how is racing that fair against Expensive Daewoo and ford?

that's the whole reason the gtr got kicked out in the first place back in the 90's!

it has to be a similar 4 door production car that has a v8.

"Production car that has a V8". Whats production about a V8 supercar. The whole series is boring. Its about time they started driving cars that we can actually buy.

Altima or Maxima.

Maybe a pathfinder or a patrol , both of those are V8 production cars.

But would handle like dogs balls and I think they have to be a sedan?

"Production" is an easy way of putting it.

All they need is a production chassis, the engine, so long as it's a V8 can be whatever they like, custom built for it if they want to (I believe the Jaguar that won in the late 90's was a custom built V12? or it was the Volvo with the custom stand alone V8 or something can't quite remember)

...until it goes through the homogenisation process and ends up being identical except for the shell.

It's great that they are trying something new, but get rid of some of the mandated componentry and let teams do their own thing to turn it back in to a motorsport and not a slot-car race farkin.

Yep, and that's what the 'car of the future' is all about unfortunately. It isn't that far away from Nascar where they put the bloody template over the body - all identical.

Like the idea of others coming in though, just don't think controlled everything is the way to go.

I like it. It's about time these things became proper race cars.

There's already production car racing if you're into watching that.

You can't really complain about V8 Supercars just because it's not the type of racing you want. That's like complaining that your Jim Beam isn't Jack Daniels.

It's just a tactic which allows ford and Expensive Daewoo to be at an advantage by pretty much not allowing anyone else to produce anything better than their cars..

Manufacturers like Nissan have proven recently (Iast 20 years) to put out better track vehicles, and that would end Horden's reign in the V8 Supercars should an open rule system be inplace.

It's a bit sad really, they should bring back the different class races, it failed a while ago as no-one wanted to go to them, but times'a changing and have changed. If there was a turbo class or something along those lines I think these days you'd get quite a crowd to them.
