From what I read you can not purchase the tuning software unless you have a dyno workshop front etc etc etc. Does this also apply to the logging software, the reason I ask is vcm suite falls short because it can not log knock.

The software to tune is not available for the general public to purchase you need to have a shop front and a dyno to. I borrow my mates Advantage III to get it running and sorted before I put it on the dyno. The data logging software is free to download and avalable to anyone. It's on the SCT website and its called livelink. If you can't find it just yell out and I'll shoot you the link..

Now to start looking at the 4bar map sensor..

Thanks for the responses, I found it and downloaded it I have couple of questions

1. Obviously I need hardware to log what are the options? buy a second hand SCT?
   
2. If I borrow a hand controller off a mate and use it for logging will it have any adverse effect on the borrowed hand contoller when connected to the owners vehicle again?
   
3. Is there a log file available anywhere so I can load it and have a look at a log?
   

Obviously what I want to do is log with this software (or any other available) and tune with VCM suite.

If you have a BA only the xcal2 will log the ford specific parameters...so you will definately need one of these. With the latest version of Livelink, Gen II v1, I can't get the xcal2 to log a BA so you may need to stick to Gen I, v 6.5. What you can do though is open the log you have taken using 6.5 in Gen II to view histograms.

You can borrow a mates xcal and there will be no adverse affects. SCT and HP use different units so that may be a problem for you. The tuning tables in SCT AdvantageIII correspond nicely to the output in livelink. A good example is throttle position. HP uses % and SCT uses AD counts.

But yeah livelink is the only way to log these cars for tuning purposes.

Thanks for the reply the vehicle I have is an FG, just spoke to my mate he has told me his SCT is locked to his vehicle (BF) consequently it will not log my vehicle is this correct?

Just trying to get my head around what can and can not be done with other hardware and software as the suppliers/developers go to a great deal of effort to lock you out from deviating from what they intended the procedure to be.

Tune component is locked, logging isn't. Log away.

Either I am doing something wrong or that livelink is not that good when it comes to datalogging. Out of all the PIDs it locates I find that it will only datalog basic stuff like RPM, Spark, TPS for example. I tried to datalog some stuff from the torque converter control list and it gives nothing. I would say 90% of the PIDs it comes up with it wont log any data.

Whereas I think I saw a VCM datalog of torque converter log data and it datalogged the parameters I was looking for.

Once VCM gets the ZF stuff sorted I will purchase it
