine (ba xr6t) made no noise but when I decided to replace them (as I never knew if there were ever replaced) I dicovered that one was seized....I have no idea how it still spun the belt...wtf?

I replaced with plastic but 9 months later and there not the best again so I brought some nice metal ones....bloddy nice compared to others. with the heat these engins make replace with the metal ones!

Thanks Guys

I ended up driving it around to a mates, it looks like its something to do with the powersteering pump.

Dont really notice it till the car sits there idling for awhile, turn the wheel and it makes that rattle noise.
