After reading so many posts about people racing and then commenting that "if they had a better reaction time that their car would run a quicker number" I just had to post that yes you can lose a race by having a bad reaction time but your ET is going to be the same whether you have a .400 light or a 4.00 light.

Your time does not start until you break the timing beam.

The reaction time takes into account how long it takes you to break the timing light from either when the tree light goes green or the last amber depending on how your track does it. Most tracks used to start the timer from the last amber light which came on .400 of a second before the green would light up, which is why a .400 reaction time was considered a perfect light, I believe and it may be different now that when WSID opened they were starting from when the green light lit up and considering a .000 reaction time as a perfect light.

If you want to race you need to know how your car reacts and how quick you yourself react to the lights, anybody with any car with enough practice can cut near perfect lights and you can win a race against a faster car if you get out of the hole quicker than them. In a heads up race the win is given to the car that crosses the line first no matter who has a quicker et or faster mph.
