  • Thanks Guys :sungum: The process started by stripping back a good BA N/A head I had from an engine I bought some years ago, I then had gasket surface and seats machined, and all valves vacuum checked

  • Not chasing anything too extreme, Im not interested in building a dyno queen, my car used most weekends cruising and regular test and tunes, not even interested in actually competing really, I prefer

  • OK finally time to report some progress.... Yes the bolts did finally turn up, and the engine could be completed. Monday this week was the day to start the 'heart transplant' on my girl, and as expect

How have you been running it in? Is it up for its first oil change?

A few good squirts where possible mixed with just normal city and country driving (trying to hang on to my points on a double demerit point holiday season).

I plan to change oil and filter to synthetic at about 2500k's (currently running Castrol Magnatec) and she's going into see Simon from XFT on Friday 21st, for new tune and editing of the ZF transmission.

Ahh so the initial tune would have been considered "safe" for running in I guess.

*Sigh* I miss the T!

One day...

Have you discussed ZF tune in depth with Simon yet? I need to know if we can have a not so harsh shift in manual mode at low speeds - if it's worth it to be tuned or not for me. Felt great in Grug's when under decent throttle and shifting, but watch out for wheelspin 1-2 and 2-3. Maybe 3-4 depending on your power levels and tyres! :)

No I have not discussed the finer details with Simon yet, other than to express that I did not want the harsh shifting which was unavoidable in the 4 speed to get it to hold, and most of the reason for the change to the ZF.

I will be spending the time to discuss this with Simon while he does the tuning.

I may benefit from your experiences then! Sounds similar to what I want. Haven't had a chance to chat to Simon about it but my tune will be a way off now with the land purchase anyway :)

Still running quiet as a mouse, found that oil choice is important though, and thinner is better!!

Currently running 10w30 Nulon, first choice was Penrite 15w50 but this did result in very slight occasional rattle at idle

0-40 in winter 5-50 in summer for me. 30 weight might be a little light on a really hot day with heavy engine loads. But only you know your engine clearances.

Show us all how quiet on the Feb cruise :)
