04/04/13 11:04 PM04/04/13 11:04 PM #1 Ok, so the wife comes to me and tells me we're buying a caravan and my car has to tow it. It will be no longer than 14 foot so under 1200kgs hopefully.I'm not crazy about the idea but I say to her the only way I can achieve this is with full suspension upgrade and potentially some power mods.Car is a 2007 BFII Typhoon (rspec).A friend has suggested these Pedders SportsRyder Supercar coilovers for my car - http://www.pedders.com.au/products/114I'm just after feedback. 04/04/13 11:10 PM04/04/13 11:10 PM #2 I suggest trading in for 4wheel drive capable of towing in comfort....or trading wife....or just save the money you would spend a lane hogger and motel it.
05/04/13 12:27 AM05/04/13 12:27 AM #3 ^^^ this ^^^Next up no way are coil overs a good option for HD applications like towing vans Air shocks and hd springs at a min Rspecs just aren't designed for this job !!
05/04/13 12:30 AM05/04/13 12:30 AM #4 Toad's tows his boat with Pedders XA's in his BA's, although his boat does weigh about as much as Dag's lunch.
05/04/13 01:03 AM05/04/13 01:03 AM #6 The supercar coilovers are about 7 grand a lot of money to spend on a tow car You would only need the XA coilovers for about 2 grand
05/04/13 01:10 AM05/04/13 01:10 AM #7 Why not just HD springs with polybags (I think that's what they're called) in the rear? And complete with some good shocks
05/04/13 01:12 AM05/04/13 01:12 AM #8 Not a great deal of room for a set of polyairs in the bag end of our cars
06/04/13 12:11 AM06/04/13 12:11 AM #9 Whatever you do don't forget the carbon brake upgrade. Towing a beast like that requires the ultimate in stopping power. Also, you might need to go to a water to air IC for the heavy duty work. Tell your wife. I have a BA-T fitted with Bilsteins that tows a lightweight boat trailer. The trailer has a fully independent coil spring suspension, of course. Whilst it It tows great and appears to do a fine job in even complex road conditions, a set of Penske regressive (yes regressive not digressive) shocks for the car and the trailer would be even better... much better. Sadly, Penske do not make shocks in 316 stainless...
06/04/13 01:04 PM06/04/13 01:04 PM #10 HD Springs and a load leveling kit on the van should be ok. 1200kgs is not that much if setup right. Edited 06/04/13 01:16 PM06/04/13 01:16 PM by Septimus
